50 deaths already is an outrageously high figure, even for a whole country, let alone a single city. So how many are infected then?

Something is not right here.

The number of deaths compared to the number of confirmed infections from the virus is higher in Iran than in any other country, including China and South Korea, where the outbreak is far more widespread.

Probably because they don't have access to quality medical equipment and facilities due to sanctions.

Hmmm... It must be 50 confirmed cases in Qom, (not deaths) and the parliamentarian just got it wrong.

Hard to find accuracy here.

I read the figure of 50 deaths has been disputed but the number infected has also been regarded as as an underestimation.

Virus may have mutated?

Doctors' have a math for how many are actually infected. X times 50 illnesses Equals, so 50 death times 50 illnesses is 2,500 illnesses so far for the Republic of Iran.

But J Yahoo has meanwhile been updating and reporting an official announcement of 12 deaths in Iran as of today.

The mortality rate for the new corona virus is 2%, so 50 is 2% of what? Then you now the total. That's 2,500 cases so far.

The lack of details is more staggering than the news! Without the details I cannot even make an educated guess on if they just botched care for these people or if its the virus itself that needs to be blamed. However, considering all the information I have and trust so far, I would lean toward them botching it, something like cramming a bunch of sick old people together in a crowded hospital wing. ie hasty and improper quarantine even worse than the Diamond Princess.

Since when does the media in a totalitarian nation ever tell the truth?

Well hopefully, it’s just 50 cases, not 50 deaths. And yeah, that wouldn’t make much sense, there being only 47 cases, and all of a sudden 50 deaths. Even with a totalitarian government, something is very wrong with those figures.

Because also, do you guys remember the protests a month or so ago? You know that the Iranian government wouldn’t want a repeat of that, due to covering up something as serious as the coronavirus. And don’t think that it wouldn’t happen, oh no, it would totally happen!

WHO chied Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference in Stockholm via a video link.

Why would this guy be angry or scolding people at a WHO press conference? Were the people he was talking to behaving badly? Is he scolding the Iranians?

There are a lot of Chinese construction and engineering projects in Iran.
