U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday condemned the poison of white supremacy and said the nation must “reject the lie” of the racist “replacement theory" espoused by the shooter who murdered 10 black Americans in Buffalo.

White supremacy's greatest threat was the removal of the economic opportunities of African-Americans through slavery, Jim Crow, targeted violence like burning down the "Black Wall Street"

Biden will not address this though. Dr. King later focused on this before his assassination with his "Socialism for the Rich" speech.

The economic gap that many African-Americans suffer from is even more prevalent than the violence.

This is what people mean when they say the dems never let a good crises go to waste. Just political grandstanding and nothing more. How do I know? Remember when pressed about why Biden wouldn’t be visiting the victims and their families in Wisconsin after the Christmas parade racially motivated tragedy; and Psaki replied that it would require too much time and resources for the president to visit? I remember.

Ahh, so you're not upset about Democrats "never letting a crisis go to waste." No, you're just upset at Biden for visiting the wrong place, for putting the wrong shooting in the spotlight.

I’m upset that Biden has proven himself, in my eyes, to be a racist on numerous occasions and yet he still gets a pass and even gets to exploit racism for political gains. These are just my opinions, however.

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

I will say, though, that watching Biden’s speech, I was touched as I felt his sincerity come through in between the awkward pauses and continuous tennis-match-style head turnings as he tried to keep up with the tele… as he clearly stated what was obviously sitting heavy on his heart.

No it exactly isn't that and you illustrate what Dr. King was referring to.

It is talking about disaster capitalism, such as pandemic stimulus profiteering.

This misdirection is exactly what Dr. King was referring to.

Bizarre how the 'de-whitening' of America is celebrated at the same time it's denied

Bingo!

That’s on the Democrats, but good question.

Bizarre how the 'de-whitening' of America is celebrated at the same time it's denied

No one is denying that America is becoming more diverse. What people are denying is a conspiracy by one group of people to replace whites with minorities. That is the "replacement theory," and that is absurd.

At any rate, I'm not sure why Americans should be concerned about becoming more diverse, unless, of course, one feels minorities are inferior.

Wonder why he couldn't make time to visit Dallas and Waukesha, scenes of other horrific shootings?

2 ( +9 / -7 )

The poor, manipulated, weak-minded young man who committed this atrocity will no doubt be convicted of this horrible tragedy.

Only possibility is life sentence in NY. So he will be able to have a place to sleep, grab 3 meals and a hot shower for the rest of his life as it traumatizes the families for perhaps the rest of their lives. Justice served?

Capital punishment is wrong and doesn’t deter anyone.

He’ll be traumatized daily for the rest of his life, US prison is no holiday camp.

Cheney, in a tweet on Monday, said the caucus' leadership “has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism. History has taught us that what begins with words ends in far worse.”

I disagree with almost every policy position she holds, but she is right about this. I suspect there are plenty of Republicans who privately agree with this statement but are too afraid of the MAGA mob to say so.

Bizarre how the 'de-whitening' of America is celebrated at the same time it's denied

It’s the same thinking that vilifies white flight on one hand and gentrification on the other; that men can get pregnant, yet men have no right to speak in the abortion argument; guns ammo to Ukraine are good; but lawful Americans exercising their 2nd amendment right is bad; and so on.

Nope, high profile criminals are coddled in U.S. prisons if regarded to being in imminent danger which he will be. Let the families decide what is wrong and what isn't: being killed while grocery shopping or being killed for killing 10 innocent people.

What "great replacement"? Right wants us to shut up about Buffalo shooter's ideology

https://www.salon.com/2022/05/17/what-great-replacement-right-wants-us-to-shut-up-about-buffalo-shooters-ideology/

"Wailing about persecution and unfairness is the right's go-to move whenever its leading voices are forced to actually answer for the reality of their belief system, and the fallout from Saturday's shooting is no different. The more noise they make to distract you, the more worried they are that people are beginning to pay attention to what they actually say."

let a good crises go to waste.

"Good crises"? I'm aware of the meme, but in the case of the Buffalo shooting, I can see nothing 'good', but then I do not use words the same way the alt right do. Instead of focusing on the shooting and trying to understand what all has led some individuals like the shooter in the USA so far down the deep rat's hole it's in, the alt right attack a leader doing something leaders should do, which is show their regard for a community of fellow American citizens, including those who have long been relegated to lower status, especially by dangerous individuals like this thug, claiming to represent extremist positions held by many in his ethnic community.

Let the families decide what is wrong and what isn't: being killed while grocery shopping or being killed for killing 10 innocent people.

A court and judge will decide his fate. The Wild West isn’t over but we don’t need lynchings and mob justice.

even gets to exploit racism for political gains.

Unfortunately for him, the vote for me and my party to avoid white supremacy card isn't going to work this time as the economy goes down the toilet.

President Biden was responsible for some of the laws supporting the war on drugs and mass incarceration, such as the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986 and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, both of which disproportionately affected black people.

The 1986 law led to huge racial disparities in incarceration (given that black people generally receive harsher penalties than white people for the same crimes - according to the US Sentencing Commission in 2017), and the Violent Crime Act toughened sentencing and increased prison funding.

He is right to show up here and condemn the white supremacist Replacement Theory, but he still has a lot of work to do in improving the lives of minorities in America.

"Wailing about persecution and unfairness is the right's go-to move whenever its leading voices are forced to actually answer for the reality of their belief system,

Belief system??? We do have televisions, maybe not gold-plated, but we have them, we kind of don’t need this odd guy in the Oval Office to try and spin a narrative that no one is buying. Again, the Dems are going to get crushed and the Dems still think this administration can dig itself the lies and hole it dug itself in.

and the fallout from Saturday's shooting is no different. The more noise they make to distract you,

Like the guy that mowed down all those innocent white people that the left tried to make excuses that it wasn’t a racist attack when he specifically made videos about his hatred towards whites, shove that under the rug, no big deal, just a bunch of whites being killed. This shooter, DEFCON 9!

the more worried they are that people are beginning to pay attention to what they actually say."

Yes, for once you’re right people see it and that’s why the Dems are going to have to update their resumes this winter.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

he will wait for the next shooting that matches his narratives to happen while doing nothing.

What do you recommend he do? Ban guns? Fix racism? US is too broken for either to happen. You know this.

Odd that conservatives here haven't given their position on white replacement theory. WilliB used to post about it several times a week.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

exercising their 2nd amendment right is bad; and so on.

I don't ever recall reading or hearing the 2nd Amendment allowed people to form a militia of one to gun down innocent individuals because they were not from the shooter's ethnic background.

Well, it’s a fact, you can add blacks to the list as well. The left hope you don’t see this.

Now is the time if any to push through gun reform if Biden has a set..

In the US the executive branch is just one part of decision making, Biden is not Mugabe/Putin, Biden has to work with the courts and congress, and hope the unofficial 4th branch of government, which includes many gun rights extremists and other thugs, do not use their violent tactics to try to subvert the decision making process. US systems have been weakened by being constantly attacked and undermined from within the country as well as by foreign nations.

Bass: Belief system???

Yes. I think it's no accident that we see a rise is right-wing media and politicians nodding and winking at these groups and them going mainstream. Do you think it's coincidence?

And when you have members of the GOP openly supporting WRT views I also think that makes these people come out of the woodwork.

And when you have Fox News spouting support for these nonsense theories, call me crazy but they might be included in the discussion.

Look, just set aside the murders and tell me the bigger story here is liberal hypocrisy. It's the only spot your roulette wheel lands on.

Yes. I think it's no accident that we see a rise is right-wing media

Not nearly to the level as the left

and politicians nodding and winking at these groups and them going mainstream. Do you think it's coincidence?

For saying that men are men and women are women and that there are only 2 sexes? Yeah, downright racist, but no, it’s not a coincidence.

And when you have members of the GOP openly supporting WRT

…as well as BRT that’s on the rise. Yes, it’s a serious problem, but try and focus for a moment, the open border is at this present time the most serious issue that is destroying this administration and his minions will do nothing to stop it. So blacks and whites will be replaced by low-skilled foreign workers that give the US what benefit?

And when you have Fox News spouting support for these nonsense theories, call me crazy but they might be included in the discussion.

I digress, lol, but I will say, these are not nonsense theories, that’s why Schumer is p*ssed that he can’t shut Fox down and control the narrative because the polls are showing that people are just not believing a word coming out of this administrations mouth and why would you?

Look, just set aside the murders and tell me the bigger story here is liberal hypocrisy. It's the only spot your roulette wheel lands on.

No, we can talk about the liberal hypocrisies that coincide with the murders sadly and that’s the sad thing about all this and the left lost all their cards, played their hand and blew up their narrative.

And at the end of the day, we see that Republicans don't want to do anything, and the Democrats make empty promises and are basically useless. Two cheeks of the same ass. Save your tots and pears. And are we going to discuss the killer and his Black Sun emblem?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Bass, I was surprised to hear that you believe in WRT. You think there are powers that be who are intentionally thinning out the white race to win elections?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

And are we going to discuss the killer and his Black Sun emblem?

Tell us about it. I know that it's a nazi symbol. The shooter also had the n-word painted on his gun. His motivations are no secret.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

And at the end of the day, we see that Republicans don't want to do anything,

…and besides a photo op with the President, what will they do? If you go by their history when it comes to these issues….not a lot.

and the Democrats make empty promises and are basically useless.

True

Two cheeks of the same ass.

Well, from the Washington establishment point, that’s not entirely false.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

And are we going to discuss the killer and his Black Sun emblem?

We already know the perp is a neo-Nazi. Let's not turn this into yet another anti-Ukrainian screed.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Odd that conservatives here haven't given their position on white replacement theory.

Not odd that the liberals here think Black lives only matter if the trigger is pulled by a white man.
