Hundreds were arrested after violent clashes between anti-lockdown protesters and police in Australia's two largest cities Saturday as the country recorded its sharpest rise in daily COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

Since last year Western governments have shown their true colors and intentions by taking it easy on the far left radicals destroying cities and now conversely being very brutal and harsh with real true peaceful protesters as we witnessed in germany, france and now australia.

Western free thinkers must unite.

Why was Australia allegedly doing so well before? Masks? Why are they not doing well now?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

So selfish of four or five thousand protesters creating a super spreader event and ensuring that current lockdowns last for probably at least an extra month if not longer. Those caught face $5500 fines and it should be higher for all the pain they are causing.

When everyone worked together the lockdowns worked fine. Now that a few thousand are not complying with lockdown restrictions they will last much longer than they otherwise would.

Everyone is tired of covid but these protests prolong the pain. Nothing positive is achieved. Disgraceful.

@ Fard, it's pretty obvious. Australia was doing well due to swift decisive action.

Unfortunately the (mah Freedumbs' mobs are holding everyone back now, globally.

Whatever ones views politically or otherwise, not a smidgen of positively would ever come from such a demonstration.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Well, one could coral and vaccinate all , or use darts.

Heck at least take advantage of the opportunity, of course, most would have a hissy fit, but at least hospital admissions would be lowered

Looks like a 3 Stooges Pie Fight.

Is the gooey stuff a new police weapon like banana peels?

Most of the children in Sweden by now most likely have been exposed to previous variants of virus and most likely to a degree have developed immunity to COVID19 .

The children in Australia will have to go through this process for the first time with the Delta and until there is a solid indication that the little ones will be fine the ZERO COVID must continue.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

The only thing keeping this from happening in America is the second amendment. Good luck to Australians. God speed rebels.

-1 ( +13 / -14 )

That not cream, it is capsicum spray in foam form. And the 253 arrest all have been issued $5000 fines. 5 police have broken noses. 1 police stabbed in the neck.

The best way we can look forward to freedom is by making sure that we get vaccinated."

Totally right.

Unfortunately the numbskulls who were at the demo do not understand logic.

Interesting concept of freedom. Accept an experimental injection with no long term study on possible side effects and no proof of effectiveness, or stay under house arrest.

I wonder whether these freedom fundamentalists check on every ingredient in the food that they eat.

Ever thought of giving up eating, it might clog your arteries in the long term.

Western free thinkers must unite.

You mean the free thinkers who parrot the exact same slogans?

Totalitarians would love these people.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

You won’t get the viruses down with different point of views or even raw stupid violence against teach other. That will impress those very small beasts not at all. Make the contrary and you’ll be fine. Speak with one voice and use intelligence. New variants like delta plus AY.3 or similar will force you into one voice , together acting and lockdowns anyway if you don’t quickly regain consciousness.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

We stand with you Australians who protest against these restrictions!

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

Never in my life did I think that Westerners would mock freedom as we see here on jt and all around the world.

It is shockingly chilling as we see the results of a poor public education system.

Just watched leftist Victoria premier daniel andrews explicitly say on camera that 'protesting is not doing the right thing'

Meanwhile all last year we heard leftist politicians encouraging their followers to get out in the streets and protest. And 'protest' they did causing billions and billions of dollars in damage as well as beatings, assaults and even murders.

How will the Australian Criminal Correction Department implement Social Distancing now ?

Japans? Australia's is middle of the road, not poor.

Absolutely correct.

America? None of that happened in Australia.

Expect to see this prop up more and more.

Asians don't do this because their lockdown, even China level, is not as serious.

It's mentally damaging to just keep locking down all the times. This time, maybe it's good to live with virus.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

No one can answer that, Larr.

In the meantime we are trying to coordinate the rowing on this lifeboat, but some people reject anyone telling them what to do, deliberately rowing in the wrong direction.

It’s hard to stomach those complaining about the anti-lockdown protestors when their were far more Leftist protests that involved many times more people. No social distancing, screaming and yelling. These protests in Australia were for the most part peaceful. In the US they were extremely violent leading to dozens of deaths and billions in damage to public and private property. There was even a long running insurrection against a Federal government judicial building.

I wear a mask and got my two shots. But totally understand the frustration on the part of many due to the politicization of civil rights.

Australia is on fire. The blokes might want to drink at home for the time being?? Lockdown??

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Australia pops. What a show ay?

She’ll be right cobba. . These drongos are just loud, distracted, confused, scared/angry/bored and need someone/thing/system/story to put all that energy. Better out than in after all.

Sort of bound to happen, hoping it wouldn’t though. Sorry for you guys in Melbourne and Sydney but sanity and the rule of common sense and law will prevail. Let the system do it’s job and we can debate in the years to come how it was all handled. It’s what a healthy democracy does, and there’s a robust discussion always happening in Australia,

Australia government is either grossly incompetent or corrupt.

Lockdowns with no end in sight 18 months into this thing?

There are many tools to fight COVID by now.

New Zealand is in LEVEL 4 NATION WIDE LOCKDOWN because of Australia.

We are a TEAM OF 5 MILLION, Aussies are selfish and arrogant.

The BIG PICTURE eludes these people.

If these pathetic losers had a single thought in their head it would be lonely.

Yeah except this protest wasn't peaceful. It was violent.

People should be cooperating and doing everything possible to limit the spread of this pandemic. That means wearing face masks so you don't spread your germs to others, sanitizing, social distancing and being vaccinated. Unless everyone does these things the pandemic will continue to mutate and kill people. All of this misery is so avoidable if people would only set their egos aside, be strong, accept a couple of years of inconvenience and do everything necessary to stop the spread of this pandemic. The more people resist doing these things the longer the pandemic situation will last and the more human suffering we will have to endure.

A super spreader event in the land down under. They are so much like their American counterparts.

Australia government is either grossly incompetent or corrupt.

You forgot to mention severely obtuse.

Talk about a country run by "wheel chocks"

These violent anti-vax, covid-denialist "protesters" are Anti-Australian filth. Fortunately the vast majority of people are against them.

It is telling that a number of them were seen wearing nazi symbols like iron crosses on their t-shirts, and sticking hundreds of anti-semitic stickers around Melbourne. Unmasked, spitting on police, throwing flares, chanting that "vaccines kill", holding "9/11 conspiracy" banners and "Covid is a hoax" signs.

The problem is the authorities are way too soft and let these scum proceed and spread the virus everywhere.

New Zealand is in LEVEL 4 NATION WIDE LOCKDOWN because of Australia.

We are a TEAM OF 5 MILLION, Aussies are selfish and arrogant.

NZ is on a lockdown because of the incompetence of the quarantine system there - as well as having the LOWEST vaccination rate in the developed world. Even Australia's is better, and thats saying something. If NZ are going to continue to allow any planes to fly in, they need to fix these things - fast.

NZ is on a lockdown because of the incompetence of the quarantine system there

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

Probably because the govt has now stated the new outbreak came in via a traveller returning from Sydney.

NZ needs to work out if they will now close off to everyone - both Kiwi and foreigner. If not, they need to get their border measures against Covid sorted. Shame to see all the hard work and the best freedom in the world undone by Covid cases leaking out from returned travellers into the largely unvaxxed population.

That's how it got in. I'm wondering how you concluded the 'incompetence' part.

NZ needs to work out if they will now close off to everyone - both Kiwi and foreigner.

They already have worked this out. They will allow Kiwi's back into New Zealand.

If not, they need to get their border measures against Covid sorted.

I believe the do have this sorted. Of course, they are making minor tweaks here and there.

What you are not being told is that with ALL these covid cases, only 2 or 3 people are actually dying of Covid each day. Yesterday, one person each in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. Don't mean to sound cold hearted, but these are acceptable numbers without a hysterical over-reaction from the government.

There will NEVER be a "zero covid" time, it is here for the long run. Rather , the important thing to do is manage the risk while not destroying the economy. All the subsity monies being paid out will have to be paid back by the government at some time in the future. That means the next generation or two will also suffer from Covid, at least financially.

What you are not being told is that with ALL these covid cases, only 2 or 3 people are actually dying of Covid each day.

Actually, the number of deaths per day is published. So I don't know why you think that we aren't told this. It's completely transparent. Recently the had 9 deaths in one day in Australia.

And the reason that the death numbers are so low is because of the lockdown.

Yesterday, one person each in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. Don't mean to sound cold hearted, but these are acceptable numbers without a hysterical over-reaction from the government.

There goes that word again 'hysterical'. Definition: 'affected by, or deriving from wildly uncontrolled emotion'. That's a pretty bad word choice. These decisions being made aren't emotional. They are driven by some cool headed logic. And, yeah, you don't mean to sound cold hearted, but you do nonetheless.

There will NEVER be a "zero covid" time, it is here for the long run.

Well there has been zero Covid in the past and it will happen again. But, sure, that's not the long-term plan. The long-term plan is to get the vaccination rate up around 80% and then open things up.

Rather , the important thing to do is manage the risk while not destroying the economy.

Yes. That is exactly what they are doing.
