Wait! Before I blindly criticize Iran for this act of aggression and because Iran is ruled by a nuke-loving dictator who hates gays and all that...I know another country that carries out attacks across international borders, has loads of nukes and generally don't like gays much either.

Which country could that be?

Sushi, if we had done this you'd be up in arms, protesting the US government. Oh wait, you already are.

Wait! If I was the type of person who wanted to deceive people into believing I actually cared about ordinary Iranians, I would use this cross border attack as a cheap excuse to highlight how the evil Iranian regime doesn't let women attend school. Then I would bring up how Iran - unlike other countries - engages in capital punishment. Not by injecting criminals with a lethal cocktail of chemicals and letting them squirm in agony, but by throwing stones at them ...as if it makes a difference.

No, I admit this pre-emptive attack on another country to stop foreign terrorists from attacking hard-working Iranians at home is just dastardly.

For twenty years or so, Iran continues to have a hit out on a civilian person merely for writing a book.

Before the punishment comes the crime. Children even know this. So are you saying that you are, for example, ok with the Iranian regime stoning adulterers to death?

Since the article is about Iran and Iraq I guess you are trying to say you believe Iraq has/had nukes...

The article states very clearly in the first line: "Iranian forces crossed into neighboring Iraq and killed 30 fighters from a group it says was involved in last week’s bombing of a military parade"

They did not cross into Iraq to stone an adulterer.

Anyway, I can think of a "country" that has more than once, with America's blessing, murdered over 1000 civilians for much less than bombing a parade.

Nowhere does it say they invaded with UN permission. Will the same UN that constantly singles out other players in the region condemn these actions? ? ?

Anyway, I can think of a "country"

That's fascinating. I'm thinking of a number from one to ten. However, neither of these have anything to do with this article.

Anyway, as long as the Iranian soldiers went back over the border, I see no reason to get too upset about this. However, I would question the wisdom of repeating this kind of thing too often.

I think it wiser to be upset that Iran can't bring itself to cancel its hit on a civilian writer of another country for his merely writing a novel.

Its nice to see that the Revolutionary Guards announced this on state TV, they took credit for their actions instead of sneaking in using fake passports copied from "friendly" nations.

Once the US is out of Iraq, Iran will start fighting with them.

Yes, the Iranian government has also announced their continued call for a hit on Rushdie. I am not sure what is to be admired about Iran announcing something as obvious as their troops crossing the border. For one thing, this is not the first time it has happened and Iran generally does not come right out and admit it when they do it.

Sadly, in that part of the world these over the border skirmishes are so common as to be commonplace.

Yea, that's the thing that most people overlook. Ever since the U.S. got rid of Saddam, Iran has been licking it's chops, and doing all it can to thwart a peaceful handover. Once the U.S. leaves completely, it's only a matter of time before these incidents slowly escalate until either Iran full out invades Iraq (again) or it covertly installs a puppet government.

Despite how much people like to point the finger at "evil," there's no easy way out of this situation.

Most people think the Arab states are united against Israel, but Iran is the one they fear most.

They're crazy (or at least the government), they've got nukes, plenty of resources, and their land is very easily defensible.

Iran specifically went after the bombers that murdered about a dozen Iranians. They did not bomb weddings or wreck Iraq's infrastructure, they only got the bombers.

Iran supplied the 'insurgents' - the terrorist scum in Iraq - with IEDs, as they do in Afghanistan.

Iran is ruled by a nuke-loving dictator

Iran is not ruled by a nuke loving dictator but an elected president who has spoken for the abolishment of all nuclear weapons.

Maybe, yes. Maybe, no. As you know, it often takes the truth some time to see the light of day.

British soldiers have claimed in the past that Iran's soldiers had been spotted border crossing and attacking them in the past. Certainly as far as in-fighting goes, it would not be that unheard of for Iran to be supporting its allies in Iraq as they do in Lebanon and Gaza.

Best comment ever. Who was supplying the Mujahidins in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion? Who was supplying Iraq (and Iran) during the Iran-Iraq war? Who is supplying who? Iran, US, China, Russia, France, etc are playing the same game. Fair?

It's probably in Iran's best interests to not make a habit of this.

Until Iraq has enough soldiers and equipment to secure its' borders you will always have Iran and many other countries like Turkey that are willing to help secure and destroy these terrorist land areas.

Countries like Iran, Russia and North Korea don't mess around. =If you are anywhere close to near the border expect to be nabbed/shot or Nationalized on the spot.

"Iran is predominantly Shiite"

So is Iraq. Which is why both countries suck.
