Wait. It's not 2047 yet. That was the British-China Agreement that HK would retain semi-autonomy until then. But...!

Another broken promise by the CCP. Quit doing business with them. Quit giving them prestigious world sports events. Quit letting them into economic trade pacts and agreements.

Sad that I didn't get the chance to visit Hong Kong before it was destroyed.

That's the Final Step. HK truly is gone, another Chinese province. And goose-stepping in the army is for dictatorships. 'Patriotic'? SMH. A sham. 'Patriotic' has been twisted in an Orwellian manner into something so ugly, defying the original definition. Just like 'communism'. Originally had a positive definition and positive roots and inspirations, now a farce.

I knew a couple of girls in college from HK. Now HK is gone gone gone.

All the places in the world who do the "goose step" are sad, totalitarian terror-states. Russia, North Korea, Communist China.

And now Hong Kong.

Goosestepping will give you an idea of who they model themselves on.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Scum leadership that destroys countless lives and claims moral superiority.

11 ( +16 / -5 )

good bye Hong Kong.

I'm sorry this happened to you

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

All very 1930 ish. Nationalism, secret police, persons being disappeared, genocide, land grabs.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Let's hope that it will never happen in Taiwan.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

There are not many things that could demonstrate so clearly the change of priorities and loyalty of the police in Hong Kong.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Still few years chance to enjoy HK. I'd say about 5 or 6 years within.

Really? At this rate, I would say sooner, I give it 2-3 at the most, but at any rate, HK as we know it is gone and will never come back. The Chinese lied about that as well.

Goose steppin' in the PRC.

A Debbie Harry song?

The force has "actively planned for the full rollout of Chinese-style foot drills in order to show patriotism and foster love for our motherland and Hong Kong", police told AFP in a statement Friday.

Patriotism, the virtue of the vicious and the weak-minded. So often 'patriots' claim to love their country but actually hate most of the people in it.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Well that didn't take long. And people wonder why Taiwan doesn't want anything to do with the so-call "One country, two systems" BS. @Mat ... Same. :(

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Brings a new twist to the Pythonesque "Now, today, we're going to do marching up and down the square!"

And very strange how patriotism is a good word in USA, but a dirty word when applied to China.

That depends on whose point of view and during what time in history. Patriot wasn't a good word to the Crown or to Loyalists during the time of the American Revolution. It was synonymous with rebel and traitor. Of course, once the Patriots/Rebels won, the word was rebranded to mean the good guys. Had the war gone the other way, so would that connotation.

One has to wonder how many Hong Kong police officers are not on board with the new regime? One wonders how many rank and file Hong Kong police officers want no part of arresting people for expressing views they may themselves also hold, but now do so secretly? Some of their more senior officers might have started during British rule and are shaking their heads in dismay at how things have turned out but have to keep the lips zipped out of fear.

"Goosesteppin'" is the pay grade of those pathetic folk forced to make fools of themselves to feed their families. Sadly, in all countries the military performs the role of a nasty, parasitical force to keep order while serving the selfish interests and security of ruling castes, but let's hope the CCP soon goosesteps into the dustbin of history.

Now they're working for the 'Clampdown' as The Clash put it.

And now Hong Kong.

Don't forget Nazi Germany, Falangist Spain, the fascist regime of Guatemala that slaughterd thousands of Mayans 'just so they wouldn't become Communist', Communist East Germany, others. A sure sign of an oppressive state.

I'm not sure how marching like a ludicrous robot helps the cause of patriotism. Don't these people realise just how moronic the goose-step is? I just laugh at these fools.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

OMG that's halarious Mickelicious lol

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Nothing like the rhythm of a good, old-fashioned goose-step to “inspire” some patriotism in a repressed people ?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

They look stupid.

They should also switch over their uniforms to the PRC style to complete the look.

It's been the same way with the ICE in America. During the trump regime, some ICE agents quit because they wanted nothing to do with the evil abusive racist policies of his his administration.

Why continue with the pretense? Why don't they just come forth and say it? Hong Kong is now part of Communist China. Sad but true.

They're civilian police force, not military soldiers

The goose-stepping marching style, where uniformed officers kick straight-legged in a robotic manner, was first used by Prussian soldiers and has become a hallmark of authoritarian regimes including Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China.

Something wrong with any institution that wants to be in the same association as those in the list

HK Police now marching PLA style (bayonets fixed) but still carrying those Norinco (China Defense contractor) clones of U.S. M16 assault rifle and still wearing British style uniforms. - For a May 4, 2018 flag-raising ceremony, the Chinese Liaison Office requested 14 HK university and military-style, civic & community youth groups to abandon the British style of music & marching. ALL but 1 group rejected the ‘request’. Several of the civic groups have since/been disbanded.

Goose-stepping is offensive. Am I the only person who sees this as NAZIs?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As long as it is anti China it is okay to ridicule HK,

Scum leadership that destroys countless lives and claims moral superiority.

But, do those same jack boots sound the same when they come in the middle-of-the-night ?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

At the end of the day, HK is a part of China. How strange voting was only allowed during the dying years of colonialism. As if that was going to make up for the days when locals (aka coolies) weren't even allowed to live on the peak on HK island.

And very strange how patriotism is a good word in USA, but a dirty word when applied to China.
