Modi is giving an address to the Indian diaspora at a sold-out 20,000-seat Sydney stadium Tuesday.

Modi should tell the Indian-Australians to support Australia instead of India in the upcoming WTC final cricket test match. Otherwise their loyalty to their host nation will be in question.

How close? Full military alliance close? That would be news. A linking of bilateral military alliances would make the QUAD much more substantial.

Japan - US alliance - In place

US - Australia alliance - In place

Australia - India alliance - Future possibility

If that last piece of the puzzle comes into play then the Quad is a full military alliance through interconnecting allies. That would cause great concern for China who is looking for a conflict in the region.

Australians more sophisticated than that, deep sporting culture, they just want well behaved passionate fans!

Yep, good idea these alliances, BUT no NEED for NATO and their WAR MACHINE.

Either Modi is just handing out pleasantries or there is something else going on here. Can you imagine him saying the same things about the US? Trust but verify as always.

Modi understands world well, reads trends, not fooled easily etc. Kudos to 'partnership' Modi, not you're run of the mill radical destabilization transactionalist - bravo!

World-building is a beautiful project. Wiping out hunger, disease, ignorance, wars, poverty, exploitation, violence, and injustice is a mission second to none. Leaders are yet to do justice to their enormous potential.

Yes, Modi is in election mode.

While India doesn't have a concept of dual citizenship, he wants to prove to Indian voters that even if you or your relatives move abroad and acquire the citizenship of other countries, his government will always be there to sort out your problems if any with your host nations.

Never mind that most Indians who settle abroad look down on their country of origin and consider themselves Americans/British/Canadians/Australian first and Indians later.

Exactly! Why then pursue global destabilization and destruction of Democracy?! We know current situation, selfish transactionalists, putting all of Humanity at Grave Risk, as Modi, Xi & Others Great Leaders have said so!

Let's rather pursue harmony thru shared Values & Interests to SOLVE World's Great Problems, that's Humanity & Why Modi's Fiduciary Partner for Humanity!

Why not? India is emerging as a technological and economic powerhouse and its population is over one billion. Being so geographically 'close' to Down Under with Communist Vietnam and Laos and the scummy bastard dictatorship of Myanmar nearby, Australia needs allies to counter the glare od China with its CCP. The more allies in mutual defense against all that, the better.

The government of Narendra Modi and his political party are only very slightly less authoritarian and genocidal than the CCP. It is a shame to see western nations making nice to this thug for the sake of deterring China.

I feel like the quad will need India at some point. With a population 4x the US, it will be difficult to deter China with the other three. While India would almost certainly not get involved in an initial conflict over Taiwan, it could be convinced to keep the South China Sea open.

The same way Western nations made nice with CCP to deter the Soviet Union. But your dislike of India probably has to do more with the fact that your wife is from China. It’s the same reason you dislike Japan.

My opinions regarding Japan are based on my first hand experience at sea with the JMSDF (highly favorable) and the fact my family fought in WWII, an uncle permanently disabled fighting the IJA in Guadalcanal and a mother who was on the Manhattan Project. Having a Chinese wife has nothing to do with it. If anything she thinks my opinion of Japan today is too favorable. The Japan of today is emphatically not the Japan my family fought but Japan has not atoned for its barbarities in the manner of the Germans and as a result remains widely distrusted in Asia (not a factor for the west it seems).

As for India I want to like them and respect their democracy however Mr. Modi and the BJP make that impossible. They have party members openly calling for genocide against all Muslims, India literally stripped the citizenship from millions of Indian Muslims and the BJP whackos want Christians run out too. This was not a problem in India until Modi and the BJP came to power.

An alliance we now profoundly regret. It seems we never learn from past mistakes.

India isn't mired in communism like China was. India will develop no matter what the Quad does and it is better to have at least one behemoth being neutral than two behemoths coming at you. I don't trust them at all, either, but it is better to see what can be accomplished than to give up entirely.

Indian has need of more freedom of speech protections, which are definitely lacking.

Do you even know anything about India? You are one of those propaganda people from 3rd class Muslim counties, right? I lived in India for over 4 years, what kind of crp are you spouting about? "genocide against all Muslims, India literally stripped the citizenship from millions of Indian Muslims"- From which propaganda magazine did you get that bull crp? India got 2nd biggest population in the world. I personally interacted with many Muslims for work purposes, they're all very nice and happy. Have some shame and just die with your imaginative family before polluting the world with lies more than this.
