A single team of scientists/inventors does more to cease our dependence of fossil fuel than thousands of protesters. Having said that, I for myself would join the rally just to get the kick out of it and of course to broadcast the message of how our energy needs pollute our planet.

I suppose nobody has told these fools that there has been no "global warming" for 20 years? (A fact, for which by now there are over 50 different explanations.... so much for "settled science"). The ice caps are bigger than when Al Gore wrote his fiction book, the sea has not been rising, and scandal after scandal has followed the original climategate revelation about faked figures and biased pubishing rules... yet these low-information drones march on. Sad!
nath
What a joke. Ask any Greenlander what they think about this comment. Ask any scientist who is actually studying the ice caps in Greenland.

A great way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of the bodily kind (and save the forests that are cleared for pasture) is to eat less meat, especially beef.

Got to get this pushed through or public sector will miss out on chance to squeeze more blood out of the turnips.
Looks like Leonardo is a repeat customer.

Copenhagen is hardly a major air transport hub. Do you suggest VIP attendees swim and cycle their way there?
WilliB
Here is the official EC site, fumbling for explanations as to why the actual data for over decade do not support the "global warming" predicted in the various computer models:
https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/news/climate-anomaly-causes-global-warming-slow-down
Among the possible explanations, they list "recent changes in the tropical Pacific Ocean, the accelerated melting of Arctic ice, changes in the deep ocean heat storage or the increasing content of aerosols in the stratosphere".
In other words: they have no clue.
And that is "settled science"???
turbotsat
I suggest they teleconference, and forego their salaries and expenses for the duration of the conference, as a duty to the public.

Sensenotsocommon:
In fact, Copenhagen is a major air transport hub. It is the central airport for Northern Europe, with connections all over the world, and the home base of SAS. How about some fact-checking before opining?
zichi:
I would guess they are selective cherry-picked and undated. Are you saying the recent satellite images from the University of Illinois's Cryosphere project are photoshoped? They show a 43% increase, where Al Gore predicted the ice would be gone:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2738653/Stunning-satellite-images-summer-ice-cap-thicker-covers-1-7million-square-kilometres-MORE-2-years-ago-despite-Al-Gore-s-prediction-ICE-FREE-now.html

Right, they should clearly be getting all their climate information from the objective paragon of scientific excellence that is the Daily Mail.
WilliB
senseiman:
The Dailiy Mail did not conduct the research; they only reported it. (Unlike activist websites...)
Bashing the messenger?
senseiman
And they do such a lovely job with the tabloid style graphics too. Clearly a very trustworthy messenger with absolutely no agenda it is seeking to push.
Also clear that if you had read it through for a purpose other than trolling for information to make snarky comments about global warming protestors you would have noticed that all of the scientists they quote point out that yearly variations in the ice sheet size are more or less meaningless.

WilliB,
No. 16 in Europe. Just above Oslo. Not opinion, fact.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_busiest_airports_in_Europe
Dog save us from Daily Mail believers.
WilliB
SenseNotsocommon:
Still a major transport hub, and THE transport hub for Northin Europe, which less populated than other areas. Daily direct flighs to everywhere for anybody who does not prefer his privat jet. Fact.
How about disbelievers in the University of Illinois, and satellite images?
But yes, blind faith is so much better, isn´t it.
senseiman
Oh, I thought all scientists didnt have a clue based on your earlier post. Well now that you have given the official seal of approval to those at the University of Illinois apparently based solely on the fact that the prestigious Daily Mail cites them, lets take a look at what they actually say when they arent being selectively quoted to make Al Gore look bad;
I won`t go on since they shockingly seem to think this is something to actually worry about instead of trying to cherry pick whatever data they can to make Al Gore look bad.
SenseNotSoCommon
WilliB,
QED Bishop Desmond Tutu, President Lula da Silva, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh couldn't catch a direct scheduled flight should they have wanted to be that much greener flying to the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference. There aren't any.
It's a major hub for Scandinavians as they escape Snormossen, Middelfart and Pissholmen in search of Mediterranean melanomas. For the rest of us, it's a backwater.
A freshman would be laughed out of class for suggesting that two years' climate data was indicative of anything. Clutching at straws, are we not?
WilliB
Sensenotsocommon:
This is getting ridiculous.
Al Gore predicted the ice would be gone, the University of Illinois's Cryosphere project shows it has increased by 50%. Simple fact.
Btw, as I pointed out before, the EU Commission science service too is fumbling for explanations why their much-touted global warming is not happening:
https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/news/climate-anomaly-causes-global-warming-slow-down
Maybe they should resort to name.-calling too...

Well, we have very nice weather in Melbourne since Climate change expert Professor Tim Flannery predicted there will be no rain and all dams will dry up in Australia. We have rain in the night and sun in the day. The weather is never been so good as now. Our dams are full and former labor Government $ 3.5 billions desalination plant does not need run.
The Climate change experts don't give up even thought everything they predict was wrong. They are mentally ill. Himalaya still has glacier but they don't confess they are wrong.
turbotsat
SenseNotSoCommon well knows the point is the climate change delegates shouldn't have any trouble hiring taxes, or even better, riding airport shuttle buses, and taking common transport instead of gas-guzzling limousines and private jets.
"Shouldn't have any trouble" if they really believed in their cause and weren't just trying to fake up scares to squeeze funds out of the public.
Al Gore is the posterboy for climate change lip service but he didn't use all 1200 limousines himself!
Re hubs, Copenhagen/Malmö city airport system is no. 55 in the world, above Berlin, Brussels/Charleroi, various others, not too far under various other others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_busiest_city_airport_systems_by_passenger_traffic
nath
Maybe in America. But for most of us the posterboys of climate change are the thousands and thousands of climate change scientists who are telling us its real.
SenseNotSoCommon
Ever tried catching a cab when there's a major event in town?
Hardly stretched Lincolns or S600s. They'll have been the smaller-engined, regular European sedans that EU operators prefer.
Copenhagen does not have the direct flights that visiting heads of state might just have used if available.
senseiman
Another simple fact is that 50% increase only looks like an increase because 2012 was the record low. The longer term data, which you could glean even from a casual glance at that chart in the Daily Mail article, clearly indicate a long term decline
Oh yes. EU scientists explaining something with the best science available is fumbling to you, but the Daily Mail putting out a laughably misleading hatchet piece full of tabloid graphics and headlines that directly contradict everything the scientists they cite are actually saying is perfectly reliable and not fumbling in any way.
turbotsat
Reply deleted, to the effect that limousine = luxury car, stretch or not, that Copenhagen has stretch limousines, limousines were imported from 100's of miles away, and delegates if following their preaching could have taken bus or taxis, but a link provided stated the bus to the venue was going empty, in favor of limos. And: how many "heads of state" did the conference need in attendance?

Whenever climate scientists can come up with a model that can accurately predict global temperature change over a ten year period then I might start to consider paying attention to what they think it will be in 100 years from now. They keep projecting temperature rises that should be taking place now that are not occurring. Now if average global temperatures had risen over the last 18 years you can be sure that the Alarmists would never let us hear the end of it. So why not consider that the global warming scare might be a bit overwrought?
It is obvious that scientists do not yet have enough knowledge to make a credible prediction of future climate. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Nor is it necessary to deny that none of their dire predictions have been proven true. Al Gore stated that the best science indicated that the Arctic ice cap would be gone by now. Well, it's not. It turns out his science wasn't all that good. Don't get mad a skeptics for pointing out how spectacularly wrong he was.
The answer to skeptics is not to demean them or make an appeal to consensus - since when is science ever about "consensus" anyway. Scientists should not go around shouting consensus and instead be improving the accuracy of their climate change theory and models. There is no shame in being wrong. After all, it's science. Being wrong is okay. Denying they are wrong in the face of mounting evidence stating otherwise is a different matter altogether.

Overall, the world's oceans are warmer now than at any point in the last 50 years. The change is most obvious in the top layer of the ocean, which has grown much warmer since the late 1800s. This top layer is now getting warmer at a rate of 0.2°F per decade. Even if people stop adding extra greenhouse gases to the atmosphere now, oceans will continue to get warmer for many years as they slowly absorb extra heat from the atmosphere. Scientist think that warmer oceans affect weather patterns, cause more powerful tropical storms, and can impact many kinds of sea life, such as corals and fish. Warmer oceans are also one of the main causes of rising sea level.
