Biden ought to unilaterally return to the status quo ante, then wait for Iran to also return to compliance. The United States broke the agreement. We are in no position to make additional demands.

I wounder if he will loosen his grip, or sanctions on Cuba? or will this be another firm NO? does there still need to be heavy sanctions on Cuba?

Possibly since that's what Obama did.

But as far as Iran is concerned, Biden is right to call them out and tell them to resume compliance before lifting sanctions. Biden has no reason to lift sanctions first.

And the dance begins. At least America now has someone who knows how to dance.

And just yesterday the Trump supporters here were saying "he'll lift sanctions"....

And they continue to avoid answering the question; Is Iran closer to getting a nuclear weapon now compared to 2016?

And they'll continue to dodge it - because after four years of Trump, the answer is yes...

So Iran is left out in the cold while the Great Satan is still stoking the coals.

So, Biden will continue the Trump policy, huh?

So, Biden will continue the Trump policy, huh?

Aye, the 45ist status quo remains.

Biden is not following the Trump policy, which was to maintain the punishment of Iran, no matter what. Under the circumstances, IMO, it would be reasonable for the US to unilaterally remove the punishments implemented by Trump, perhaps with a timeline attached, expecting reciprocation.

It was, after all, the US that started the current problem, so the US could start the solution.

Trump resumed the U.S. sanctions on Tehran that had been lifted through the accord, and he pressed reluctant allies to do the same. Tehran a year later suspended its compliance with most key nuclear commitments.

And the US got nothing in return. Biden will extract concessions, something Trump didn't have the brains or the guts to do.

does there still need to be heavy sanctions on Cuba?

No.

It was a disgrace what was done to the nation, whether or not one agrees with the Castros and co.

Its not the US policy. Its the Saudi and Israeli policy dictated to the US.

Just looking at his cabinet picks, I don't expect a huge change in policy.

Given that the US NEVER met its obligations under the JCPOA, but Iran not only did, but is still in compliance with the terms of the JCPOA (it specifies that if the US etc did not meet their obligations under the deal, Iran was completely free to simply return to just complying with the NNPT) the entire American position is ridiculous.

And that isn't just my opinion, or Iran's, the recent rejection of all the positions the US put forward by the ICJ is pretty apparent that it is the opinion of the international court empowered to rule on such matters.

Remember that the JCPOA came into being because the US was about to see its assets seized to pay the damages that the ICJ ruled it owed Iran, and that it is on its way to awarding more shows that Biden is, if not as disconnected from reality as Trump was on this matter, too cowardly to act as if he weren't.

No difference. Iran would cheat any deal, pocket the lucre from the naive West and continue promoting terrorism. New day, same story.

actually he said he wont lift them unilaterally, Im predicting all countries and parties will get trogether again iron out a deal similar or better than the one Trump cancelled and when all parties are satisfied theyll sign the agreement again

It was the US (Trump because of Israeli pressure) that broke the nuclear deal in the first place with sanctions so why Iran should have to stop enriching in order to have the sanctions removed is an absolute travesty of international relations or whatever you want to call it. Its pathetic really.

After all is said and done Biden's position will mirror Trump's, as Iran is the made-up enemy of the United States. Trump set policy in a very loud and clear way, Biden will keep the same policy in a very quiet and subtle way.
