One thing seems more certain now that wikileaks came out with dispatches from surrounding countries and that is that there are not a few countries that, while they might not have been involved in this, are far from shedding tears about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ahmadinejad must realized by now that he and Iran have few friends in the world. There now seems to be a long list of nations who intend to stop Iran from aquiring nuclear weapons.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Too Bad. Any scientist willing to work for this creep Ahmadinjihad deserves the treatment of a Nazi. Take your chances when working for evil.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We all knew that the Arab countries dislike Iran. Wikileaks simply spelled it out rather crudely. Iran have not helped their own cause, however. The government needs to study how to present themselves to the world. They come across as pushy, boasting and arrogant. There are so many good Iranians behind the scenes, though.

“Undoubtedly, the hand of the Zionist regime and Western governments is involved in the assassination,”

Given and congratulations

What is also undoubted is the fact that Iran has a hit out on a citizen of another country for merely writing a novel. If Iran wants to be considered 'safe', maybe it is time to fully and clearly retract the order. Until then, it is no wonder many countries in the region do not want to give them the time of day.

Iran’s president accused Israel and the West

Well, that certainly narrows things down.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stuxnet saved us from Iran and Obama.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Indeed, this act of international terror is so typical of Israel.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Iran and Sabiwabi would blame Israel for a bad hair day. Some things are so predictable.

Iran and Sabiwabi would blame Israel for a bad hair day. Some things are so predictable.

Some things are indeed so predictable. Israel has been caught so many times doing things like this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It cer tain ly could be Israel. I have no pro blem with it. As I point ed out, Iran is a cou ntry that has had a hi t out on a re gular ci tizen of an other cou ntry for mere ly writ ing a novel. I perso nal ly don't want a coun try like that to even have the pos sibility of ha ving nu clear weapon s. I unders tand they cl aim they don't want them. I just don't be lieve them. Never mind de fend ing Israel, I can anyone de fend a cou ntry that would have a hi t out on a reg ular person from an other cou ntry for merely wri ting a novel? How could any one say they truly feel such a coun try should have the techn ology to build nuclear wea pons? Sor ry, I don't get it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I certainly hope Israel did this. Obama doesn't have the guts do do this.

"Undoubtedly, the hand of the Zionist regime and Western governments is involved in the assassination," Ahmadinejad told a press conference.

I wish the CIA was half as good as Mossad...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

thetruthhurts, your writing hurts.

How can you put all those gaps in there and expect anyone to read it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He said Iranian experts had learned from the attempt and “this became an experience that stops the path for (sabotage) forever.”

yes, because of this successful sabotage experience they will be able to block against cyber attacks forever.

does anyone really take this guy seriously? (besides sabiwabi and the NY Times?)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do feel sorry for this nuclear scientist but Iran is on the wrong track, just like the DPRK a.k.a. North Korea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wish the CIA was half as good as Mossad...

Heh, considering how badly the Mossad messed up the Dubai fiasco, that's setting the bar low.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

nandakandamanda,

Sorry for the eye pain. Don't know why that happens sometimes.

lostrune2,

The targets are dead, aren't they? Seems like mission accomplished (the real meaning).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do feel sorry for this nuclear scientist but Iran is on the wrong track, just like the DPRK a.k.a. North Korea.

We don't know that. There is yet no evidence they are pursuing nuclear weapons. Their nuclear program could very well be only for energy and manufacturing medical isotopes. We should not listen to those who have been caught lying countless times (remember Iraq and their "yellow cake"?).

Sickening that some are happy about the murder of a brilliant scientist, when their is no evidence his work was in any way related to weapons.

sabiwabi:

" We don't know that. There is yet no evidence they are pursuing nuclear weapons. Their nuclear program could very well be only for energy and manufacturing medical isotopes. "

But sure! Oil-rich Iran is building illegal uranium enrichment facilities only for peaceful energy and medical isotopes (as if the latter were needed for that). Keep the Al-Jazeera fairy tales coming.

Iran's President has questioned the recent leaked documents obtained and published by the Wikileaks website, saying the US administration "released" material intentionally.

In response to a question by Press TV on Monday over the whistleblower website's "leaks," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said "let me first correct you. The material was not leaked, but rather released in an organized way."

"The US administration released them and based on them they pass judgment …. [The documents] have no legal value and will not have the political effect they seek," the Iranian chief executive added at the press briefing in Tehran.

Ahmadinejad stressed that the Wikileaks "game" is "not worth commenting upon and that no one would waste their time reviewing them."

"The countries in the region are like friends and brothers and these acts of mischief will not affect their relations," he added.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Iran blames Israel and the US for everything that goes wrong in his country. I think it was done by Iranians.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not all Iranians love their country nor their theocracy, so even if it was Iranians, maybe of Jewish decent or just plain old angry and fed up with the BS their dictators do to them and say paid by Israel, I would not be surprised in the very least.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"considering how badly the Mossad messed up the Dubai fiasco,"

What are you kidding? Mission accomplished. You think that "outing" the murderers accomplished anything?

sabiwabi...Thanks for sharing. Ahmadinejad certainly is a sucker for conspiracy theories. Someone needs to take advantage of that paranoia.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi - We don't know that. There is yet no evidence they are pursuing nuclear weapons. Their nuclear program could very well be only for energy and manufacturing medical isotopes. We should not listen to those who have been caught lying countless times

There is a long list of nations who do NOT want to see a nuclear Iran including people inside Iran. You are quick to take Ahmadinejad "word" for anything and everything. It's just as likely that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ordered this bomb attack on his own scientists. Is there any proof yet of how of why this bombing occured?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You are quick to take Ahmadinejad "word" for anything and everything.

Its just that he happened to say something I had suspected, which is something that we have seen so many times. US agents "leak" something that is then reported, and then they use those reports to shape their policies. It happened in Iraq (1991 and 2003) and elsewhere. Ahmadinejad could be wrong, but in this case, I doubt it.

Ahmadinejad certainly is a sucker for conspiracy theories.

Yeah, but funny how many of those conspiracies turn out to be true. But hey, if you chose to continue to believe the US government and their MSM despite their constant lies, go ahead.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also, regarding the wikileaks, a senior Israeli government official said "We come out looking very good", according to an article in The Telegraph. So we know that something is definitely fishy with these wikileaks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No it doesn't mean that at all, it just means that wikileaks documents it has released has shown that the Iranian government is not well liked by middle eastern governments and that they are preoccupied by an Iranian threat more so than an Israeli one.

Yeah, but funny how many of those conspiracies turn out to be true. But hey, if you chose to continue to believe the US government and their MSM despite their constant lies, go ahead.

Which conspiracy theory that he believes has turned out to be true?

thetruthhurts wrote:

Yeah, but half of the mission is that it's supposed to be covert - meaning it can't be proven who did it. Otherwise, just hire some thugs to take them out; no need to go thru all the expense of secrecy (and save the Israeli citizens the tax money for Mossad).

(Save the American citizens of tax money too of not paying for the CIA if the CIA is to emulate bumbling Mossad.) A ninja that's not covert is no ninja, haha.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ahmadinejad certainly is a sucker for conspiracy theories. Yeah, but funny how many of those conspiracies turn out to be true.

Ohhhhh wow that is just funny. Go ahead make my day. Tell me which "ones" are true. And just how many of them were there?

Iran can blame anyone it wants to. But it really seems the neighbors don't trust Iran very much.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mikehuntez at 09:24 AM JST - 1st December. Iran can blame anyone it wants to. But it really seems the neighbors don't trust Iran very much.

Doesn't matter. U.S. sanction never worked. Iran is still a leading oil producer and they have leverage on China and other developing nations.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

lostrune2,

First of all, I don't think it has been proven that Israel did it. Has it? We just think they did at this point, right? So, mission accomplished, right? BTW, it is also possible that someone did just hire some thugs to do it. As I said, my guess is Israel. However, it could be lots of groups.

I still don't get the defenders (defender?) of Iran though. The country has had a hit out on a regular citizen of another country just because they wrote a fiction novel. How can anyone support such a country?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

thetruthhurts - First of all, I don't think it has been proven that Israel did it. Has it? We just think they did at this point, right?

No, "WE" don't think they did it. There is no evidence to suggest who did it. Except for Ahmadinejad's rants, that is.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

arrestpaul,

You are correct that there is no evidence to suggest who did it. I was merely speaking of my opinion and that of the poster I was addressing. Thus I used the word 'we'. You do not have to be a member of 'we' if you do not wish.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, mission accomplished, right?

Yeah, they accomplished the murder of a brilliant scientists for whom there was no evidence that he was involved in the development of nuclear weapons. If you are proud of your friends committing such murder, good for you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is yet no evidence they are pursuing nuclear weapons. Their nuclear program could very well be only for energy and manufacturing medical isotopes. We should not listen to those who have been caught lying countless times (remember Iraq and their "yellow cake"?).

sabiwabi, why do you like Ahmadinejad so much?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

, they accomplished the murder of a brilliant scientist

he's "brilliant"? on what do you base this? are you working for Iran?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

he's "brilliant"? on what do you base this? are you working for Iran?

I assumed Iran did not select stupid scientists to work on a major nuclear project. If you have any evidence he was involved in a nuclear WEAPONS program, let us know.

sabiwabi, why do you like Ahmadinejad so much?

Because he is always unjustly attacked by the lying MSM.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I assumed Iran did not select stupid scientists to work on a major nuclear project.

Okay. However, that still does not necessarily mean the scientist was 'brilliant'.

However, what I would like to know is why you seem to support Iran so much. Are you not aware of the fact that this country has had a hit out on a regular citizen of another country for merely writing a fiction novel? How is it that you can support such a country? How is it that you can be comfortable with such a country having access to technology that can be converted into nuclear weapons?

They know the Mossad agents who did it from all the surveillance photographs taken of them (sloppy of them). They also know the fake European and Australian passports that they used (that's what made the those countries so upset - they used European and Aussie citizens to get their passports - resulting in some Israeli diplomats getting expelled by those countries). Those Mossad agents are currently on the Interpol wanted list; at least one has already been arrested. Very sloppy job - it's like their trainings were tax money down the sink.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

lostrune2,

You are talking about Dubai. This article is about Iran. My previous post to you stands.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I assumed Iran did not select stupid scientists to work on a major nuclear project.

Really? Nice of you to put in your editorial that the guy was brilliant, based on nothing.

Why do you support Ahmadinejad in everything he does?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Because he is always unjustly attacked by the lying MSM.

OK, you admit you love Ahmadinejad. Now, what proof do you have the the "lying MSM" is lying?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I assumed Iran did not select stupid scientists to work on a major nuclear project.

Okay. However, that still does not necessarily mean the scientist was 'brilliant'.

I also assumed Iran did not select average scientists to work on a major nuclear project. In fact, I am pretty sure they selected among their brightest scientists. I am sure Iran has their share of brilliant scientists. And the one that was murdered was most likely one of them.

Yes, I am aware that you bring that up all the time, and the author is still alive and well. That fact that this is all you can come up with as a reason for them not having nuclear POWER is quite reassuring. Also reassuring is the fact that they have not attacked any other country in centuries.

However, what I would like to know is why you seem to support Israel so much. Israel, who continues to illegally occupy land from its neighbours, has recently murdered thousands of unarmed civilians in Gaza and Lebanon, refuses to join the NPT and ignores countless UN resolutions, has been accused by the UN of committing war crimes, has built a nuclear arsenal in secret, and has a long history of committing false flags and may one day carry one out with a nuclear weapon.

How is it that you can support such a group? How is it that you can be comfortable with such a group currently having a large nuclear weapons arsenal?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

thethruthhurts,

Heh, my post about the Mossad being a low bar to aspire to, also stands.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi,

Look at your response to me again. You 'assume'. You are 'pretty sure'. It was 'most likely'. It seems you really don't know anything about this scientist. That was my point. You seem to be saying the scientist was brilliant strictly for drama. You don't know that for a fact.

the author is still alive and well

So? This changes something? The fact remains the government of Iran ordered a regular citizen of another country to be killed merely for writing a fiction novel. This is a fact and this hit order remains in effect even today. This is not something you can attempt to claim is a misunderstanding or a story by the 'MSM'. Iran acknowledges it and admits to the truth of it. For someone claiming they are so concerned about free speech, you are strangely unconcerned about such a seriousl issue. Again, with this in mind, How is it that you can support such a country? How is it that you can be comfortable with such a country having access to technology that can be converted into nuclear weapons? They are willing to have someone killed for merely writing a piece of fiction. Sorry, I don't see how a country like this warrents the support (as yet unexplained) you seem to be affording it.

BTW, who says I 'support Israel so much'. I said I agreed with this action. That does not mean I support Israel so much. I don't even know for sure if this is Israel. So, I am not exactly sure what the rest of your commentary is supposed to address. Perhaps we can discuss it after you explain your support for Iran, a country that squishes the free speech of citizens from other countries and puts out hits on them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

my post about the Mossad being a low bar to aspire to, also stands.

Heh. At least you know what countries we are talking about now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

BTW, who says I 'support Israel so much'. I said I agreed with this action. That does not mean I support Israel so much.

So you support the murder of a scientist you really don't know anything about; interesting.

So I guess you would also agree with the killing of Israeli scientists; nah, I somehow don't think you would.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi - the difference is you are a wholehearted supporter of Ahmadinejad, "because he is always unjustly attacked by the lying MSM."

What are they (MSM) lying about? Do you have proof?

You hate Israel, period. That's your position.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi,

You have a question pending and that is why you support Iran so much. As I have pointed out: the government of Iran ordered a regular citizen of another country to be killed merely for writing a fiction novel.

Deal with this first and then perhaps we can discuss other countries in the world when the articles are about them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

thetruthhurts,

You have a question pending and that is why you support Iran so much.

Its not that I support Iran so much, its just that we have seen the destruction of Iraq and Afghanistan (and murder of countless civilians) based on lies; and we are seeing the same pattern directed at Iran, again based on lies. Those who do not know about the MSM lies, really should get a clue.

That fact that this Rushdie fatwa is all you can come up with as a reason for Iran not having nuclear POWER is quite reassuring. Also reassuring is the fact that they have not attacked any other country in centuries.

Now compare Iran's situation with that of Israel, who continues to illegally occupy land from its neighbours, has recently murdered thousands of unarmed civilians in Gaza and Lebanon, refuses to join the NPT and ignores countless UN resolutions, has been accused by the UN of committing war crimes, has built a nuclear arsenal in secret, and has a long history of committing false flags and may one day carry one out with a nuclear weapon.

You support the actual murder of scientist you know nothing about but appear so upset that Iran has a fatwa on an author who criticized their religion.

BTW, your continually bringing this up and pretending not to understand my posts, and your overall style resembles that of a previous poster...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sabiwabi,

I think you have it the other way around. You are not understanding (or pretending to not understand) my opinion. My opinion is that Iran is a dangerous country. The reason I have this opinion is because the government of Iran considers merely writing a fiction novel as reason for being put to death. I see this as very dangerous and I further see a country such as Iran having the technology to make nuclear weapons as dangerous. I think this opinion, whether you agree or not is quite clear. You still neglect to comment on it. I have no idea why you cannot do so. I further find it curious because since I have bumped into you I have noticed you commenting about a supposed lack of freedom to say what you wish. Do you deny that freedom to others?

As to the murder of the scientist, it is sad that this man had to lose his life for a country that is willing to murder people merely for their thoughts. However in my opinion, if it means that Iran, which is the very country that sanctions murdering innocent citizens of other countries merely because they write a fiction novel, will not have the technology to develop nuclear weapons it is a sad but necessary sacrifice for the sake of mankind.

BTW, I never said I knew nothing about the scientist. To be accurate, I was suggesting you did not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That fact that this Rushdie fatwa is all you can come up with as a reason for Iran not having nuclear POWER is quite reassuring. Also reassuring is the fact that they have not attacked any other country in centuries.

Still, Iran has to agree to more transparency when it comes to its civilian nuclear ambition. I'll say the same to other countries looking into nuclear power-- and I support nuclear power-- including some in ASEAN, India-Pak, and of course Australia (to be debated next year in ALPs general conference).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The reason I have this opinion is because the government of Iran considers merely writing a fiction novel as reason for being put to death.

You're not basing your presumptions based on Reading Lolita in Tehran are you?! Check NYT's article "Women Writing Novels Emerge as Stars in Iran" written on the year Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected Prez.

Moderator: Back on topic please.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jruaustralia,

While the article you suggested is interesting, my opinion is not based on presumptions. It is based on simple fact. Fact that the Iranian government continues to back up and it is a very scary fact indeed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

(Sticking with the article and almighty relevance of course)

Iran's transparency on its nuclear ambition needed greater scrutiny. I think the regime needs to be more transparent to satisfy their int'l critics that obviously include the GoJ and some in the Asian region.

However, it's based on simple facts that Iran's opposition is no different to the subject of nuclear power...

These people might promise regime change, minor foreign and internal policy shifts (and rub shoulders with int'l celebrities, like the Nobel laureate Shirin EBADI teaming up with Giorgio ARMANI) but they too won't back down over this country's nuclear power ambition. And the simple fact remains that the opposition, too, will pursue nuclear power as much as Ahmadinejad.

If you think there'll be change, in Iran, when this current regime is long gone ... then obviously you've been misled.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

But for now, I think, the message should be that Iran has to agree to more transparency when it comes to its civilian nuclear ambition. And the Iranians should heed to calls, esp. calls from our own Asian region for greater accountability and cooperation.
