The average American? Huh? If they didnt do what we did then that's their problem. You and I get the tax cuts, the working class gets the scraps. You and I both agree on that.

Just wait if the GOP wins again....next up on the chopping block will be social security and medicare. That will push them even further down the ladder in American society.

And they'll vote for it, too.

You should be fine as long as you're in the top 10-15% of Americans. That's where most of the new wealth goes.

Already there.

What you don't want to be is a retiree on a fixed income and no health insurance slipping further and further behind.

Got my own.

Sorry, the Dems can’t make a case that the country is worse off, good luck with that.

Huh? You made a killing under Obama, a top 1%er who increased their stock portfolio greatly. Not our fault if others can't keep up with us.

I am making tons more money under Trump. Of course.

How much more are you making under Trump? Zero

Sorry, the Dems can’t make a case that the country is worse off, good luck with that. You won’t convince any investor or financial expert. But keep trying.

Blacklabel:. who exactly Is this made up person who is deciding your life for you?

Do I let a non-college educated Trump fan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

She would actually become president of the United States if something happened to both Trump and Pence.

Incredible how the attacks on a president for deficits and debts ceased almost completely after Trump was inaugurated.

Bass in particular was livid but now seems just fine with it.

Torn here.

Black supports tax cuts that increase the deficit but puts more money in my pocket at his expense. On the other hand, it creates deficits.

Do I let a non-college educated Trump fan with no health insurance on a static income falling behind decide my financial future at his own expense?

Hard to tell.

Thought Dems were claiming Trump is to blame for the increasing national debt, oops.

Democrats have been pushing for increased spending for domestic programs,

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Trump and the GOP should start the negotiations by explaining how they will make up the lost revenue from the tax giveaway to the rich. Cut programs? Fine. Give us a list.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Heh, Republicans want to waste $25 billion on a wall, add $1 trillion to the debt so the rich can get richer, and they want to whine about money?

But, you guys!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

So much for getting to the Moon during the Trump Presidency. Now he will blame Congress for that too, though it wasn't a realistic goal.

By now it is very obvious. Republicans can't govern. They are only good at resisting.

Maybe, if Democrats would step back for a moment and not use any economic model of income redistribution as a policy that would help them achieve that.

LOL. Our current economic model is based on income redistribution, only it's been funneled upward for decades. America has been experiencing class warfare for a long, long time, only the side winning has been the extremely wealthy.

Since the 1970s, a disproportionate share of economic gains have gone to the wealthiest households, creating a widening income and wealth gap over time. By 2016, the top 1 percent of US households had more wealth than the entire bottom 90 percent.

If numbers like these don't scare you, I don't know what will. Trump is putting people off their trail for the time being--blaming the browns--but eventually, as all of history attests, this cannot and will not stand. Good thing a lot of 1 percenters are building bunkers.

The One Percent Have Gotten $21 Trillion Richer Since 1989. The Bottom 50% Have Gotten Poorer.

Is an economic system that distributes its benefits in this manner consistent with Americans’ common-sense views of economic justice? If not, would incremental changes be sufficient to bring it into alignment with the median American’s values? Or would more sweeping measures be required?

Put differently: Does the average American believe that, over the past three decades, our nation’s richest one percent have contributed roughly $22 trillion more to our collective well-being than the poorest 50 percent have? Does she think that the tens of millions of working-class people who spent the past 30 years cooking other Americans’ dinner, cleaning their toilets, caring for their children, harvesting their crops, ringing up their groceries — and performing the countless other poorly remunerated forms of labor that our society demands — collectively produced an infinitesimal fraction of the value that America’s corporate lawyers, hedge-fund managers, venture capitalists, specialist physicians, heirs and heiresses, and other high-paid professionals did?

What should terrify you is not "socialism" but a populist Democratic Party that fights for working people and not Wall St. or Silicon Valley. We're not there yet but Warren or Sanders could lead us there.

Maybe, if Democrats would step back for a moment and not use any economic model of income redistribution as a policy that would help them achieve that.

And in case you've forgotten the 20th century, that combination of vision and policy led to a 40% year stranglehold on congress. People will recognize Trump's faux populism for what it is if Dems only have the courage to elect someone who can present an alternative vision of what happened to our country, and a way forward.

Such as?

Neither is the new socialist party that was once the Democrat party.

Fortunately for you, most people who read this GOP talking point are too young to remember the New Deal or the Great Society, which defined the Democratic Party well into the '70s. While there's been an infusion of progressives in the party of late (and certainly its base and those under 40, regardless or race or gender) the party is still run by neoliberals like Pelosi, Schumer and Perez. They're still pushing candidates like Biden, Harris or Mayor Pete.

The Republican Party is no longer recognizable.

He said both sides agreed not to hold the debt limit "hostage to spending."

Spending should be held hostage by debt limits.

The Republican Party is no longer recognizable. It's been consumed from within by a metastizing cancer of hypocrisy and ignorance.
