IS? Israel? He must have become a target for some reason, but we’ll probably never know what was really going on behind the scenes.

The thing is that if he'd been a high ranking member of the Israeli regime's military forces, he would be described as a civilian victim of a terror attack because he was retired, rather than his retirement from the forces being ignored and all sorts of insinuations drawn about what he might have done to deserve being gunned down in the street in front of his home.

Although the Guard gave only scant detail about the attack that occurred in broad daylight in the heart of Iran's capital, the group blamed the killing on “global arrogance,” typically code for the United States and Israel.

No, the killing was a response to Iran's global terrorism.
