Marone! I knew things were bad over there but never thought it was THIS bad. Where is the humanity?

Pigs! An eyeshole for an eyeshole seems just to me.

We often forget that huge swathes of India are still very backward and cling to long outdated beliefs and systems of justice. This is an awful reminder.

Hey, if the U.S. can get away with state-sanctioned strip-search

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Terrible. Terrible.

But, out of a sense of morbid curiosity.... how in the hell do they pick the men?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Loki Probably all the men in the village who were capable.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Woah wtf! That is seriously messed up.

We only hear about these sorts of things today because they are so screwed up comparatively. But you can't help but imagine what life would have been like for women like 1,000 years ago where terrible things like this likely happened all the time.

The man apparently involved with the girl was freed after he agreed to pay the fine within a week, he said.

So what exactly would have happened to the man if the man paid the woman's fine but not his own fine? I somehow doubt the man would have been gang-raped by 12 men.

So....were any of those men married? What was the village council planning to punish them with if they were?

And what was the husband's say in all this?

What I really cannot figure out is how it was figured that the village council was owed some due. Why do they get this money from the man, but not the husband?

I know I am going to get the usual attacks for being a party pooper, but this village council is quite simply rogue and does not represent India's 1 billion people in the slightest. The last time anything this crazy happened on the orders of a village council is written in the article; 2002 in Pakistan.

India still living in barbarous times in the 21st century....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What does Chinese President Xi Jinping's wife have to say about this travesty?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What happened if the guy couldn't pay the fine ? Does he get raped by 12 men as well? Or 12 oba sans? Gees this is pretty weird.

The only word that comes to mind is "SAVAGES"!

Think about it.... ordered by the Village Council, not to mention they actually found 12 men that had no problem with carrying out the punishment. The mentality in India that women should be held to higher moral standards than men and that women are treated like common animals is unforgiveable. Again, India has sunk to new lows.

Whatever that's abominable.

So....were any of those men married?

No. Their only "sin" is the man is not from the same village (and either not from the same caste or ethnicity). From other report, they were not having what you'd call an "affair", they were engaged. The 2 young people announced to her family that they wanted to marry. That's like the KKK that was abducting and judging inter racial couples. But in Indian context, that's still happening in 21st century..

Not at all. In the poorest rural areas, they have cases all the time. Very few dare reporting to the police.

THANK God, or my good KARMA I was not born in messed up India! They had a bit of sex and this is an affair?? WTF??

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Insane....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

That's India off my list if places to see.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I hate India.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

It will be centuries before India can even come close to even call itself a civilized world if it ever will. Again, why hasn't any countries put travel warning against travelling to India. Too afraid to do the right thing?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

but it's the world's biggest democracy (as indian supporters would say).

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What the hell!? What kind of people would ever allow, AUTHORIZE something like this to happen??? There's something seriously messed up with people there.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

India needs vigilantes... on the vigilantes...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The incidence is regrettable. Being a largest democratic country and due to high population pressure, it seems government of India failed to provide security to common men. Although in India much good work has also been done. Please focus on the other side of the coin also.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I hope they arrested anybody on the village council who voted for this "punishment". Barbaric. Backwards. Immoral.

Please focus on the other side of the coin also.

I understand that India is making progress. But there's a long way to go. This kind of story will, hopefully, increase the pace towards a modern civilization.

Despite tougher laws and efforts to change attitudes to women in India’s deeply patriarchal society, the number of reported sex crimes continues to rise.

This should be written as "Because of tougher laws and efforts to change attitudes to women ...". I would say many in India are working very hard to change things. I wish them the best and admire their strength.

Only in India just when you try to cut out the middle men the Village Elders by trying to get some nookie on they side and they don't get paid they put you to work!! They rape you too!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Pretty bad when people need saving from their own culture. All the Indian females in the U.S. I know are smart and educated and a HAPPY to be out of that place.
