When you see how many people in how many countries are revolting against corruption and government abuse, you better start realizing that it is not just about Hong Kong. Whether that's in Hong Kong, in Iran, in Iraq, in Chile, in Bolivia, in Lebanon, in Ecuador, or in any city protesting against climate change, people are fed up with crushing inequality and government inaction destroying both their lives and their future.

@Akie @Alex Einz @BurningBush @Loki520 There will be a special place in hell waiting for you and other Beijing regime supporters. If you support that kind of inequality and the destruction of a better future, you're just a bunch of psychopaths. Your moral compasses are so screwed that you wouldn't find your way home.

Russia has the Internet Research Agency.

Israel has Hasbara.

China has the 50 Cent Party.

Please remember, because of its abuse of big data and surveillance technologies, the Chinese govt. is a danger to civilization. Obviously, the protesters should not be attacking people who disagree, but let's get some perspective involved - in Xi's China nobody can disagree. Those who dare to disagree face severe consequences - that's what the extradition law would have brought over to Hong Kong.

The Beijing supporters can still rally in Hong Kong, they can still post things online (as offensive as they are), and have access to media. All this will be denied everyone else if the democracy protests fail.

Akie:

WilliB, which international law says that if you support Peking regime, you become a terrorist

I was referring to your own logic. The Peking regime acts like a terrorist, you support the Peking regime, hence (according to your own claim) you are a terrorist. You made the claim, live with it.

sf2k:

See all the Trump supporters here also supporting Beijing and not HK freedom

Huh? Who are you talking about?

Colonialists and terrorists share common values: violence, destructive, and take other's properties.

Universities are properties of HK people, and can't become sanctuary for terrorists, occupied or not.

Two walked about with bows and quivers of arrows, while many stared at their smartphones.

OK, one should not laugh about the HK situation, but I had to at this sentence. Bows, arrows, and smartphones.... talk about mixing different time periods

lock the UNI down, nobody leaves unless in handcuffs, no food in, cut off water and block all cell communication ,the whole game will be done very fast.

Herr Einz, cutting and pasting from Mein Kampf again?

From leaked documents we now have proof of the cruelty and utter ruthlessness of the Xi Jinping regime which has for months been trying to stamp on the face of HK with its Beijing jackboot. The courage of the young people resisting body and soul the imposition of Chinese-style fascism will never be forgotten in the annals of history. In contrast, what a cowardly lot are the so-called "international community" who don't have the cojones to issue Xi and his henchmen a one-way ticket to the Hague.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Its clear you are a CCP supporter. These students are heroes, the free world supports their actions 100 %.

By the free world do you mean the likes of people posting on JT? Nobody will have their backs if this turns into a full-scale bloodbath/incarcerations. That’s what makes me truly take my hat off to these people.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

the protesters correct label is violent thugs and cia sponsored instigators.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Respect to the freedom fighters of HK. Hit these violent police thugs with anything you have, and dont stop. The HK police are simply agents for Communist China. They despise freedom.

Hypocrisy at a shameless level. Since you have expressed multiple times on this forum a strong support for the LDP party, I don't think that you are the best one to say that. Japan similarly to China will never tolerate this kind of contestation in its society for the sake of protecting the public order as they call it. So the Japanese have zero legitimacy to give lessons of democracy and freedom to the rest of the world given that they barely have them in their own country.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Anti-government protesters have barricaded themselves inside Hong Kong Polytechnic University for days.

I strongly disagree with your label of the protesters as "anti-government." They very much believe in government, but one that is a democracy, like they had for many years until the UK handed them over to China without any input from them.

why is the campus so important? Apparently, “Hong Kong’s internet center which handles 99 percent of the city’s internet traffic is located inside the CUHK campus.”

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I wish Japan would extend support to the HK protestors. Free HK! Communist China must end

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Again and again, easy resolution, have an election for Hong Kong top officials, China abide by the agreement signed one party 2 system. Guns vs bow and arrows was tried in the US a very long time ago, it was tried in Japan during the Samurai era and it failed too. A resolution with a mediator should be formed to bring all parties to the table. So far the protestors are being shown the door vs a bargaining table.

In this day and age, with holding freedom (like China does) is a time bomb, just look at history, time and time again this kind of thing has happened and sooner or later the people react

China calls itself a developed country, the number 2 economy but treats its people like little children. The net consoring (for example) is so childish

6 ( +7 / -1 )

HK police did good job to protect HK people and HK property.

100% absolute support without any hesitation.

Correction: SOME of the people and property. You know... the people and the property that fell into lockstep.

You are growing up with culture of lies, aren't you ?

If HK govt are not supported by the people, how could she survive from the terrorist attack since the end of Colonial terrorist occupation ?

Are you kidding?? YOU speak of terrorist occupation meanwhile China STILL occupies Tibet,East Turkestan,Northern Mongolia and keeps territorial claims all over Asia?

The Chinese arrogance and stubbornest is legendary.

Therefore good old Europe, north America,Japan and all the democratic forces in the world must stand united against these communist threads.

Honk Kong people deserve their freedom of press and expression,China is a dictatorship.

As simple as that.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

The people of Hong Kong have freedom.

They had freedom. The entire HK is now under CCP martial law. There is no freedom now, and everyones identity and movement is being tracked. That is why these freedom fighters MUST defeat the police by any means available, to get that freedom back.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

> Anyway, I'll say it again - this situation cannot afford to be another Tianenmen Square

this situation will be much worse than Tiananmen, the youth of Hong Kong clearly knows what they are fighting for. Mainland China knows nothing if freedom. The people of Hong Kong have freedom. That cannot be taken away. They are not afraid.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

It has not escalated to a boiling point but In the end china will do whatever it takes to remain in power, not limited to but including another tienmen square. The west may view it as a massacre but china simply does not care.

I don't know whether reporting quality is poor due to the intensity of the fight, but social media is reporting police have now sealed off the area, blocked all roads in/out.

Now, if they had done this (and waited out the protesters) 'BEFORE' they stormed the campus, surely the situation wouldn't have got out of control. The protesters would have simply gave themselves up from thirst and hunger after a week of waiting?

So the question is, did Lam forced the police to storm the campus? It appears like police know sealing off was an option, why did tgey storm the campus then seal off? Seems counter intuitve if you want to avoid confrontation.

commanteer said "Concentration camps for the men and boys, communist party men sent to sleep with their wives"

Are you a wife, or a husband ? As long as you are a human, you wouldn't believe it without a court due process, would you ? unless you are stupid, or grow up with lies.

-21 ( +1 / -22 )

The regime took 30 years to erase it from memory and history and one hopes they have learned something from that horrible massacre on innocent people.

Yes, they have learned to cover it up better. Look at the Uyghurs. Concentration camps for the men and boys, communist party men sent to sleep with their wives.

The problem is that it's harder for China to control the narrative and restrict the internet in Hong Kong. If this were in mainland China, it would already be over and the global supply of transplant organs would be flooded.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

God bless HK

@Akie,

You are growing up with culture of lies, aren't you ?

That would be the PRC under the totalitarian control of the CCP. Nothing but lies.

Tell me, what have I lied about?? What have I said that makes you say that I grew up with culture of lies???

If HK govt are not supported by the people, how could she survive from the terrorist attack since the end of Colonial terrorist occupation ?

I have NO idea what you mean by this. None at all.

No terrorists can stop HK's progress, online or on streets.

By your definition, Mao and the other leaders of the revolution in China in 1949 were terrorists??

So, answer me this. Simple question. Was Mao a terrorist???

12 ( +13 / -1 )

To all the Hong Kong frontline police officers: Good Job! Your heroic actions were written in Hong Kong history books for future generations to admire and follow! The Hong Kong polytechnic Institute is nothing a Stalingrad stronghold but has been seiged as  being "A cache of mobs and criminal snakes"! These violent young people will wet themselves in their blood!

-15 ( +1 / -16 )

Chinese territory can't become a base of terrorists.

-21 ( +1 / -22 )

let send good energy to HK freedom fighters!

9 ( +11 / -2 )

I wonder why such a confusing timeline was chosen for this story.

First you get a lot of details about the police reaction to the violence, then a brief mention of the violence, followed by a lot of details about the police reaction to the previous violence, then the criticism that unarmed Chinese soldiers tried to help the ordinary Hong Kongers clean up the mess the protesters made, then the violence directed at the soldiers and ordinary people is briefly mentioned.

Oh, wait, I see, if you want to make the police look like the violent thugs, you have to skip around in time that way, rather than go linearly in one (either one, but only one) direction.

How long before we start seeing these 'reports' done Israeli style, where the clock always starts a second before the prodemocracy forces fire, or a second after the Israeli regime fire stops, so the 'good guys' (The regime that denies residency and voting rights to half its legal population, and doesn't bother with an extradition agreement, but rather just kidnaps or bombs those who it can't imprison, sometimes after a show trial, sometimes not bothering with even that) are the victims.

Strangerland said "CPP leadership owns Lam. She's a puppet who only repeats what they tell her to say."

Freedom of expression again ?

Lam is a Chinese, she works for the Chinese, that is privilege, not a puppet.

If you are trying to find a puppet, go to Taiwan.

-22 ( +1 / -23 )

Yeah, I'm all for student activism, it's kinda a part of growing up.

But the catapult-launched gasoline bomb thing takes it just a little bit too far.

Enjoy your stint in prison.

Its clear you are a CCP supporter. These students are heroes, the free world supports their actions 100 %.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Great HK people can't be intimated.

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

HK is strong, HK govt is strong, HK people are strong, HK police are strong.

HK is strong. Lam is weak. HK people are strong. HK leadership is weak. CPP leadership owns Lam. She's a puppet who only repeats what they tell her to say.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

HK is strong, HK govt is strong, HK people are strong, HK police are strong.

No terrorists can stop HK's progress, online or on streets.

-21 ( +1 / -22 )

Do whatever it takes to eliminate terrorism.

That's why people are standing up to Beijing, on the streets or online.

17 ( +18 / -1 )

If HK govt are not supported by the people, how could she survive from the terrorist attack since the end of Colonial terrorist occupation ?

The terrorist attack is being done gradually, as I pointed out, with the heavy police tactics and the online Beijing support network.

Not just in HK but across the world where HK students are being intimidated by pro-Beijing students in campuses where both groups attend.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

If HK govt are not supported by the people, how could she survive from the terrorist attack since the end of Colonial terrorist occupation ?

That's a non-sequitur. Your conclusion cannot logically be made from your statement.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Do whatever it takes to eliminate terrorism. UN on your side, international laws are your basis, peace loving people support you 100%.

-20 ( +2 / -22 )

The HK police are simply agents for Communist China. They despise freedom.

They despise being challenged. Just one clarification, China is communist in name only. It is far, far removed from the ideology.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

All a bit too Beijing for my liking.

Anyway, I'll say it again - this situation cannot afford to be another Tianenmen Square. The regime took 30 years to erase it from memory and history and one hopes they have learned something from that horrible massacre on innocent people.

I believe the regime tactics will remain using brutal police, online support, smearing protesters and the deployment of agent provocateurs resulting in more deaths. That is how they will quash dissent.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

And the jackboot thugs of the HK government (aka the "police") are at work again. They are doing the dirty work of Beijing. And the HK government, a government that cares not one whit about the people of HK. It only cares about pleasing the rulers in Beijing. Period.

Those that defend the police and suggest that the people of HK should stick to peaceful demonstrations to fight for change are either supporters of the Beijing government or are naive in the extreme.

The Beijing government demands total control and will brook no dissent. I mean, they are demanding that Australian politicians "repent" for what they have said!!! They are totalitarians and that is what they plan for HK. Make no mistake

And when people are ruled by a government that they cannot choose, they have no ultimate ability to make change happen peacefully if the government chooses to ignore them.

And that is EXACTLY the case in Hong Kong. The people have absolutely no ability to truly choose those that govern them.

Legco elections are a complete sham, as the system is set up to ensure that the pro-Beijing forces are always in control. Even for those seats that can be contested, the government can disqualify candidates based on any number of murky reasons.

The CE is not elected by the people. Any candidate for CE must be approved by Beijing. So, basically, any CE is just going to be a different variation of a Beijing puppet.

So, the government is NOT accountable to the people and, in fact, the only entity it is truly accountable to are the rulers in Beijing.

So, riddle me this. How do the people MAKE the HK government enact policies the people want?? Through holding hands and singing "Give Peace A Chance"???

The proposed Extradition Law was only shelved after massive protests / marches and even then, it was just shelved, not withdrawn. Only after further protests, which actually were not entirely peaceful, was the law finally withdrawn.

But that was it. Nothing more. The HK government refuses to act on any other changes. And they don't have to. Why?? Because the people can't vote them out.

So, again, riddle me this. How do the people MAKE the HK government enact policies the people want when the government is not chosen by the people???

Revolutions happen for a reason. In fact, that is EXACTLY why and how the current totalitarian regime in Beijing came to power. Through violent revolution.

You think Mao cared if a few people got killed in the process??
