India virus death toll passes 300,000; 3rd highest in world

....and nobody in the editors room noticed that India has the second highest population in the world?

Got to love opiniion articles without context.

Some estimate the death figure to be in excess of 1 million. People are dying without a hospital or doctor record and then cremated or even thrown into the Ganges.

India was always a disaster waiting to happen. Make no mistake, India has the highest death toll but the Modi administration has been trying its best to hide the actual figures by doing statistical jugglery. To be fair, Modi did promise his bhakts that he will make India a world leader.

Why would you even think that most people don’t know that already? No need to dumb everything down to a level you think is understandable.

Is that supposed to put the Indians' minds at ease? Or is that your way of putting a positive spin on 4,500 deaths a day?

Nobody believes they have been accurately counting the dead. Add at least one zero I'd wager.

Modi should be shot.

Strange how many don't like your pointing this out!

India's Covid19 death toll is 108th highest in the world; not as news worthy.

Because it isn’t true. Just knock it off already.

I think one problem I see with ‘alternative media’ is that it creates an illusion that those not on the conspiracy theory bandwagon are idiots. It flatters its followers into believing they are more perceptive, intelligent and knowledgeable than others.

The fact that someone felt it necessary to pint out that India has the world’s second largest population is indicative of that.

My intention, and probably Zaphod's as well, was not to show that we were so perceptive as to discover some secret truth. But rather to simply point out one more example of the fear porn we see daily of the MSM making everything seem worse than it really is. I'm not saying 300,000 deaths is nothing, but saying it is 3rd highest is meaningless and can only be explained by wanting to make this seem more tragic than it really is.

There is some of that going on.

What are the conspiracy theorists/anti-vaxxers peddling with their views of the dire consequences of vaccines taken from selective ‘experts’?

Is this fear porn?

To be fair, you tried to calm people down by telling us this virus burned itself out last year, but I prefer truth over false consolation.

If numbers are truly 300k, I would not be concerned considering the size of the population and available basic health infrastructure. Around 25k thousand people die in India on a regular day. However, the true numbers are far more, and most likely passed one million in last December. There is a deliberate attempt to underreport both numbers infected cases as well as death numbers.

Or they simply don't care. Lower castes in India are subhumans, their bodies left in the street.

Modi carried on campaigning as this went on ffs.

It’s true that India’s death toll is the third highest in the world. I’m not certain why you think it’s meaningless because it tells us the a lot of people in India have died, which tells us that COVID is extremely tragic.

Modi is doing everything possible to contain the spread of this evil COVID -19 deadly disease started from Wuhan . Nobody talk about those who were engaged in Corona research since 2015 and providing financial funding for the operations at Wuhan . There should be fair independent investigation into the origin of the virus to fix the responsibility of the all culprits involved in the sread of Corona virus in the world that had taken millions of lives in the world so far.

Modi is doing everything possible to make life miserable for his people. It is for the Indian people to decide whether they want such an incompetent pm to lead. I do follow a little bit of Indian politics. It is all, religion caste, and ultranationalism. I do not see any real agenda for improving the lives of common people.

Modi is building a new luxury mansion for himself.
