Kaepernick on July Fourth: 'We reject your celebration of white supremacy'

Black ppl have been dehumanized, brutalized, criminalized + terrorized by America for centuries, & are expected to join your commemoration of “independence”, while you enslaved our ancestors. We reject your celebration of white supremacy & look forward to liberation for all.

I’m tired of paying taxes so others can stay home.”

And this is the bottom line!

Trump appeals to hardworking Americans who support the status quo ie the majority, and unlike those with a focus on pulling down statues....

-13 ( +7 / -20 )

Why did the taxpayers pay for this jaunt? Because it was clearly a campaign event, and not a presidential address.

15 ( +20 / -5 )

The best part is that by Trump taking the strong position against agitators, rioters, looters, leftists, criminals and other enemies such as Antifa and BLM.......Biden has no choice now but to signal his support for them.

The US as I have said before may well be headed for civil strife even war, this time it wont be north - south, no one will have any idea where its coming from.

The US is looking scarier & scarier, I really hope this sheer idiocy can be turned around, otherwise the US could end up like Zimbabwe!

“We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and the people who, in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing,” he said. "We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children.

"And we will defend, protect and preserve (the) American way of life, which began in 1492 when Columbus discovered America.”

Right on, Mr. President!

Trump-Pence 2020 all the way!

A nation is a nation because its people, its citizens are united awith the same or similar ideals and objectives and and work together without harming each other or mutual benefit and protect that nation from destruction by forces within and without. To keep it sustained and growing in a meaningful and organized manner there are laws and those who make sure the laws are fair, reasonable, meaningful effective and enforceable. To prevent destruction by outside forces, there are migration (immigration) laws and such forces as the military. It is also imperative that the people of the nation understand and appreciate the intent and value of that nation's existence by understanding its history and the correct as well as the wrong ideas and actions that sustained and allowed that nation to continue and survive.

Trump actually said all that with multitudes of past and present historical facts with one simple statement "One Nation Under God". Whether you believe in God or not, the point is that in the "eyes" of all Humanity and the entire Universe, it is ONE NATION and it must stay "one" (united and together even with differences).

"These wannabe history rewriters and current day people cancelers and conversation shutdowners are vermin." Right. Trump really brings out the best in people, doesn't he?

This has got to be the Fourth of July from hell. The U.S. is in the world's worst pandemic. People are becoming sick and poor by the minute. The U.S. is engaged in a useless and self-destructive two decade long war. Racist cops are killing Black, Native and Hispanics. The environment is a mess.

And here is Trump full of the sound and the fury signifying that he is both preposterous and dangerous.

17 ( +22 / -5 )

On a day meant for unity and celebration, President Donald Trump vowed to “safeguard our values” from enemies within — leftists, looters, agitators, he said — in a Fourth of July speech packed with all the grievances and combativeness of his political rallies.

Pure hate speech - and you know he doesn't believe a word of it - just theater for his angry, racist base...

“We are now in the process of defeating the radical left, the anarchists, the agitators, the looters, and the people who, in many instances, have absolutely no clue what they are doing,” he said. "We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children.

Hmmm..... Over 800 Americans passed away from COVID yesterday on July 4th. I'm sure those folks and their families are real glad those iron and bronze statues are safe...

Confirmed cases were climbing in 40 states, and the U.S. set another record Friday with 52,300 newly reported infections, according to the tally kept by Johns Hopkins University. Trump did not dwell on the pandemic in his remarks Saturday evening. Instead, he declared that “our country is in great shape.”

"Great shape". Dementia is such a sad thing to watch...

Time for a trip to the golf course, right Mr President?

"We will never allow an angry mob to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children.”

But you will allow whites to indocrinate their children to the false history of the US that is taught in schools.

You talk about "white" history, but you dont talk about the history of all the people in the US!

12 ( +16 / -4 )

So the war is against normal Americans.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Great speech from a great President!

-20 ( +3 / -23 )

No, even half of the people who actively hate Trump likely agree with him on this topic.

Normal Americans dont support rioters, looters, agitators, BLM/Antifa attacking people in the streets, defunding the police, stealing from stores, burning the flag and claiming the 4th of July is a "celebration of white supremacy".

So the war is against normal Americans.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

For most people, there is nothing much to look forward to in celebrating the national day, as the grand firework could hardly brighten their dark nights under a self-proclaimed dictator in a supposedly democratic nation..

4 ( +6 / -2 )

“POTUS said it would go away,” Lee said of the pandemic, using an acronym for president of the United States. “Masks, I think, are like a hoax.”

Was this person dribbling by any chance?

At the trump rally at Mt. Rushmore paid by the taxpayers. I saw all the White trump supporters chanting at Native Americans "Go Back Where you Came From". That is the idiotic logic of most trump supporters!

Why should African-Americans whose ancestors were slaves celebrate Independence when their people were still slaves on July 4th 1776. Great Britain ended slavery before the US. The US kept slavery alive longer than their European counterparts. They even had a war to keep it.

If America was still a colony of the UK, Blacks would have been freed sooner!

What's cool about the guy is that he makes enemies.

I mean, he doesn't just imagine them. He actually creates them.

I feel like I'm a good example. I never trusted him. I never supported him. I always opposed him. So okay, but I always thought of Republicans as a loyal opposition -- something to push into a minority, but not something that needed eradication.

Until now.

Someone for got to tell the right........................... and the president!

President Donald Trump vowed to “safeguard our values” from enemies within — leftists, looters, agitators, he said — in a Fourth of July speech packed with all the grievances and combativeness of his political rallies.

Oh.........................!

1 ( +3 / -2 )

A chilling part of that speech was his idea of 10-year prison sentences for damaging statues and the applause it received.

This is sinister.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

"And we will defend, protect and preserve (the) American way of life, which began in 1492 when Columbus discovered America.”

For hundreds of years following 1492, the Europeanized part of the USA was a colony (!!!) that paid taxes to European countries like England, France, and Spain. Was that more "American" than the Native Americans living freely on their own land?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I get it it TRUMP doesn’t always say the right thing and someone should take away his twitter account. But the alternative is so much worse and the sad thing is young people are so indoctrinated, clueless about history, socialism, Marxism, that they can’t see what a dangerous road they travel. They should go protest in Hong Kong just to get a taste. Cmon, just try it for the experience.

I expected Trump to start a war somewhere in order to boost his re-election in true Republican style. I didn't expect him to do it on his own people.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

People support Trump because he gives every people HOPE, esp. those who don't stand a chance in succeeding in our current economic and social climate - bigots, racists, uneducated... Under Trump, we are all equal. Who cares if you're an expert in your field? A medical doctor and a high school dropout have equally valid opinions with regards to medicine under Trump's presidency.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I don’t think anyone except the people that hate America object to the address.

Columbus did not discover America! What an idiot!

He did in the sense that Europeans of that “era” had not seen that part of the world and like the people of that time colonized it and we know the rest of history, so as it stands, the nation of the United States of America ultimately was discovered by Columbus.

Exactly! And a Biden Presidency will be the opposite in every way.

Just take a trip to DTLA, there's your answer.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Acknowledging history does not mean rewriting it.

But it requires self-reflection and sometimes this exercise hurts. This is the only way to grow.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Good Lord, he sounds like some wonky 3rd world Despot at the podium.

Oh, wait.....

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Always thought the 4tht July was a day of unity, a day to address all peoples, all races.

The President did exactly that and the people that hate him and the country howled cries of outrage......as usual....

Not a day for political speeches. A day to put aside the differences and seek the common shared.

Sad thing is, when you see what liberals and anarchists have done over the last three weeks to wipe away our history and culture it’s hard to put anything aside, particularly an attack on the US itself.

All taxpayers, including myself have a right to voice their opinion on how its used and that isn't anti American.

As well as others like myself that support for keeping and protecting our culture beliefs and heritage

The native American discovered the continent. Columbus never discovered America because it didn't exist when he too discovered the continent.

No, Columbus discovered what we know call the USA. No one is disputing that the natives were here thousands of years, we know that, but what we celebrate in the US as a nation, a sovereign nation that won our independence from the British, that is the day we celebrate to even imply that this is wrong is not up for debate, we can’t undo what our forefathers had done hundreds of years ago that 90% people that was the norm. That goes for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, most of Africa, the Middle East. If people don’t like it, they don’t have to celebrated and they are people that don’t, for example I don’t celebrate Halloween and everyone has the right to do that, but people don’t have the right to disrupt it a tear up and dismantle our culture.

I can see the attraction in this. Many people felt talked down to by Obama and complained that he thought he was the smartest guy in the room. These insecure people failed to deal with the reality that he is smarter than the vast, vast majority of people and is usually the smartest guy in the room. That’s life. Get over it.

Trump spouting off about climate change being a hoax created by the Chinese, talking about injecting disinfectant and prefixing widely known facts with ‘not many people know that...’ does give some reassurance to people who want to spout off with half-baked facts and conspiracy theories after a skinful at the bar.

Let me show you the hypocrisy in your whole argument during the 4th of July no less:

The boston tea party was a historical moment that we’re taught in school when people rioted and protested against tax on tea. Now people are doing the same over the murder of an unarmed black man and suddenly it’s unethical and unamerican. Spot the difference for me.

LOL!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

How did The U.S. wind up with senior Democrats that have been in office for 30 to 50 plus years, blaming a man that has been in politics for only three years on all the problems we see right now? Go figure. Keep voting for those do-nothing professional talkers. They got you bent fools.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

The anthem protests, kneeling and flag burning weren’t about hating America we were told.

Ok I expect white players to kneel during the supposed “black national anthem” to highlight school choice. Not about disrespect just a time to kneel for any cause you like.

today we found the truth. Just pure hatred of America from Kaepernick words. and now it’s slavery and white supremacy as the complaint not police brutality.

I'm glad that you get so much encouragement from what's either the deluded ramblings of a senile old man or a shabby political point-scoring tactic on what's supposed to be a day of national celebration.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

no its not unethical or unamerican. The resulting rioting, looting, property damage and violence against police are.

doing all this during a pandemic where everyone else was staying home and not even working or meeting family members to prevent the spread of the virus.

Now people are doing the same over the murder of an unarmed black man and suddenly it’s unethical and unamerican

When did Columbus discover the continent of America?

Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502.

Yes.

When was America formed,

4th July 1776.

How can anyone claim Columbus discovered America?

Yes. As I said, I don’t celebrate Halloween, if you don’t like celebrating the 4th don’t. Millions will and will continue, but every individual has to right to bail out.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

you claim the exact opposite when you support 400 years of slavery in the "United States", dont you?

When was America formed,

4th July 1776.

How can anyone claim Columbus discovered America?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

America was never discovered, it was formed.

That in itself is a discovery.

So what does the 4th July have to do with Columbus?

Because he discovered America.

I skim over the kind of crap you continually come out with and it makes me glad I'm neither American nor conservative.

Then you wouldn’t have asked what my opinion is.

Then again, even if I were I don't suppose I'd have to worry about being embarrassed by association with a boring online nobody like you.

Boring, but a self-made unapologetic rich American.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

@Black

More faulty logic to keep the conversation going for the right! There is no either-or situation. The US founded on racism, hatred, and greed. They still exist in the country today.

When do people have to be outraged at only one type social injustice? You current presidents spreads hatred and divisiveness and whines about all types of injustices against him all the time.

Why don't you tell trump to pick one?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

He didn't discover America

Yes, he did, Hispaniola and subsequently the US as we celebrate us being is directly attributed because of Columbus, so whether you want to debate intentional or purposely is fine, but there is no disputing the land that we now call the US is because of the man that we cherish and that’s Columbus and not Leif Erickson.
