I Respect Women slogan and problem solved.

Dream on India.

First get serious.

Pigs. Worse than pigs. Rape is one of those crimes where a prison sentence doesnt do justice. Have everyone one of those sick bastards who did the deed get their "weapon" chopped off and you will see the amount of rapes start to decline.

I pray that poor woman can somehow put this terrible event behind her, but I doubt it......

That's two foreigners in less than a week. "The mindset is changing," they say -- I say change it faster.

Odeman: "Have everyone one of those sick bastards who did the deed get their "weapon" chopped off and you will see the amount of rapes start to decline."

Too extreme, although chemical castration and a long prison sentence, as well as a good old shaming, would do.

Those all Bastards must be publicly Punished...as such by seen those, no one else would even think of doing this again.

Mabe India needs to go back to British rule? Seems when the Indian government tries to fix a problem, it gets worst. But look at the Indian diplomats case in the US, seems respecting the law or even ethics is questionable.

smithinjapan: it might be extreme at first, but in this "civilized" day and age, I think we need a bit of extreme to wake up some people.

It would not be a bad initiative for people around the World to post these kinds of news in Facebook and encourage potential tourists to stay away from India. Maybe that will give the government a warning to be serious about this problem.

No, you do not need such extremes, you just need to make and enforce tougher laws. India clearly turns a blind eye, more or less, to such crimes, especially when it involves rape against the lower class in the caste system. Genital mutilation is not the answer, and would only 'solve things', by your logic, when the police bothered to go and catch the people responsible. It's an issue of corruption and lax law enforcement. Fix that first.

Not a bad idea.

Putting travel advisory/warning to India is long over due.

I'll never go to India.

I have to agree with Stewart; a year ago I was thinking about a position in India as a way to see the place. Now I'm convinced that I want nothing to do with it. This abuse of women is absolutely disgusting and there's no excuse for it. It seems like a large number of Indian men are culturally backward. This could take a generation to fix without some extreme means. India can't even get corruption and the economy under control, how are they going to tackle this kind of cultural problem?

smithinjapan, I go with odeman. Sorry, but 'make and enforce stiffer laws won't cut it in India's society. I go with 'chop the weapon off' - just once - and i guarantee you that society will take notice. I have a few Indian friends who wholeheartedly agree, by the way, so this isn't just a Canadian's opinion. Draconian or not, one example is all that's needed. Pity the poor fool who's the example, perhaps, but what needs to be done needs to be done.

Based on the US State Department's travel site, who would want to go there especially a woman? http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/country/india.html

You know that South African invention that a woman invented that was supposed to turn the tables on rapists would probably be very effective here and everywhere in the world for that matter.

Castration seems a perfectly good option.

Not too sure what is going in there in India, but its black eye to that country!!

This embarrasses the country more than any strip search ever could.
