Will be interesting. Next English PM will be Jewish, and he is a Muslim, and the most important issue is Scottish Independence.

Next English PM will be Jewish

?

According to Ipsos polling, he enjoys a favorable opinion among just 22 percent of voters

Not great. Is this part of general disaffection with the SNP or him personally? Bit of both?

Labour are hoping to improve on their seat count in Scotland.

Muslim First Minister, Hindu PM. Times are a changing.

Corbyn is banned from the labor party in the next General Election. Corbyn is suspended from being a Labour MP and sits as an independent following a row over antisemitism.

Yousaf vowed to continue pursuing the SNP's central policy -- independence for Scotland -- which Sturgeon has championed since the party lost a 2014 referendum on the issue.

"We will be the generation that delivers independence for Scotland," Yousaf said in his victory speech, adding in subsequent interviews that he would formally request that the UK government allow another vote.

Ha. Dream on.

I’m actually quite sympathetic to the idea of Scottish independence - imagine living in a country that has been under the leadership of nonsense like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss despite this party having next to no seats in your country.

Also, the Brexit vote was a game-changer.

The results of the next general election will be interesting. Some are predicting Labour in particular may take some seats off the SNP. If Labour form the next government with gains in Scotland, I can’t imagine them giving an inch.

"The SNP do not have the answers on the NHS or on the cost-of-living crisis," Labour leader Keir Starmer tweeted alongside his congratulations to Yousaf.

Whatever Mr Starmer says, neither does he!

Scotland's new leader, its youngest and first from a minority ethnic background, charged with reviving a faltering independence movement after Nicola Sturgeon's long tenure

Iain Banks and his avatar Cheradenine Zakalwe are looking down on you sir.

Don't let them down.

Both Nicola Sturgeon, Alex Salmond lead Scotland to demand a sovereign state, independent from the United Kingdom.

Heart and soul.

I will never truly understand how the future of an independent Scotland rests in the potential leadership of Humza Yousaf, dubbed "Humza Useless".

Humza Yousaf has under performed in every portfolio, every unjustified promotion.

Nicola Sturgeon could have guided the next/future First Minster!

Yet Nicola Sturgeon has walked away, maybe I have missed something, please set me straight.

Look, Nicola Sturgeon "surprise" step down, resignation, after one successful re-election after another, to then, well to justify this...

Sturgeon, 52, has served as first minister since November 2014 but said last month that she felt unable to give "every ounce of energy" to the job.

This a betrayal of office to the people of Scotland.

Humza Yousaf, after just 6 weeks, has been elected into the big chair and ill equipped for the task at hand.

Labour leader Keir Starmer has wasted no time in circling his vague hollow promises and pledges.

"The SNP do not have the answers on the NHS or on the cost-of-living crisis," Labour leader Keir Starmer tweeted alongside his congratulations to Yousaf.

"Only Labour can provide the change that Scotland needs," he added.

I would have loved to have heard what a fully steamed up "Billy Connoly" would have made of all of this.

Sadly, one of Scotland's Greatest Comedians, has been forced to retirement through a disease which can effect us all - Parkinson's.

I hope there are others forthcoming to follow in his footsteps from Scotland, and allow us all to see a more Comical side to current Political affairs within the UK - that may actually tell a truer story than what we are reading here & elsewhere.

I don't think so. Eight years or so as a country's leader is probably enough for any country. She did a great job, and I think she's wise to step down.

There's a lot of media talk about division in the SNP, but I don't see it so much. One problem the SNP have is that while they all support an independent Scotland, there can be disagreement on day-to-day government matters. But the disagreements are not so big. Generally, they pursue a social-democratic goal. Probably far less divided than the Tory and Labour parties.

Did she really. Well, independence seems to be as far away as ever, SNP membership is way down on what they were saying it was, there are reports of £600,000 going missing..

Furthermore, in terms of how Sturgeon actually ran the country, the record appears to be more "mixed" than "great".

albaleo, honestly not anticipating Nicola Sturgeon to step down, certainly not in such a straight forward fashion intended, at the very least before the next general election.

It is a shock, surprise, as you point out, the eight years as First Minster, the election successes, to resign at what appears to be knee jerk moment, is may I contend out of character.

The open debate was much needed within the party.

It is a shame that Kate Forbes will not be present in Humza Yousaf cabinet.

Debate, strong harsh criticism is healthy, should not be seen as divisive.

Sturgeon, like any politician who’s been in power for that amount of time, has has a mixed record.

Objectively speaking, being in office for 8 years indicates qualities. South of the border, we’ve rattled through lazy, indecisive, pathologically dishonest and downright ridiculous leaders in that time.

I’d take Sturgeon in a heartbeat over that shower of you know what.

Objectively speaking, being in office for 8 years indicates qualities.

Sometimes it's more indicative of the deficiencies of the opposition than any of the incumbent's qualities

Humza Yousaf needed to wipe the political slate clean.

After eight years Independence is streaming out a fresh approach.

The SNP desperately needs to nail some solid wins in government, proving the party can govern competently.

The future for Scottish Impendence lies in the hands of a Scottish government that can create the confidence in communities to forge a brave new world , economically, social justice, education, health care etc., outside of Westminster's handouts.
