Natural disasters are humbling, a lot of people believe floods are a thing of developing countries in the tropics where rain is unpredictable and the infrastructure to protect the people and their houses is lacking, but as seen here, this can happen almost everywhere, and even buildings of the best possible quality can't always guarantee the safety of the people inside.

Yes, so very tragic… On TV they showed one place where the small town’s mayor told that they even had renewed and made everything safe against possible floods there five years ago, so now everyone felt absolutely safe, but it was just so overwhelming huge. Nature finally seems to have more power than best human precautions.

Well I’ll be darned, a conservative calling for speeding up global efforts to fight climate change.
Strangerland
The idea that we can “fight” climate change makes about as much sense as “fighting” the rise of the sun.
You're right. The accurate way to say it isn't as short though. We need to actively change our human habits that have accelerated climate change to a rate that is detrimental to humanity.
"Fighting climate change" has a bit more brevity to it, but I can understand how the inaccuracy due to it not actually being a physical fight would cause you to want to ignore the problem altogether, as for some people accuracy of terminology is more important than ensuring the health of this one single planet on which we all live.

It is clearly man made and it can be reversed by man.

Merkel has not been hypocritical, but a certain Caligula baby-man who denied climate change as a 'myth' certainly was.

Germany "must prepare much better" in future, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said, adding that "this extreme weather is a consequence of climate change".
This is a politician, not a scientist, and is an irresponsible statement that naive shrieking followers might claim is science.,
In urban areas with poor drainage and buildings located in flood zones, the damage can be severe.
This seems to be the problem--poor infrastructure to deal with natural calamities that have been occurring for thousands of years.

I wonder if Merkel is having second thoughts now about the pipeline from Russia now - because of CO2 and all.
Wolfpack
Nah, just calling out the hypocrisy of Merkel. The idea that we can “fight” climate change makes about as much sense as “fighting” the rise of the sun.
