And as I said, if any government takes my home from me by force to give to someone else simply because I am in the view of this government a member of a disfavored religion is the day I take up arms and fight.

I am shocked that you would want to use a weapon, that many on your side believe you shouldn’t have a right to own, to kill a representative of the government to impose its social justice laws on the people. I think this is a good example of the American founders view of individual rights. They understand that when rights are on groups over individuals that injustices can occur. Well done.

Desert Tortoise: There is no "UN law" that created Palestine.

How does this statement square with the following;

Israel's legal UN approved borders are the borders that existed before the 1967 Arab Israeli War.

Either you believe the UN’s creation of two states is legitimate or not. There was a UN resolution that created the states of Israel and Palestine. There was never a nation called Palestine in existence before the UN created it. The British wanted to get rid of the problem and the UN stepped in. If the UN cannot make law then their are a lot of illegitimate laws that nations are following.

They rejected the UN law that created Palestine because they rejected the two state solution - they have always and continue to reject the two state solution. They don’t accept Israel’s right to exist and you can’t get a Palestinian leader to say it without risking assassination by Hamas/ Iran or some other Islamist radical.

There is no "UN law" that created Palestine. Before the formation of Israel Palestine was a British protectorate, land captured during WWI from the Ottoman Empire the status of which was yet to be settled when WWII erupted across the region as German and Italian forces stormed the area. After WWII the UK sought to rid itself of the land. But as far back as the late 1800s Jews fleeing Russian and Polish pogroms were settling in Palestine clashing with local Arabs and British Army.

Israel's legal UN approved borders are the borders that existed before the 1967 Arab Israeli War. Under the terms of the several Geneva Conventions nations man not annex lands captured in the course of fighting a war. They must be returned. That means under the law of war Israel must return to its pre 1967 war boundaries and all lands taken from Arab families in the occupied West Bank and Gaza returned to their rightful owners. That is the only legal course of action under international law.

And as I said, if any government takes my home from me by force to give to someone else simply because I am in the view of this government a member of a disfavored religion is the day I take up arms and fight. No government has the right to do that. We are not talking imminent domain proceedings to clear a right of way for public infrastructure. This is a case of the people of one religion forcibly displacing and often killing the people of another religion for purely religious reasons. It is unjust under international law.

If a nation came along and forced me off my property to hand it over to someone else of a different, favored, religion I guarantee you I would pick up arms and fight.

If the property is worth enough the nation you live in could force your children to sell the property to pay the taxes - essentially forcing them off their inherited land. But that isn’t the issue with the Palestinians. They, a people called Palestinians, did not have a country before the UN created Israel and Palestine after the war. They rejected the UN law that created Palestine because they rejected the two state solution - they have always and continue to reject the two state solution. They don’t accept Israel’s right to exist and you can’t get a Palestinian leader to say it without risking assassination by Hamas/ Iran or some other Islamist radical.

The Tea party (Bibi) is being replaced with trump, marjorie Taylor Green, Gaetz, and the Proud Boys (new coalition).

The trump and party (new coalition) wants to protect the confederate statues ( Israel illegal confiscation of Palestinian homes and land for Jewish settlers). They will defend their supporters running over protesters (settlers attacking Palestinian families robbing and arson).

That is the perfect analogy for this new coalition.

The votes are counted. Bibi is out.

Bibi is out. Naftali Bennet has been sworn in as the new Israeli PM.

I should have said "Israel's legal boundaries as defined by the UN are their pre-1967 boundary.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Can't stop what they never started.

Israel's legal boundaries as defined by the US are their pre-1967 boundary. Under the current laws of war as defined by the several Geneva Conventions a nation cannot keep land captured in the course of fighting a war. It must be returned to the nation from which it was taken after the conclusion of the war. Israel occupies land taken from Jordan, Syria and Egypt in the 1967 and 1973 wars, builds homes on these for Jews and forces out the native Arab and Christian inhabitants (since the Israelis consider Christians to be Arabs) taking their land from them by force to hand over to Jewish settlers to build their own homes on. Worse still it basically imprisons Arabs in confined areas of occupied lands in Gaza and the West Bank.

I don't know about you but I am a property owner. No bank owns my properties either. I own them outright and expect to pass them along to my heirs. If a nation came along and forced me off my property to hand it over to someone else of a different, favored, religion I guarantee you I would pick up arms and fight. It is the most natural thing in the world and the reason why the Palestinians will not settle with Israel until they have a right to return to their land. As a land owner I cannot disagree with that sentiment.

I don't remember any cities being burned down last year. So you think America should cancel all foreign aid, including Israel? They need the aid.

Israel is a net energy exporter. They don't need the US taxpayers money any more. Let them sell their oil and gas like the Arabs do to finance their arsenals and their wars.

New Israeli leadership has been much needed for a long time. The old leader ruined the peace process and has tarnished the image of Israel around the world.

II's a done deal. Israel is swearing in a new government. That stupid Gaza war is blowing up in Nutty Yahoo's face. The Israeli parliament has voted for a new coalition government, ending 12 years of Yahoo's crap. He'd better be boarding a yellow submarine like the one used at demonstrations against his misrule last year.

Off to Pepperland or jail for you, Yahoo!

Ok Zichi--help me out--for which candidate did the voters vote more than 32%?

Ouch! That truth bomb must have been painful.

I can give one possible explanation for why Netanyahu hasn’t been able to garner more support. He has been in power too long. He should have retired long ago. One person in power for too long is not healthy for a democracy. Human failings being what they are, people can lose sight of their responsibilities when they become too accustomed to their elevation status and power. The people can sense this and begin to feel like it’s time to move on. His failure to retire and renew his leadership has undermined his party to some extent. He counted too much on the dysfunction of his opponents.

I think you meant protect the lands Israel confiscated from Palestinians.

The UN gave the Palestinians a homeland and they turned it down. They rejected the lands that they accuse Israel of taking from them. Yhey rejected this territory because they would not accept a two state solution with Israel. You can’t lose something you never accepted as legitimately yours based upon your international law.

Netanyahu understands this - it’s yet to be seen if the opposition arrayed against Likud will as well. Many on the global Left like Ilhan Omar, AOC, the British Labour Party, the rump followers of Barack H. Obama et al would love to see Israel wiped off the face of the map. It’s up to Israel if they will allow this to happen to themselves.

I thought Iraq was a democracy. No? Not there yet? I wonder which country receives more aid from American tax-payers, Israel or Iraq?

Iraq.

KumagaijinToday  08:48 pm JST

I'd happily live in Gaza, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, even Syria than live in Netanyahu's Israel.

Yeah, right. 20% of Israeli citizens are Arabs. They can leave anytime and go live in Gaza, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, even Syria.

They don't.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Because of your policies Israel stands as the leader in the Middle East, and as there only democracy there, which is why Arabs prefer living in Israel than in any other Arab country.

This is interesting. Who are the Palestinians? What country are they from? What lands? These Palestinians you refer to had land confiscated from them? When? Where? This is a new historical narrative you are creating.

Time to vote out all these faux autocrats and dictator-wanna-be's....Trump, Netanyahu, Bolsonaro, Erdogan, etc...

They have more in common with Putin and Xi than they do with Biden, Merkel, Macron, and Johnson...

Show them that we believe in democracy and the rule of law...

Interesting that most of them are under criminal investigation...let them play their strong-man act where it might do them some good - behind bars in a cell block....

Bye Bye Bibi

Thanks Bibi for your service. Because of your policies Israel stands as the leader in the Middle East, and as there only democracy there, which is why Arabs prefer living in Israel than in any other Arab country.

The new leader will continue to protect Israel from terrorist attacks that kill innocent Israeli civilians, and to protect Israel's lands from those trying to occupy it.
