Oppression and a economic hardship are what brought down the Shah. One wonders how the Ayatollahs forgot that.

Let us all pray that this could be the beginning of the end of a government that does NOT respect nor tolerate democratic values.

I think is too optimistic to think this will mean a long lasting change, but it is nice to think it would be possible so I don't blame people for hoping.

Officials have denied that security forces have killed protesters, suggesting they may have been shot by armed dissidents.

Taking a "deflection" page from other authoritarian govts. We all know it isn't true, so why do they even bother?

This doesn't look like a mass protest. Doubt anything will come from it until 100K+ people show up and force Supreme Leader Ayatollah into jail.

And don’t forget that all of this was done at the behest of and with the full support of the United States. People are a lot more willing to support totalitarianism if it’s homegrown.
