Mr Kipling
I look to a future without a royal family.

"No other country could put on such a dazzling display - the processions, the pageantry, the ceremonies, and street parties," Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said. "It's a proud expression of our history, culture, and traditions. A vivid demonstration of the modern character of our country. And a cherished ritual through which a new era is born."
How can I word this, without derivation away from the Coronation day.
Rishi Sunak has been delivered a sound and brutal message in local elections held on Thursday.
To use this occasion to make or associate, political insinuate, score political points is despicable.

Where are the Pearly Kings and Queens? I haven't seen any in the reports. And the Cloggies where are they? It is May after all. Nationalists will be out in force, flag-waving.
Are the royal staff given the day off? Expect not.
This firm is worth £25 billion and this will be its biggest day since the last coronation.
Back then we the children all got a special spoon.
Got the Quiche and Tofu chocolate cake and wine ready.

Having a monarch because "that's the way it has always been" is a great way to show how "forward thinking" your country is.
People would do well to actually study the horrific history of what this monarchy has actually done, before blindly worshiping the ground they walk on.

Public opinion on the royals doesn’t indicate widespread obsession.
Most are indifferent.
A bit harsh. He’s doing what politicians do. He must be delighted this is diverting the attention of some away from the hiding his party has just taken.
Starmer’s doing his flag-waving bit to ensure he doesn’t frighten more moderate voters off.
Farage has been the most critical of Charles in the past. He’ll still probably get leathered.

Monarchy is a strange concept for nations that elect a head of state.
Worst still is the request to swear allegiance.
It is essential to park that notion.
UK historic need or requirement to/for a constitutional monarchy is tempered by a parliamentary system that has total control over of the country's primary legislation.
Jimizo
To be fair, the majority don’t.
I know I’m labouring the point here but there does seem to be a myth out there that UK people obsess over or ‘blindly worship’ the royals.
These types are clearly a minority.

Jimizo, it is harsh, however I would assert/maintain that all politicians should take their place with the people, if they wished to commemorate the Coronation.
They might actually be able to witness and learn the disparity republicans and the supporters of the Monarchy up close and personal.
The harsh reality the ever expanding gap from the UK haves or have nots.
Damn it, I have fallen into the political black hole I pledged to avoid.

Tonight, the FA have requested Liverpool play the national anthem which was booed last time.

I didn’t read anything particularly bad in that Sunak quote. Just standard conservative bollocks you hear from leaders on occasions like this.
Farage will be probably be legless by about 3 and might come up with something more interesting and offensive on Twitter.
Powder-puff opportunism from Sunak there. He’s just doing his job…or maybe just trying to keep it after Thursday.

These kinds of things are basically all that Britain has left now. It's positioned itself as some absurd comedy, like Monty Python was some kind of design for living or something.

Jimizo, indeed, may I leave your comment the last word.
I struggling a tad.
My next door neighbors have flags and a union jack table clothes for tonight's fun and games
I hadn't anticipated such a reaction, and I feel, well letting the side down.
Still the food and drink should set the occasion.
I am not a flaggy person to be honest.

Bar Humbug, even Scrooge would be in the majority,in condemning the excess of this coronation, they do not really want Harry there, but the optics would not look right,it gonna be hard to compete with Cinco de Mayo this weekend in America

So grateful for the streaming services, I can completely skip the coverage of this event that do not interest me at all.

Well, it does look like beautiful British weather. The wife was watching it and thought it was a movie at first. All those extras and horses and legions of police. She liked the horses.
I don’t think Charles has the likability his mother had with people. But, it doesn’t matter. Let them eat cake.
Fredrik
Well, a monarchy is by definition an autocracy, just like dictatorships. It is the opposite of democracy. But still a nice tradition I guess...

Interesting fact: according to the Democracy Index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, in their 2018 survey, four out of the top five democracies in the world were monarchies

Were they constitutional monarchies with royals having no political power? If so, that would just be coincidence and not a reason, right?
theResident
What an amazing ceremony for those watching. True hope.
Stephen
It would be great if the royal family was more transparent about the vast wealth it has squirrelled away. All the inheritance taxes that we mere mortals have to pay, etc are clearly taboo to those born with the ‘divine right’ on their side!

More Brits are watching this than watch the World Cup.
Moonraker
Far too much christianity involved.
wallace
More people are watching around the world than the Super Bowel. We have survived the first half. Put the kettle on.
Yrral
Wallace, could you be watching it, because it bring back child hood memory as a subject
wallace
How many watched the Super Bowel, mostly Americans?
Approximately 200 million viewers -- 60% of all people in the United States
How many watching the coronation?
More than 3 billion.
wallace
Yrra
we are watching because my Japanese spouse wants to, so I would not be cruel to deny that.
wallace
The same claim could be made in your other comment about watching the World Cup.
wallace
1-in-5 spectators on the route are Americans who flew in to watch it.
wallace
4,000 troops watching in step, Americans cheering.
