The gentleman is what is known as a "flight risk."

Strauss-Kahn is tight with prominent American socialists like Obama so I think he will skate free.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out because of the high profile and the other women coming forward. Perhaps might doesn't make right.

All depends on the behind-the-scenes negotiations. Doubt he'll suffer that much, this is a fat cat we're talking about!

Doubt he'll suffer that much,

He was the favorite to win next year's presidential elections, and France's only hope to make sure the right-wing extremists didn't stand a chance, but now all that is gone... so yes he will suffer that much, and so will France!!!

Was that his well know Flashing Black Rain Coat?

Another wealthy, high profile degenerate who is "in the club." I do wonder how he will "get away" with this, but there is no doubt he will. Perhaps Obama will pardon him the way Clinton pardoned the fugitive, Mark Rich. At least he will never get near presidency now.

The IMF had a bad name long before this guy came along.

Strauss-Khan will be held in protective custody in the city’s Rikers Island jail because of his high profile, said city Correction Department spokesman Stephen Morello. Unlike most prisoners, who share 50-bed barracks, Strauss-Kahn will have a single-bed cell and eat all his meals alone there. Also, when he is outside his cell, he will have a prison-guard escort.

"High profile" is read as "rich" now. Do they really think the average person in Rikers Island knows who he is? The message they're basically sending is: if you're a rich criminal, you get this kind of treatment.

All men created equal, eh? If they are going to do that, why didn't they just let him live under house arrest in the hotel??

If only he'd been put in the Rikers general population he could have had all the sex he wanted, and more!

Why is he accused of attempted rape only? It seems to me she was raped orally? Does that not count? It should!

Castrate him. Then jail him and put him in with the general population. After a year, if he survives, hang him. Seems to be what some advocate for lesser sex crime. Don't know why I hear the crickets chirping on this one.

Jeez, thankfully - I'm in the mindset that believes in the presumption of innocence. Despite the facts being albiet against the fella, people like you are scary, lucky.

Ironically, if the jerk had been in France (and a woman had pressed charges)then French jurisprudence is guilty until proven innocent. Since he got caught in the USA he is innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately for him there is, apparently, blood from the assault involved. In the US that would be considered evidence that the victim fought back. The fact that they arrested the guy on a plane trying to leave the country didn't help either. He may be getting special treatment at Rikers - wouldn't want the rapist to be raped, would we - but he's got a big mess on his hands and I'm starting to doubt that he's going to get away with it.

That is the "criminal sexual act" (aka sodomy) charge. Perhaps NY is a little behind the times.
