As harsh as it sounds, all the women should get out of Kabul and leave it to these misogynistic morons.

Hakman

But wait, yesterday here on Japan Today I read a story about how the Taliban were promising to respect women and all that.

There is no contradiction. They respect women in accordance with Sharia. Your idea of "respect" and theirs are different, that is all. The Taliban are not lying.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Darn it, Hakman! You beat me to it! Yesterday was all about how the Taliban was going to respect women's rights. Well, that didn't age very well, did it?

6 ( +12 / -6 )

Since returning to power the group has pledged to respect women's rights.

hahahahahahahaha! yer, right, oh my lord, this made me smile this morning, i just cant beleave that the taliban, have change over night, well it looks like we were right, they have not changed at all.

a country like Afghanistan was starting to come into the 21 century with modern things, has just gone back into the dark ages over night, what a toilet of a place. I just feel so sorry for the public who live there, it must be terrifying.

Any workable suggestions as how they should "all" do that?

Bungle

What is notable is the sheer wanton arrogance from Biden and his team. Refusing to take questions and going to ground, the snappy dismissiveness and contempt

How ironic that the Taliban leaders took questions at the press conference and Biden did not. On the same note, Trump is banned on Twitter, while the Taliban leader has an account with, what was it 3 million? followers.

We live in bizarro world.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

The Taliban say they have changed then bring back the old leaders from exile to again run things the way they were twenty years ago. Women cover your faces, me leave yours uncovered and grow beards. Women must not talk to unrelated men and must be accompanied by a male family member.

NOTHING has changed and repression is everywhere. Boycott the Taliban. Remove Afghanistan from the UN and world bodies. Isolate them until they learn that Sharia law from centuries ago, belongs only in the past.

Terrorists will set up bases again under Taliban protection and someone will have to go in and bomb the bases out of existence again. Almost not worth leaving in the first place.

It was Trump who made the decision for troop withdrawals in 2017. When he left office only 2,500 remained. Not enough for a secure force.

Where do you get your news from? Trump had a deal with Taliban (and yes, you have to talk the bad guys if they are the ones you have to deal with.) That deal was enforced realistic safeguards that the Talibans understood. Yes, the current regime would have collapsed eventually, but it would have been a controlled withdrawal, not the current disaster.

Bidens handlers simply ditched the deal and announced a unilateral withdrawal on Sep 11 for domestic propaganda purposes..... expecting that the other side still would abide by the deal without any reason to do so. That is insanity.

The same would have happened if Trump had continued as president. He made the peace agreement with the Taliban. What was he thinking.

Absolutely not. And if the same HAD happened, Trump would be impeached right now, and this time successfully. What about the current guy? Isn´t impeachment what you wanted then?

Why do we get very sensitive when it comes to Taliban? Just because our understanding of Taliban is what we have heard or read in western media. How many of us knew about Afganistan or Taliban before 2000? How is Taliban any different than the rulers of Saudi Arabia? Just because Saudi Arabia is an ally (and more importantly has oil - wink), we don't hear much about their laws. Believe me once SA stops being US ally, we will hear new stories about them and US will not waste a single day to help saudi people (wink wink).

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Seems to me, could be wrong, but people complaining about how Biden pulled this off and now "worrying" about the women of Afghanistan, couldn't jump on the bandwagon fast enough to have the US pull the military out, as quickly as possible!

Biden is not responsible for every man or woman on the planet, yet some folks blame him, even if they stub their own toes!

The Afghan military COULD have stood up to the Taliban, they had what, 10 times the number of fighters, yet they cut and ran?

Its idiotic to blame Biden for that, and it's idiotic to believe that he should be responsible for what is happening now as well.

An truly unpropitious, sinistrous, future for women and young girls.

"Fear Allah regarding women. Verily you have married them with the trust of Allah, and made their bodies lawful with the word of Allah. You have got (rights) over them, and they have got (rights) over you in respect of their food and clothing according to your means."

The reality.......

The Taliban knocked on her door 3 times. The fourth time, they killed her

CNN reporter describes Taliban chanting ‘Death to America’ on Kabul streets as ‘friendly’

CNN’s Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward described a group of Taliban fighters as “friendly” whilst they chanted “Death to America” on the streets of Kabul.

During a news package on Monday, the reporter interviewed a number of insurgents and Afghanistan citizens following the fall of the capital and at one stage, described the situation as “utterly bizarre”.

“They’re just chanting ‘Death to America’, but they seem friendly at the same time. It’s utterly bizarre,” she told viewers. Ward also noted later in the package that her “presence” on the streets was creating “tension”, because she’s a woman.

What was Biden thinking?

It does not seem that Biden (or rather his handlers) were thinking much, other than "everything Trump-related must be reversed". So they assumed that the Talibs would abide by a deal after you withdraw from it..... it is hard to get more stupid than that.

Nothing in that post proves fake news, just proves CNN has the courage to report what is happening.

Err.... did you read the quote? CNN claimed that the shouts of "death to America" were "friendly". Is that "reporting what is happening"; or is that an opinion, and a mind-bogglingly stupid one at that?

The Causes for Which a President Can Be Impeached

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1867/01/the-causes-for-which-a-president-can-be-impeached/548144/

https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/artII-S4-1-1/ALDE_00000282/

Are you saying any of that would stop the swamp from impeaching Trump if he was presiding over the current disaster right now? Are you saying you and the usual suspects here would not be screaming for impeachment? Seriously?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

here are some facts ;

The Taliban were ruling Afghanistan prior to 9/11 and nobody cared much about them until their guest, a certain Mr. Usama Bin Laden, organized a terror attack on US soil.

When Al Qaeda’s leader hid in Afghanistan and the Taliban refused to extradite him, the West invaded the country to get the guy.

Let’s make it clear: US soldiers did not go to Afghanistan to make it possible for women to go to school or to vote.

And the several hundreds of non-governmental organizations went there later only to get a piece of the international donations cake.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

What was Biden thinking? Now, girls will be prevented from going to school and sold as child brides and they will brainwash the youth with their radical form of Islam and probably increase the likelihood of another terrorist attack on US or European soil all in the name of "Allah". These people are illiterate and don't even understand the true meaning of Jihad. Jihad is a war within yourself to grow and face your demons, not a war against others.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

These people are illiterate and don't even understand the true meaning of Jihad. Jihad is a war within yourself to grow and face your demons, not a war against others.

Historically it has been both a war within yourself and an outer war against perceived injustice. You can’t ignore the latter nor write it off as illiteracy.

The Taliban didn’t come up with this. I doubt they have the imagination.

CNN is partisan left. Fake news. Not to be trusted. Remember what you’ve been telling us.

Be consistent.

Donald Trumps deal was a non starter. The release of the five thousand terrorists was frankly remarkable.

No sooner than the ink was dry the Taliban put those religious crazies five thousand to work.

I cannot comprehend why President Biden just didn't bin the entire deal, and phase the withdrawal through Bagram air base. Of course this would have meant allot more resources. However the end would have justified the means.

-In 2017, Trump stated he was going to bring home all the troops from Afghanistan. It's on public record.

Where you get your talking points from? Yes, getting out of Afghanistan was part of his policy platform and completely correct. It is one of the many reasons the swamp hates him.

-So now you actually believe you can trust the Taliban. They are an extreme Islamic group who believe 100% in Sharia Law above all other laws.

Of course they are. And Trump knows this and knows how to talk with them, with a realistic threat against their clans in the background. It was Biden who not only trusted them, but even trusted them after stopping to talk to them and remove any leverage over them. Good grief.

None of this is an impeachable offence.

Oh, you are claiming that if the current disaster with people falling from planes had unfolded under Trump, the media would not be screaming from rooftops and impeachment procedures would not be under way? In what universe??

Cognitive dissonance? The poster was showing how fake CNN news is, not suggesting to believe it. Are snarky combacks more important than actually reading a message?

If these images represent the realities on the ground, the global community collectivity shares the blame.

No, the "global community" has nothing to do with this disaster, created by a succession of misguided US administrations, and its completely bungled end, brought to you by Joe Bidens handlers.

Most countries are not involved in this at all, so do not try to spread blame.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

You can see what coming, the midterm US elections, the media vultures both left and right are circling.

On the Right the headline.....The First US President that surrenders to Taliban, Al-Qaeda Terrorists.

On the Left ...Biden betrayal to every women's quote right to live free from violence and discrimination; to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn an equal wage.

Why would such desperation demand Afghans cling to a C-17 in the vain hope of salvation. if for one moment that believed a word these Taliban terrorist's retched and heaved.

I would gladly pay whatever in takes to snuff the Taliban out.

Permanently.

Having seen the photos of those in charge, it’s like Lord of the Rings an Angry Thoren Okenshieid and his group of angry Dwarves. They are really angry women are taller them. But like lice hard to get rid off, impervious to education.

WilliB, I frankly don't know what to believe.

I think the closure of the Bagram air base could have been the deal breaker.

Ill-conceived, with the benefit of hindsight.

If one is The President of the United States of America you must lead.

You must own the space, and take charge of the events unfolding.

No President of the United States of America can allow themselves to be handled.

Reason of removal: Offensive / Vulgar

The Taliban should have been wiped off the face of the earth by the coalition forces, why they didn't do that is beyond my comprehension.

Moderator: Calling for anyone to be wiped off the face of the earth is disgusting, as you very well know.

So, you're OK with this then:

A graphic photo of what is believed to be a woman who was shot and killed by the Taliban for not wearing a burqa has sparked global fear for the safety of Afghan people.

The image of a woman lying in a pool of blood on the ground as her parents crouch beside her was published by Fox News on Wednesday (local time), the same day the Taliban vowed to respect women’s rights.

At a park in Kabul, transformed since last week into a shelter for the displaced, families told the Associated Press on Friday girls riding home in a motorised rickshaw in the northern Takhar province were stopped and lashed for wearing “revealing sandals".

"I don't think it was a failure," the President said in an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, referring to a US pullout that sparked scenes of desperate Afghans clinging to, and falling to their deaths from, US evacuation planes.

Funny thing is a majority of Americans support US pulling out of Afghanistan.

As usual the right wing picked up a loser cause!!!

President Biden need to own this there is no escape.

President Biden, needs to humbly reach out, in his own words the buck stops with me.

So own it, consider alternatives no matter how personally politically humiliating.

U-Turn, send in full force.

Reclaim Bagram air and this time demand that NATO and EU matches it rhetoric.

"Biden isnt adequately explaining why he failed to predict Afghanistan's fast fall.

He no longer gets credit simply for not being Trump."

CNN said THAT too.

Seems Joe Biden will be held responsible for the harsh conditions the Afghan women are now subjected to.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Err.... did you read the quote? CNN claimed that the shouts of "death to America" were "friendly".

Yes I read it, and it didn’t.

Did you read it?

In a comment under yesterday's story on women's rights under the Taliban I read the following comment:

Apparently many people in Afghanistan reject gender study symposiums, or the idea that men can become pregnant.

It seems that allowing women to show their faces in public is just the thin edge of the wedge to the horrors of a gender study symposium.

I noticed something of a shift from a number of alt-right posters to being somewhat more sympathetic to the Taliban.

I cannot comprehend why President Biden just didn't bin the entire deal

But BIden DID bin the deal! And set a unilateral withdrawal date, announcing to the other side, who he was not speaking to, to still abide it. Insanity.

In the even, I don´t think Biden himself decided this or anything else. It is his handlers who created the disaster.

Maybe you didn't understand the whole thing, repasting from your post

Clarissa Ward and her team have more courage than all the right wing nuts put together.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

WilliB, Only the global community can right this wrong, together.

This is the ultimate test

We can huff six at Trump, and half a dozen at Biden.

Neither angry huff puffs, will save lives.

If freedom, basic human rights, justice is to be served, then it a matter for every country that values democracy.

That means globally we will have to fight for it.

To ask USA Government and people to pay and fight, put lives on the line, for freedom and choice, that we have all taken for granted is over.

I won't blame President Biden for that

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It does not seem that Biden (or rather his handlers) were thinking much, other than "everything Trump-related must be reversed"

ROFL, the former guy wanted to sign a peace deal with your friendly taliban. He said they were peaceful people.

He wanted the taliban to nominate him for a Nobel, so in that sense yes President Biden has reversed things.

He does not want the taliban to give the former guy a Nobel!!!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The poster was showing how fake CNN news.

Nothing in that post proves fake news, just proves CNN has the courage to report what is happening.

Sometimes it is better to read something before posting, ROFL.

Clarissa Ward asked the taliban some tough questions, the right wing nuts would be shaking in their shoes if they came in presence of taliban, ROFL.
