Arizona Rep. Martha McSally. But she is running for the Senate seat vacated by Sen. Jeff Flake, who, like McCain, outraged the state's conservative base for bucking Trump on immigration and other issues.

You might want to recheck that statement - I'm calling BS on that. Seriously, McSally has been one of Trump's most loyal Congressional lieutenants in the House of Representatives, even to the point of not even mentioning McCain's name on a huge military spending bill named after him just a couple of weeks ago (https://twitter.com/MeghanMcCain/status/1029962768860864512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) - only to have McSally use the "fake news" defense to claim that it wasn't true.

Just find another un-indicted co-conspirator like the president. GOP is full of them

Weasel, I think that the awkwardly worded sentence meant to say that Flake outraged the conservative base by bucking Trump, not McSally.

Ward speculated on Facebook that the McCain family announced the senator was ending medical treatment on Friday to distract from her final push in the primary.

Oh, so everything is about her. Yuck. Just what no one needs, another politician certain that the world revolves around herself.

"Do I appoint a caretaker or do I appoint someone who will stand for election?" Cole asked. "Does he choose from the family?"

((Oops. hit post before I finished typing.))

"Do I appoint a caretaker or do I appoint someone who will stand for election?" Cole asked. "Does he choose from the family?"

Question one - a very good (reasonable) question.

Questions two - WTF? The family? Is this a monarchy? a dynasty? How ridiculous is that?

uh no the person does NOT come from “the McCain family”

In Arizona, Meghan McCain is being mentioned along with Jon Kyl. If being able to defend the seat is a consideration, Kyl is unlikely to run again, and Shadegg is prospering in the private sector and hasn't run a race in a decade. I doubt Cindy McCain has the chops either.

This seat was held before McCain by Barry Goldwater. There is no one of comparable stature in Arizona right now.

Meghan is a possibility. Ducey himself is a political hack. It will be interesting to see what he does.

Trump twittered a statement that could have been copy-pasted, and then pasted it on a photograph of himself.

There are reasons why he has been disinvited from McCain's funeral (something unprecedented but deserved).

And the question of what a post-Trump GOP resemble is still on nobody's lips as fear prevents its utterance. This appointment could further or hinder the party. But it's Arizona, not the stablest of states.

Not any other party "tool."

Someone able to actually do what is best for Arizona and the country would be good.

No matter what decision is made, lots of people will be unhappy, so get over it.

I read that the man-child specifically requested that the White House make no official statement about McCain's death. Is he trying to make the Republicans lose Arizona in the next election? Hell, I see Texas flipping too, at this rate.

"But naming someone with dramatically different views from McCain could be viewed as disrespectful to McCain's legacy"

McCain's legacy is nowhere near as important as doing what is right for Arizona and the USA.

I understand that the flag at the White House has already returned from half mast to normal - Trump wouldn't allow it to remain until the funeral. Petty vindictiveness even in death.

Nicre, Serrano. It's easier to skip past nutty YouTube links than listen to you try to come up with original content.

One good thing from the election is that Arpaio is heading towards the garbage can, where he belongs.

True - but most states haven’t had Senators even close to their stature either. I liked McCain mainly because of his and his family’s service record. He was a rather mediocre legislator and presidential candidate. He had a major ethical lapse early in his Senate career and was prone to being petty as was seen in his overly dramatized saving of Obamacare after having just run for re-election promising to get rid of it - all just to stick it to Trump. None of that however much dims his contributions to the country.

The governor of Arizona would be well advised to skip the nepotism and select someone who would be best suited to help his party hold the seat in 2020. Western Republicans are different from those on the east coast and so he should therefore refrain from taking the advice of those in Washington.

Super: "Nicre ( Nice ), Serrano. It's easier to skip past nutty YouTube links than listen to you try to come up with original content."

If you bothered to watch the "nutty" youtube link you might learn something. Plenty of JT posters have simply posted links relevant to the topic without making a separate comment, and I did that in my last post. You want a separate comment? OK - you liberals never liked the warmonger John McCain until he turned against Trump, and now you love him. You gonna deny that?
