That depends on whose point of view and during what time in history. Patriot wasn't a good word to the Crown or to Loyalists during the time of the American Revolution. It was synonymous with rebel and traitor. Of course, once the Patriots/Rebels won, the word was rebranded to mean the good guys. Had the war gone the other way, so would that connotation.

One has to wonder how many Hong Kong police officers are not on board with the new regime? One wonders how many rank and file Hong Kong police officers want no part of arresting people for expressing views they may themselves also hold, but now do so secretly? Some of their more senior officers might have started during British rule and are shaking their heads in dismay at how things have turned out but have to keep the lips zipped out of fear.

"Goosesteppin'" is the pay grade of those pathetic folk forced to make fools of themselves to feed their families. They're civilian police force, not military soldiers

The goose-stepping marching style, where uniformed officers kick straight-legged in a robotic manner, was first used by Prussian soldiers and has become a hallmark of authoritarian regimes including Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China.

HK Police now marching PLA style (bayonets fixed) but still carrying those Norinco (China Defense contractor) clones of U.S. M16 assault rifle and still wearing British style uniforms. - For a May 4, 2018 flag-raising ceremony, the Chinese Liaison Office requested 14 HK university and military-style, civic & community youth groups to abandon the British style of music & marching. ALL but 1 group rejected the ‘request’. Several of the civic groups have since/been disbanded.

At the end of the day, HK is a part of China. How strange voting was only allowed during the dying years of colonialism. As if that was going to make up for the days when locals (aka coolies) weren't even allowed to live on the peak on HK island.
