To much of the American government establishment is obsessed with punishing Iran for daring to be a democracy that successfully revolted against the US to allow it to ever actually live up to the deal. Even Obama couldn't get the US to come close to even minimum requirements.

When the Supreme Leader dies, then we can start constructive talks. That position is a lifetime position. Until that point, there is little reason for the US to be involved. It is a dictatorship until he is gone. The other Iranian leaders are just figureheads.

Ah, the profoundness of cultivated ignorance.
Being selected by the directly elected Assembly to fill the office of 'Leader of the Revolution' doesn't make you dictator, or even give you job security. Indeed, the Assembly can fire the 'Supreme Leader' easier than any employer in Japan can fire an employee (no notice, no payout, no need to claim cause, just a 'you're fired')
