Body cameras are a positive development. It protects cops from baseless accusations and protects people from having their rights violated.
bass4funk
No worries.
Yes.
SuperLib
Ah, sorry. I didn't realize we were debating that. Yes, I agree that if a criminal is trying to kill a cop, the cop has the right to use lethal force. I just assumed you'd thought I agreed since it's a pretty obvious statement.
bass4funk
....on my last point.
That is simply not the case. The police are issued body cameras and they need to have the body cameras on just before they encounter any assailant, that is company policy and it’s for their protection as well as for the publics protection and if they did not have these cameras we would not have known what happened in the George Floyd case and because thousands of officers were cameras we can see that there Isn’t the excessive use of violence end of cops shooting unarmed people, that is simply not the case.
You won’t see mass shootings of people if people are following the law, but you’re sadly mistaken and if you think a police officer is supposed to stand there and take any kind of threat coming his or her way and buy any weapon, that’s not gonna happen, they’re going to meet any physical attack on them with equal or deadly force, it’s not that hard to understand and these kids for some reason think that they’re invulnerable
SuperLib
A hit job? We just agreed.
bass4funk
No, it doesn’t go like that. Don’t cut and sneak a hit job. So to be specific.
“and at the same time, criminals don’t have the right to throw Molotov cocktail chemicals in a cops face.” In that case the officer is allowed to use lethal force in that situation, so you can definitely make a counter argument. If the officer is attacked, they have the right to respond to that attack with equal measured response.
SuperLib
Glad we agree. The end.
bass4funk
No they don’t of course not and at the same time, criminals don’t have the right to throw Molotov cocktail chemicals in a cops face. Criminals don’t have the right to take guns with them in hospitals and refuse a pat down when a officer commands it, the criminals don’t have the right to disobey the commands of a peace officer when he tells you pull your car over and you continue to drive off.
rhetorical question?
Agreed

Derek Chauvinist had a bad rap sheet before he murdered George Floyd and even if George did anything wrong, two wrongs don't make it right. Or even. What he did is not how police are trained to apprehend a suspect. And the abusive crap continues.
The Big Issue is that the Minneapple Police Dept. has some very bad rotten apples in it. Don't destroy the orchard but throw out the rotten fruit.
SuperLib
Yep. But they don't have the right to choke you to death while in cuffs, break your neck while you're in the back of a police van, or shoot you when your hands are up and you are complying.
Next I'll head over to YouTube to watch videos of back people committing crime. Any recommendations?
bass4funk
If the people “committing” the crimes in these cities are black, why should the police disregard the crime? Because they’re black? That in itself is racist thinking that.
Ok, so basically, if a cop tells a car jacker who happens to be black that he/she are under arrest for the crime, blacks can say, screw you? This is exactly why more and more shootings are occurring. (A lot of black criminals and this is on tape and you find tons of them on YouTube) and these people think I don’t have to listen to the cop and they think when they commit and offense the cop will actually let them walk, that is just the most absurd thing I have every heard. And funny when someone is killed by a black cop or is physically assaulted by a black cop, the media is absolutely silent and won’t say a word. The cop has every right to detain you if they feel something is suspicious or info on an Eminent threat.
starpunk
And adding all those 'extra factors' only stokes indifference and further bigotry in the herts of the milquetoast TV news watchers who love to rah-rah violence.
The Big Issue is that the Minneapple Police Dept. has some very bad rotten apples in it. And killing Black suspects is still murder no matter how you slice it, period.
SuperLib
OK, what would you like us to do with that information? Add it to the headline? "Cop charged with manslaughter for killing a black man who, just want to add, had a warrant." When a man kills his wife do you add "tidbits" of information about how bad of a person she was?
SuperLib
There are plenty of discussions about problems in the black community. But if you say that 100% of the time cops kill blacks then it becomes obvious that you aren't willing to have any conversation about cops killing blacks.
Bob Fosse
Maybe you should read the article again and decide who is at fault here.
Maybe police should have better training.
Maybe you should have supported the “obey police orders” line on January 6th. I recall you thinking the woman shot was the victim there.
Maybe these Black people trying to deescalate violence are doing something good.
Lots of maybes. But apparently you already know what’s going to happen.
ulysses
Small brains and big guns go together, as can be seen by the ‘fine people’ carrying guns.
ulysses
Only if you are a bigot!!!
Most normal people get through their lives without arming themselves and shooting other humans!!!
bob
And if you lived in any one of the perennially failed Democrat cities, you'd be in line to buy a gun.
ulysses
The problem with a lot of Americans is that they want the crazies to have access to guns, and then want to shoot the crazies because they have guns.
Not all crazies though , some of them are more equal than others!!!
bob
Heres a little tidbit about Dante Wright you won't find in the cowed US media. He was an arch criminal with an arrest warrant for aggravated robbery charges.
Yes. black people have to obey the laws of the land as well. To say they don't shows racism as it infantilizes them and puts their communities in grave danger.
tooheysnew
@toasted
Black people don't have to "obey" the white man anymore,
ok, so a black person can do any illegal activity he wants to, & not have to answer to his actions - because he’s black & the cops are white !?
Toasted Heretic
Understandable. Someone has to stand up against the inherently racist system.
Maybe the cops shouldn't be targeting black people all the time.
Anyway. Black people don't have to "obey" the white man anymore, times have moved on.
bob
Oh yeah. This will end well.
Maybe they should encourage obeying police during routine stops.
Nah, that would be too easy.
