In the parts of the US, the UK and Canada

where immigrants wrap up and the car is the transport of choice then vitamin D deficiency might be a problem but for the majority of Asians it is not.

There is zero evidence of a vitamin D deffency exists in India or that it has anything to do with COVID.

I think obesity has more to do with Covid. I notice a lot of fat people in India.

Modi set a tickling time bomb when he locked down the whole transportation system for the million migrant workers to walk home, the virus has already spread far and wide, and mutated along, hence the crisis of today. More surprise is that over the months of pandemic, no scientists, medical health officers be it national of state level detected such mutated variants and warn the over-confidence Modi?? last but not least, Modi still playing politics by declining China's help at the expense of its own citizens. #IndianLivesMatter. Pray for India.

herd immunity, around 900million people at a 2~3% fatality rate thats around 18~27milion dead. Not since the spanish flu has the world experienced such a contagious virus

Infection fatality rate is around 0.5%. Like the other poster, you try to make math with false numbers.

May be Japan should be sending it's vaccines to India before it expires while waiting on the authorities to decide the next plan of action?

Sickening.

" With this review, we aim to summarize the existing literature on Vitamin D status in India and understand the enormity of the problem. The prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency ranged from 40% to 99%, with most of the studies reporting a prevalence of 80%–90%. It was prevalent in all the age groups and high-risk groups alike."

Herd immunity existed long before vaccines were invented. It is simply a label for the state where the virus runs out of hosts.

and what if there wasnt a vaccine yet, still no lockdowns. do you even realise how many people need to get infected in India to get herd immunity, around 900million people at a 2~3% fatality rate thats around 18~27milion dead. Not since the spanish flu has the world experienced such a contagious virus, so no lockdowns are necessary until enough of the Indias population is inoculated. so stop spreading lies and misinformation like your last Fuehrer did

While the US and Japan offer moral support to India, China, India's 'enemy' is airlifting 40,000 oxygen generators into India.

Both the US and Japan are sending actual aid to India right now, its just plain wrong to suggest that all they are offering is moral support.

On April 30, the Japanese government decided to provide 300 oxygen concentrators and the same number of ventilators to India.

Actually the FDA DAID look at it and found it to be utterly useless. Next.

They claimed that Vitamin D, one of the essentials health, is "useless"? Do they claim that for all vitamins? Do you have a link?

And there is no proven link between a so called Vitamin D deffincy and COVID infections. This is laughable. Next.

Nobody said there is a link with "infections". Everybody can get infected, with different reactions, from zero to severe. The claim, that nobody except you disputes, is that Vitamin D deficiency impairs the immune system.

Japan is offering cash to politicians in a country with many accusations of corruption. Not O2 like China.

I encourage the clever reader to explore some possible correlations between these two events ... similarly not covered in mainstream media.

Encouraging a ‘clever reader’ to read something that doesn’t exist is not a ‘clever’ suggestion.

It isn’t covered in the mainstream media eh? How unusual. Could you provide some links or is it a kind of egg hunt?

Vaccines are safe and effective. Those arguing for provably false narratives like Vitamin D and Hydroxy are (I believe knowingly) perpetuating a lie that both extends the pandemic and costs lives.

Vitamin D is essential for health and in particular important for your immune system. Hydroxychloroquine is a medication that might help or might not and has become highly politized because Trump mentioned it. NEITHER of those are suggested as cures for Corona. In particular comparing Vitamin D, which essential for you, with a vaccination is absurd.

70% is a ball park figure.

Ball park figure for which R rate?? Depending on the R rate, it is completely different.

And with regard to the fatality rate, I’m using publicly available information. It could be higher or lower depending on the circumstances. And I’ll admit I don’t know.

Where is "publicly available information" that puts the infection fatality rate at 2.5% as you claimed? I have not seen any. Source please? Again, the publicly available figures that I have seen are around 0.5%.

Or, as I suggested, are you trying to quote the case fatality rate? That is of course a meaningless figure, as most infected have no symptoms and are not tested.

70% is a ball park figure. And with regard to the fatality rate, I’m using publicly available information. It could be higher or lower depending on the circumstances. And I’ll admit I don’t know.

What I do know is that letting society open up, letting the virus run wild is a way to cause horrific and unnecessary human death on a scale previously only imaginable by high intensity warfare.

Vaccines are safe and effective. Those arguing for provably false narratives like Vitamin D and Hydroxy are (I believe knowingly) perpetuating a lie that both extends the pandemic and costs lives.

And I’ll put my math skills and ability to see what is happening in front of our eyes against anyone.

A lot of misconceptions about herd immunity out there. Both sides are correct - at least partially.

herd immunity - resistance to the spread of an infectious disease within a population that is based on pre-existing immunity of a high proportion of individuals as a result of previous infection or vaccination.

It's the result. The result of previous infection (and survival, duh) and / or vaccination.

The population of the India is 1.326 billion. In order to gain the type of immunity you imagine at least 70% would need to become infected. The death rate world wide is around 2.5%. I think India’s would be higher but let’s go with that. Your approach would result in about 23,205,000 deaths

Your math is faulty. The percentage for herd immunity depends on the R-factor, it is not magically set at 70%. And your 2,5% death rate seems to refer to the CFR, which is meaningless. The IFR is assumed to be around 0.5%.

There is zero evidence of a vitamin D deffency exists in India or that it has anything to do with COVID.

Why do you say something like that as if it was fact. Just say you don't know.

A simple Google search would have led you to this recent paper:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6060930/

From its abstract:

"Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent worldwide. This deficiency has many consequences which are still being explored, apart from the well-known skeletal complications. With this review, we aim to summarize the existing literature on Vitamin D status in India and understand the enormity of the problem. The prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency ranged from 40% to 99%, with most of the studies reporting a prevalence of 80%–90%. It was prevalent in all the age groups and high-risk groups alike."

There is also lots of evidence linking vitamin D status with upper respiratory infections in general and Covid19 specifically.

Funny how the timing and location of this viral surge and these lockdowns are coming on the heels of the world's largest worker's strike in history — which got very little coverage in mainstream media. Clever virus indeed. I encourage the clever reader to explore some possible correlations between these two events ... similarly not covered in mainstream media.

I do not know about India, but it is an accepted fact that there is widespread vitamin D deficiency in northern countries (why do you think Vitamin D fortification is mandatory in Scandinavia?), and I have yet to see any medical commentator that claims that vitamin D deficiency does not weaken the immune system. Or that the immune system has nothing to do with COVID. What is your source for that claim?

because that worked so well with polio and small pox, right? By your logic, syphilis should be extinct, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

By your logic we should let it rip through the population.

I did not say that. I simply pointed out the meaning of the term. Please read more carefully.

There is a rather large amount of evidence that long-term sun exposure causes skin cancer. I had to have a chunk of my face cut off because of it.

India has an extremely high incidence of vitamin D insufficiency. I hope they are addressing that. I'm glad to see those two guys in the above picture sitting in the sun.

By your logic we should let it rip through the population. Let’s see how that would work out: The population of the India is 1.326 billion. In order to gain the type of immunity you imagine at least 70% would need to become infected. The death rate world wide is around 2.5%. I think India’s would be higher but let’s go with that. Or we could vaccinate. I will leave it up to readers to determine which approach is better.

Herd immunity only comes through mass-vaccination campaigns.

Wrong. Herd immunity comes anyway, that is how epidemics stop naturally. The vaccination is there to speed up the process and make it safer.

They need herd immunity, not lockdowns.

Please read the whole article first.
