can you not see a rapist being ever more motivated to "silence" his victim?

On the other hand, a rapist might think twice about committing such acts on minors. I think it's gona work.

Perhaps the lawmakers in New Delhi should take heed and come up with some similar severe punishments. After all, were not a 2 yr old toddler and 5 yr old repeatedly gang raped the other day??

And has that effect been positive or negative?

According to WIki:

When used on men, these drugs can reduce sex drive, compulsive sexual fantasies, and capacity for sexual arousal. Life-threatening side effects are rare, but some users show increases in body fat and reduced bone density, which increase long-term risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. They may also experience gynecomastia (development of larger than normal mammary glands in males). When used on women, the effects are similar, though there isn't much (if any) research about chemically lowering women's sex drives, since most research focuses on the opposite, but anti-androgenic hormone regimens would lower testosterone in women which can impact sex drive or sexual response. These drugs also deflate the breast glands and expand the size of the nipple. Also seen is a sudden shrink in bone mass and discoloration of the lips,[8][9] reduced body hair, and muscle mass.

The high profile child sex crimes likely had nothing to do with pedophilia; They were rapes plain and simple, the fact that the victims were pre-pubescent was very probably just coincidental or only influenced the level of resistance in the victims.

Pedophiles need treatment, counseling., and understanding. Child rapists (rapists in general even), on the other hand, deserve anything the government wants to throw at them.

If these people are locked up they cannot commit more crimes and chemical castration is unnecessary.

Looks like this guy (above link) could use some chemical castration punishment. Instead, he only got 1 year in jail. ONE year! Pathetic.

"a decree authorising the use of chemical castration... following a string of headline-grabbing child sex crimes"

Cue global outrage!!!

Has chemical castration actually accomplished anything anywhere its been tried? And has that effect been positive or negative?

The simple desire for vengeance, in itself, has never contributed to the betterment or safety of society.

For those who can't see how it could make things worse, if this is the new punishment, can you not see a rapist being ever more motivated to "silence" his victim?

Forget that, put a bullet in their head, that's a permanent solution to that problem !

@Black Sabbath (sigh) I mean, have sex crimes been reduced in number and severity in countries where chemical castration is done? The number one goal is to reduce the number and severity of sex crimes, no? Punishing and "rehabilitating" the relatively few perpetrators caught is no guarantee of that at all, no matter how successful the "rehabilitation".

@Wc626

On the other hand, a rapist might think twice about committing such acts on minors.

My point exactly. But you don't seem to realize what it means when people are made to think twice. The result is not always "Ain't going there". The result is sometimes "I need a plan to silence my next victim".

The high profile child sex crimes likely had nothing to do with pedophilia;

Bingo. Hardcore serial rapists pretty much only care about gender, and some don't even care about that. They will rape whomever, or whatever. Confusing them with pedophiles is not only stupid, its detrimental to the entire concept of preventing sex crime.
