Good Job INS Tabar!! Why can not the other countries do such? With the exception of the UK they do not want to do anything but watch. Again I salute the crew of this ship and the government of India for making the world a safer place for the peaceful.

Good job. Hope the various naval assets in the area work closely to both eliminate these pirate scum and rescue any sailors being held.

Great job for the new kid on the block. Of course I don't mean a new nation but an emerging world leader. I hope they will be even more active in this theater of operations. It would be nice to have a regional force forwarding the overall world interests.

Seems like a lot of the pirates got away but at least the Tabar showed they meant business. Good work!

My compliments to the Indian Navy their captian & the crew. We need more of this in the future & hope some other countries might see this as not only good training but good for the rest of the world to downgrade War Lords from small countries.

From the pirates' point of view, it must be an adrenalin rush. All or nothing. Glory or death. The local villagers stand in awe of the pirate deeds, and young people are unwilling to stay in traditional fishing, I read in the papers recently. Apart from a few boring old die-hard fishermen, everyone wants to be a pirate and make money and live the high life. Their real enemy will be the hard-line religious extremists who will want to milk this luctrative trade, I suspect, if this is not indeed already happening.

The West is still afraid of killing someone by mistake or without plainly viewable and justifiable cause.

From the pirates' side, a few killed or wounded every so often would merely add to the fun and excitement. No qualms about petty human life here, hahahahaha. Once they release a ship, however, the port might get attacked, so they will need to replace the ship immediately with the next one(s).

Well, OK, but these boats look like thousands of other fishing boats, moving in unsuspicious patterns, and their flags will be more than likely dirty (freshly washed?) underwear.

Rurika, the article mentions that the pirates attacked the Indian ship. Naval ships of any nation in that situationwould have done what India did - slap the pirates down hard.

It doesn't have Harpoon missiles, it's a Russian-built ship. They do have a 100mm main gun though - enough to ruin any pirate's day!

nandakanmanda, I'm not sure what you mean? The pirates opened fire on a British frigate and shots were returned. As far as I know, the British killed 3 pirates and captured only 8. The French have only captured 6. It's progress but doesn't seem very 'tough' to me. There are 17 ships and over 250 crew captured in 2008 still being held by the pirates. Maersk have already announced their larger vessels will avoid the Aden route. 'Tough action' really needs to be tougher than this.

I guess that the pirates were not alone onboard when they went down. I supose that they were accompanied by hostages kept inside the mothership, caged enemies, women forced into prostitution, slaves for the kitchen ...

If the pirates were smart, they would send out their own report of the attack and it would be something like this:

Wedding party on a party boat was attacked by military warship while shooting off fireworks. 47 dead including 20 women and children. Bride and groom missing feared dead.

Meanwhile - 26th of November - it becomes more and more clear that the destroyed ship was not a pirates' "mother sphip" but rather the already captured "Ekawat Nava 5" from Thailand with 16 tied up sailors onboard when it went down.
