I remember my mother shocking me with stories about just how stuck in the past and repressive Ireland was when she was a girl. She still has a lot of affection for the place but told me she had to get out.
Great to see it throwing off religious and reactionary ideas.

I guess many Irish are sick and tired of the dirty little secrets and hypocrisy of the catholic church. Same sex marriage, abortion, divorce, one by one, the walls are tumbling down.

Most Catholics accept divorce, it is just the church which doesn't and wants it to be very, very, difficult.
One of my sisters is still married in the eyes of the church to the guy she married to get out of the house at 18. Since then, she's been married 2 more times in the eyes of the law.

“After divorce, a woman gets deposited more than what a man's salary when received. He gets nothing but to do overtime all his life. She keeps enjoying her life.
This is the law in most countries, even in Britain and Japan.
Woman's Power already there is and has been for decades. Such a shame yet a man keeps wagging his tail when he sees another woman.”
This is, without question, the “least informed” comment I have seen here in a while (and that’s saying something)
Fact: a majority of single parent households live below the poverty line in Japan.

While I don't agree with the backpacker's comments, both his comment and yours could be true. The wife could get more money, and still be below the poverty line.
