My question is when is the south going to secede from the Union and how can we expedite the process? The south is an anchor around the neck of the nation. All of the deep southern states are incredibly conservative; lift yourself up by your bootstrap types. They don't like to pay taxes so their taxes are pretty low but they also like things like roads, schools, museums and railway access. Because they don't like to pay taxes but still need money for these other things, they are forced to rely on welfare from the north. Don't let any southerner talk to you about individual responsibility or paying your own way because by virtue of living in the south, they are "welfare queens."

I can tell from your comment that you don't watch Fox. Cause in the hours and hours I've been watching that fine news organization, I don't remember anyone ever lamenting how whites are not in control. Commenting yes.

"So far, Bill O'Reilly is in the lead for the Controversial Election Day Rant Award with his bold statements on Fox News about how "the white establishment is now the minority." O'Reilly was trying to make a point about our country's changing demographics and what that means. But it's hard not to make that kind of thing sound terribly racist. In fact, O'Reilly's statements sound even worse when you put them in context. "Obama wins because it's not a traditional America anymore. The white establishment is the minority," he said."

"This is a shocking thing to hear during primetime television, but it is not entirely out of character for O'Reilly. Bill O'Reilly says racist things all the time. We made a list of the Fox News host's latest racist sound bytes:"

For O'Reilly, it's all about white America and black America. A quote from one of his shows:

"It's simple. White Americans fear government control. They don't want the feds telling them what to do and they don't want a bankrupt nation... Black America has a totally different view. For decades, African Americans have supported a bigger federal government... so it can impose social justice. The vast majority of blacks want money spent to level the playing field, to redistribute income from the white establishment to their precincts and to provide better education and healthcare at government (read: white) expense. So the African American voter generally loves what President Obama is doing."

(taken from the AtlanticWire) -- Tonight Wasn't the First Time Bill O'Reilly Worried About the Fate of the 'White Establishment'

In point of fact, if you turn to MSNBC you would have seen a great deal of leg tingling, and rejoicing over the election.

The commentators at MSNBC are not "pro-white" or "pro-black." They care about America, and would not make the kind of comments that O'Reilly made. It's the conservatives who keep harping about a "color-blind" society. O'Reilly proves that their words are just a sham.

When they talk strictly about fiscal discipline, I have no beef with them. When they start bringing out the posters with racial slurs against our president, they have crossed a line and I'll not be kind and tolerant in my speech when denouncing them.

Hmm, so then you have no problem with them at all right? I mean, because the only ones using racist and intolerant speech, were those who hated the Tea Party. Everything else was just a well orchestrated smear campaign. Contrast that with the 99% people, who went around smearing feces everywhere, raping, killing, and ahem, occupying.

It was only when a Democrat took office in the face of a deep economic crisis that they rose to arms. Fox News recent laments on how whites don't control things electoral anymore casts a light on what was really driving a lot of passion.

I can tell from your comment that you don't watch Fox. Cause in the hours and hours I've been watching that fine news organization, I don't remember anyone ever lamenting how whites are not in control. Commenting yes. But then as the people they have doing that are in fact paid commentators, whose job it is to analyze the election, this is understandable. In point of fact, if you turn to MSNBC you would have seen a great deal of leg tingling, and rejoicing over the election. I flipped between the stations on election night, and if you did the same, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Balancing the budget. Thats why people of both parties joined, why its so popular.

Oh, and by the way, I've never known any person who was genuinely passionate about government fiscal responsibility. Eight years of runaway spending under the previous administration was a real test of their values -- and they cheered Bush on just as loudly as anyone.

It was only when a Democrat took office in the face of a deep economic crisis that they rose to arms. Fox News recent laments on how whites don't control things electoral anymore casts a light on what was really driving a lot of passion.

Out of curiosity, which seats are you referring to ?

The dangerous wacko, Allen West's, and total idiot, Joe Walsh's -- to name but two, in addition to senate seats that Republicans could have won in Montana, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, North Dakota, and Virginia. A lot of good Tea Party darling Paul Ryan did the cause in Wisconsin. Gerrymandered districts is the only thing keeping some of these folks, like Bachmann, in Washington.

Whats really amusing about this comment, is that the Tea Party, when it comes down to it, is really only about one thing. Thats fiscal sanity. Balancing the budget.

Riiight. And the Tea Party held onto a single theme about as well as a leaky diaper. Smelled just as funny too.

Even while they continue to push their typical hate speech about anyone who dares disagree with them.

When they talk strictly about fiscal discipline, I have no beef with them. When they start bringing out the posters with racial slurs against our president, they have crossed a line and I'll not be kind and tolerant in my speech when denouncing them.

Never thought I'd see the day, when the Democrats would be forced to talk about cutting spending.

I guess you never heard of the peace dividend, and cutting of subsidies to oil and gas companies. In fact, the spending cuts due to sequestration are going to hit the defense budget pretty hard.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No. Because the Tea Party was soundly spanked -- and ended up costing the Republicans several seats in the Senate.

Out of curiosity, which seats are you referring to ? The Missouri seat where an idiot talked about legitimate rape? Or perhaps the Indiana seat, where another idiot likewise said some stupid things about rape?

Whats really amusing about this comment, is that the Tea Party, when it comes down to it, is really only about one thing. Thats fiscal sanity. Balancing the budget. Thats why people of both parties joined, why its so popular. Indeed, whats funny about it, is that even the Dems in congress are now admitting they have to adopt Tea Party principles. Even while they continue to push their typical hate speech about anyone who dares disagree with them. Never thought I'd see the day, when the Democrats would be forced to talk about cutting spending. Its so completely against their nature, I'm surprised some of them haven't keeled over with a stroke.

What makes you think he is this time? Because his title is Speaker?

No. Because the Tea Party was soundly spanked -- and ended up costing the Republicans several seats in the Senate.

You sure will get your tax increases with an Obama administration. That something you can bank on. "Spending cuts"? Don´t hold your breath.

WilliB, I credit you with never being ashamed to display your ignorance. The "tax increases" were written into the Bush tax cuts at the time they were enacted. I'll bet you don't know why. As for the spending cuts, it appears you never heard of sequestration.

That Republicans want nothing more then to rape women and kill grandma!

Allen West was shown the door by his constituents after one term. Otherwise the statement might have some truth to it. We have to note that Republicans were miserable failures in their attempts to make Barack Obama a one-term president. All that effort; all that money. How big of a losing streak are they gunning for?

you actually think the sainted Obama, who can do no wrong, who has rainbows and lollipops coming out his butt,

Most understand there are some sick and twisted individuals in the conservative ranks. It's a major liability for their party, but I'm confident there are still some adults in it who can rise to meet the challenges.

@Molenir

You actually think that Boehner, will be able to forge a decent compromise? Did you forget that he is a Republican?

Exactly. A Republican committed to destroying any good Obama might attempt to achieve. Because Obama ain't the right kind of folk Republicans want in the White House.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I am guardedly optimistic that Speaker Boehner will be able to help forge a decent compromise.

yabits. I can't believe what I just read here? You actually think that Boehner, will be able to forge a decent compromise? Did you forget that he is a Republican? That Republicans want nothing more then to rape women and kill grandma! According to your past statements, there is nothing more evil then a Republican, and you actually think the sainted Obama, who can do no wrong, who has rainbows and lollipops coming out his butt, would actually sit down and work a deal with the source of all that is evil? Really? I think you need to check your happy pills, you're overdosing because of the election.

FOWARD! Right over the fiscal cliff.

No, Serrano, as I said it as above, it will slowly start rolling down to the slope, not off the cliff. There is a big difference, as this will give both sides to sit down to negotiate. Do not worry it gets fixed. Do not start beating a drum for nothing. Do not forget Bush passed 11 trillion to Obama. .

FOWARD! Right over the fiscal cliff.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Keep it mind "go off the cliff" is a scare tactics and image GOP created to distort the reality.

It is more accurately described as a " start rolling down to the slop".

1 ( +1 / -0 )

House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said he and his party were ready to work with Obama to slash the deficit and debt over the long term.

This guy has a special skill telling you a lie with no moral concience. He and GOP blocked all balancing budget proposals in the past while Obama was willing to negotiate.

The best political strategy is to go off the cliff forcing them to compromise.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Boehner is the problem! Obama needs to kick Boehner's a$$...

Thank God, that'll never happen. Good on Boehner, never give in to your principles, that is why they ARE the opposition party, the Republicans will NOT give Obama a blank check, Boehner was going to give a revenue increase, provided he would curtail a lot of his outrageous spending, so it depends on the President, so I do hope they can reign the President in.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Willy

The whole premise is politics is the art of compromise. Horse-trading my stink, but it is a better than gridlock.

What you Republicans don't seem to understand is ours is not a parliamentary system.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

yabits:

" With a balance of tax increases and spending cuts, "

You sure will get your tax increases with an Obama administration. That something you can bank on. "Spending cuts"? Don´t hold your breath.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

How do you want to "work with" someone who has diametrically opposed opinions to your own about the nature of the problem and the way to solve it?

The whole premise of the article is either based on complete ignorance, or based on the modern political double-speak where "work with us" means "abandon your ideas and accept ours".

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Yabits

I am guardedly optimistic that Speaker Boehner will be able to help forge a decent compromise.

Why? He couldn't last time. Not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't. Because he was not in control of his caucus.

What makes you think he is this time? Because his title is Speaker?

House GOP will work with Obama to avoid fiscal cliff

And I used to say they had no sense of humor in the republican party.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

How's Wall St responding?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I say let them support every foolish notion the Dems support and let the economy suffer a sudden, quick death from which a real recovery can begin, having learned the lesson of how stupid Keynesian economics is.. Like Greece. Give 'em what they "deserve".

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

With a balance of tax increases and spending cuts...

Quite true, Yabits, but read again Boehner's position: "rejecting Obama’s demand for tax hikes for the wealthy to be included." Boehner is willing to raise additional revenue by "broadening" the tax base - i.e., eliminating deductions - but not by raising rates. Funny: that is exactly what Romney had proposed. Romney - whatever happened to him?

Fortunately, what Boehner thinks matters naught. Rates will rise automatically regardless, and the Dems can meet that immediately with a proposal to lower them on people with incomes under, say, $250K. The GOP would then be in the position of screwing over the middle class because they don't get their way with the rich or folding. I don't think even the House would be so foolish as to choose the former.

As I wrote yesterday, the GOP holds now zero cards; they will try to panic the Dems into agreeing to a sub-optimal deal. Do not take it; hold out for what Americans deserve.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

He said these could include planning for a sweeping revision next year of the byzantine US tax code, but giving no ground on Obama’s demand that any deal include higher tax rates for the wealthy. Boehner said government revenues can only be increased by cutting loopholes and special breaks in the tax code, and by reforms to spending on public retirement and health programs.

Boehner is a tool of the white-collar criminal class.

Forced march off the fiscal cliff for the lot of them.

Followed by mid-term elections...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

“Mr President, the Republican majority here in the House stands ready to work with you to do what’s best for our country,” Boehner said."

What a pile of b.s.! This is from a guy who refused to utter the word "compromise" in a tv interview.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

But really, why should the GOP start putting America first instead of their own narrow self interests now?

They've shown over the last 4 years they just can't do this.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Why should the Republicans give in to the Democrats and receive nothing in return? The members of the house were all reelected so to speak. My guess is no deal will be done and the biggest tax increase in the history of the USA will happen.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

This i have to see.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

but rejecting Obama’s demand for tax hikes for the wealthy to be included.

So you just lost to a President with 8% unemployment, you lost ground in the Senate, you didn't gain anything in the House, and your Tea Party suffered embarrassing losses.

Yep, you got this one. For sure.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

“Mr President, the Republican majority here in the House stands ready to work with you to do what’s best for our country,"

Boner should have said "the Republican majority stand ready to work with you to do what a bunch of crazy fundamentalists think is best for our country".

What is worse? The Tea Party or Jihadists? Both are fundamentalists that think the world conform to their own ideas. The Tea Party goes on to use the words Liberty and Libertarian. They have no idea what that means when they impose their world view on others.

The Republicans have no backbone and can't stand up to the fundamentalists in their party. Lincoln would turn in his grave if he learned what has become of the Republican party.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Well, let's hope all parties are serious and they can get some actual work done. It's in the GOP's best interests to extend the olive branch and start off the next four years looking like they want to change their image. And needless to say, the Dems need their cooperation if anything is to be accomplished.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Is insane GOP brinkmanship going to trigger another US credit rating downgrade?

I hope not.

If the shellacking that received yesterday at the polls taught them anything at all, it's that they should toe the line.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I am guardedly optimistic that Speaker Boehner will be able to help forge a decent compromise.

With a balance of tax increases and spending cuts, we will be able to get our fiscal house back in order within a decade. More than anything, I hope that Americans learn the lessons of what went wrong the last time we had it together: the years 1998~2000 when the government shifted from deficits to surpluses.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner?? You gotta love this dude's name!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

but insisted they would not cave in to tax increases to boost revenues

So... business as usual, then.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Boehner is the problem! Obama needs to kick Boehner's a$$...
