Those are some very brave IAEA members to take the risks they are taking.

First NPP in a war zone and occupied by foreign troops. No5 reactor was suspended yesterday.

So, for almost half a year, the Russian force tasked with protecting the nuclear power plant and the radioactive material on site didn't take advantage of being deep within Zelensky's area to shell anything.

Zelensky's forces retreated to the vicinity of the plant, and somehow still no shelling into or out of the plant.

Zelensky's forces retreated to the other side of the large reservoir and major river and suddenly Russia is shelling both into and out of the plant???

Does that make any sort of sense on any level?

Zelensky ,let Putin got into his grill, Ukrainain do not have no choice to win,or live under Russian occupation forever

The Russians know that the Ukrainians can hit their artillery when it is in a firing position. That capability has been amply demonstrated. The Russians are hiding their artillery inside the grounds of the reactor complex where they know the Ukrainians won't shoot. The bring the guns outside the grounds of the reactor complex, fire some rounds then pull the artillery piece right back into the reactor complex. They are shooting sometimes right over the reactor buildings. Both their 152 mm field guns and the Grad rocket systems fire over the reactors then they are hidden in the reactor complex between uses.

IAEA experts 'not going anywhere' after reaching Ukraine nuclear plant:

They can't go anywhere nor could they do anything.

IAEA experts would provide an impartial, neutral & technically sound assessment of the situation.

Then, compile a report, then leave for good.

Then, no follow-up..

@Desert Tortoise

The Russians are hiding their artillery inside the grounds of the reactor complex

They don't.

where they know the Ukrainians won't shoot

They actually shoot, a lot. The IAEA team was presented with shell fragments collected on the premises of the plant, including shells from M777 US-made howitzers.

I wonder why there is not a word about a commando raid, staged by Ukroforces yesterday with the aim to capture the nuclear plant while the IAEA team was there. Luckily the raid failed completely.

@Redstorm

There have been photos of Russian army trucks with ammo inside the NPP

sources say power plant is mined

The assumption the trucks were with ammo was based on what? The claim "the plant was mined" was based on what? Can we have proof, not false claims?

They turned off the internet, left only landline phones

Very reasonable security measure. A couple of staff of the plant were exposed as Ukroartillery spotters.

Ukraine is concerned Russia has started shelling the area it occupies to try to create a false narrative

Why bother? Russia does not need to create anything, Ukraine already done its best. Ukraine shelled the cities of Donbass almost daily since 2014, it fired heavy artillery shells and MRLS missiles at cities and towns it lost since this February, bombarding power plants, bridges, railway stations. Now the nuclear plant.

Russia has staged sham votes in the past, such as with Crimea, which it annexed in 2014

If the West did not like the result of the vote it does not mean it was sham. Kosovo - that was a sham.

Russia says Ukrainians are attacking themselves and want to blow up a nuclear plant in their own country. And Reuters says this could not be confirmed. Who is writing these stories, Lavrov? Or is he just paying for the reporting?

He said a group of IAEA experts had stayed behind at the plant and would provide an impartial, neutral and technically sound assessment of the situation.

Those experts are some extra level of brave.

So may Russian supporters commenting. I hope your countries aren't invaded by Putin or some other despot.

Hopefully with the experts in the plant they can see if it's any kind of danger of going boom!

As for the shelling, it's not in Ukraine's interest to bomb their own power plant and risk a nuclear explosion, devastating the land around it for centuries. They'll remember Chernobyl... why would they want to repeat that?

@Thunderbird2

it's not in Ukraine's interest to bomb their own power plant and risk a nuclear explosion

It's not in Russia's interest to bomb the power plant they control now and risk a nuclear explosion. Ukrainians lost it and they know it. That's why the buildings there have holes from artillery fire on the river side (the positions of the Ukroartillery are just across the river).

@Redstorm

I included a Russian link

Where? TheDrive is a car-oriented website, seems from California. The Insider is a murky organization based somewhere in Europe. In the articles you provided links to there are a lot of probables and empty assumptions, almost no facts.

Army trucks do not usually carry burgers

Army trucks usually carry anything the troops need. It actually can be burgers, or anything the soldiers eat.

Without evidence how can you claim the article is false?

You provided no proof to confirm your claim the plant was mined, ot it is used as an ammunition depot.

more anti-west rhetoric

More anti-Russian rhetoric.

are you enjoying your western freedom & lifestyle ?

What's the connection with the subject?

@Redstorm

The Insider is a Russia-focused, independent media outlet

I've read their homepage. Note the "Russia-focused", not the "Russian media source" as you previously claimed. And I asked for proof of their (and your) mines-ammo claims, not the list of awards these media guys give to each other.

Russia made and broke agreements. The 1994 agreement if Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons Russia would protect it. But instead it invaded and started a war. Even at the end of last year Putin denied the troops on the border were for an invasion.

Putin is the aggressor and invader. Revisionism will not change that.

Russians have agreed to two IAEA inspectors remaining at the NPP. The inspectors have been denied access to some important areas. Russian tanks at the NPP were shown on TV.
