Iranian missiles can reach Europe, so they definitely have an interest, just the same as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Israel.

They are all at risk from Iran and know it.

How ironical of Trump, first he pulls the US out of the nuclear deal, then proceeds in the Middle East with a reckless foreign policy causing mayhem and chaos, then almost instigating a war with Iran with an assassination of an Iranian government official , and now Trump wants to drag the NATO alliance into his quagmire. NATO should give him the middle finger and say , your on your own pal.

NATO should be involved.

By isolating the US and preventing any more terrorist directions from the tyrant, Trump.

“Today, I am going to ask NATO

Another case of Trump making a problem worse and then expecting someone else to bail him out. Typical spoiled class brat.

If they want to cut their own throats, they should just try it, please.

I don’t know, with so many radicals in Europe you’d think that it would be in Europe’s best interest to get involved, their fight as well. Look at Germany...smh...

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he would ask NATO to step up its involvement in the Middle East, an unexpected request from a president who in the past has questioned the relevance of the transatlantic alliance and split with some member nations over his approach to Iran.

This is NATO's big chance to step up. They can't hide behind U.S. military strength forever. Time to put on their big boy pants, and pull their own weight. And kick Turkey out.

White House officials say that before Trump took office, just four NATO members had reached the 2% benchmark for military spending set in 2014. Now there are nine, and 18 of the 29 are projected to meet the benchmark by 2024.

And the Europeans are very excited to get involved in the conflict they did not srart, conflict with no practical gain for them. Sure, sure.

They should all get out of the Middle East. But the if the Europeans want to meddle, they should do so themselves, and not hide behind the skirt of the US.

Asakaze:

And the Europeans are very excited to get involved in the conflict they did not srart,

Are you saying the Europeans did not participate in Hillary Clintons destruction of Libya? Check some facts.

@WilliB

Are you saying the Europeans did not participate in Hillary Clintons destruction of Libya?

The situation is different. Libya was not militarily strong, and NATO members were happy to invade and rob it. Iran is much stronger, and NATO preys only on weak.

Trump makes moves without consulting NATO, and now he wants NATO to help him out?

If NATO is gonna get involved, they should be free to make moves without Trump's consultation as well

If they're gonna carry their own weight, then they should carry their own weight and not Trump's weight

Typical Trump:

He screwed it up by terminating that nuclear agreement.

That agreement sucked, it allowed Iran to fund terrorism, attack our embassy through their proxies, buy missiles to launch at Iraqi bases and eventually acquire nukes. Unless of course Rep. Dan Crenshaw said something here that isn't true:

Rep. Dan Crenshaw says Obama-era officials are obsessed with defending their appeasement of Iran

zichi - Trump didn't even inform his NATO allies when he ordered a drone strike on Qasem Soleimani. Trump thinks NATO is like his gang or private army to do his bidding.

Most NATO members don't even pay their own share of NATO's operating costs. NATO members have been more than willing to let the U.S. handle the heavy work.
