Israel used stupid trump to make a Saudi, UAE acceptance of Israel to, when oil bBiden is president, to rise the price of oil. USA is bankrupt, needs the oil/gas sales. Iran is the fly in the ointment.

a USA war with Iran will bring $4trillion to USA military industrial complex, and save struggling American oil companies. And almost total control of the region.

except Turkey of course.

I was waiting for something like this to happen! I knew Israel will do something to try to provoke Iran before Trump leaves office. If Iranians are clever, the best thing they can do is to do nothing. That would infuriate both Netanyahu and Trump.

For quite some time now, people have been saying a war between Iran and Israel is coming. Eventually, they will probably be proved right. Since the two countries do not share land or maritime borders, it will be fought mostly by planes, missiles and drones, which will mean the deaths of large numbers of civilians. At least we should hope that nukes won't be used.

Trump trying to change the subject yet again. Was it a coincidence that Pompeo was in Saudi Arabia meeting Netanyahu a few days ago. Assassinating people is a crime, but the US and Israel don't seem to mind as long as it is not their citizens being assassinated. It's these kinds of stupid, short-sighted actions that lead to things like 9-11 happening. Then again, the US needs to keep testing and selling its weapons so it's a never-ending cycle.

The Iranians keep saying that and nothing happens and when it does, we or Mossad especially will take out that individual, so they need to think that one seriously through....

so much for that middle east peace

An eye for an eye will leave everyone blind.

I think it was internal Iranians unhappy with their govt.

Or it could be Iraqis unhappy with Iranian regional interference.

Or it could be the Russians trying to get regional trouble started.

How would any Israeli get into Iran? After all, all citizens of Israel are banned from entry into Iran since 1979.

Oh yes, because I'm sure Mossad agents show up at the airport with Israeli passports and yarmulkes on.

The obvious answer is to enter as someone else. Convincing, professionally crafted, no expense spared forged documents combined with your countries intelligence organization creating a false identity that includes a realistic profile on international law enforcement and immigration data bases, maybe even a fabricated business identity complete with a website. Combine that with fluency in Farsi and/or Arabic, remember the Israelis maintained Iran's Air Force for a very long time including many years after the 1979 Revolution. There are Israelis who speak Arabic and Farsi as well as native speakers. The operator then commits their false identity to memory and more or less becomes that made up person for the purposes of the mission.

It has been a rough year for Iran's nuclear program, with multiple explosions at their nuclear sites and now this apparent assassination of a top nuclear scientist tied to their nuclear program. Everyone defaults to accusing the Israelis and maybe the US of conducting these attacks. How about some other regional enemies like Saudi Arabia? The Saudis have never publicly taken revenge for the 2019 Abqaiq-Khurais attack or earlier attacks on tankers at Saudi oil ports. They fear a nuclear armed Iran as much as Israel or the US does. They also are fighting Iran's proxy, the Houthis, in Yemen. The Saudis have more than ample reason to want to attack Iran in this fashion. I'm also of the opinion their intelligence service is capable of such attacks.

It is interesting that the phrase is 'vows revenge' when 'they' are the ones who are talking about responding to an unprovoked attack, but its 'promises retaliation' when 'we' are the ones talking about responding to a response to one of 'our' attacks.

I'd also like to point out that IAEA inspectors have had unfettered access to every site in Iran where enriched nuclear material is made, stored, used, or disposed of long before Obama came to office, let alone the moment he stopped trying to maintain the baseless 'sanctions' in the face of the willingness of some international institutions to not be bullied into pretending there was a shred of evidence behind the 'justifications' he offered.

And that while the POLITICIANS who make up the IAEA board that rubber stamped Obama's claims were not among those who refused to be bullied, the scientists and engineers who did the actually in person, on site, inspections and audits were, and repeatedly debunked the claims about there being nuclear weapons research, let alone a nuclear weapons program, in Iran.

PS, unlike the case of a certain other antiWMD organizations decision to have the POLITICIANS issue reports in the name of the organization that contradicted what the scientists and engineers found on the ground, the IAEA inspectors didn't have to 'leak' the reports they wrote, they actually were available (though not on the landing page) of the official IAEA website, where any competent media fact checker could find them.

UN calls for avoiding escalation in Mideast following assassination of top Iranian nuclear scientist:

Why?

It should have condemned the heinous crime of assassination of scientist openly first instead of calling for any restraint of either party..

This could lead to a hot war, e.g. as proxy in Iraq or Hezbollah

The desert is big. Hiding things from scientists isn't exactly hard. Just take them to places they expect to see.
