As a first step, we need to stop focusing on “rounds”, “escalations”, and “extremist acts”, and start recognizing the ongoing routine of the oppression and dehumanization of the Palestinian people – the systematic uprooting and dispossession of Palestinians, every day over the past century.

It's an apartheid. Let Israel exist and own what is theirs and give back to the Palestinians what is their own.

He then called his police chief (likud member)in Jerusalem and had him start illegally evicting palestinians from their homes and closed off access to worship areas for muslims in one of the largest festivals of their yearly calender abd allowed the rightwing settler crazies to march through the remaining palestinian enclaves taunting them.... I'm reluctant to take sides on this conflict, but painting Israel as a simple victim is criminally simplistic.

The only way Israel will change is if it's made to pay a price for its criminal behavior.

First, enforce the Leahy Law which forbids America supplying weapons to foreign armies that commit human rights abuses.

Second, withdraw America's automatic veto that protects Israel on the UN Security Council.

Third, throw America's support behind the International Criminal Court's ongoing investigation of Israeli war crimes.

Fourth, ban all goods from illegal Israeli settlements.

It's utter hypocrisy for the Biden administration to criticize China's treatment of the Uighurs and then turn a blind eye to a country that practices apartheid and routinely commits war crimes. Human rights apply to all humans not just the victims of America's enemies.

What a lot of people don't understand is the fundamental reasoning behind Israel's brutal actions: their completely mistaken belief that they are God's chosen people and that they have a divine right to 'Eretz Israel'. that is the whole geographical area encompassing all of what was formerly known as Palestine. They will never rest until they grab the whole area and drive the Palestinians completely out. That is their end game goal.

1917: The Balfour Declaration (by the occupying British) gave them the right to return to the area after 2000 years of exile

1948: The UN partitioned the land to divide it between the Arabs and the Jews

1967: Israel grabbed a greater portion of the land

1967 onwards: Israel has been grabbing land ever since

Now a question for defenders of Israel's actions: How would you like it if all of the above was done by a foreign power to YOUR country and they drove you out or into refugee homes? So here we are , 30 plus comments in, and nobody has addressed the actual point/headline of the article, which is Hamas digging tunnels to Israel. And the other point, that Hamas has fifteen THOUSAND rockets ready to use against Israeli civilians. Neither of these can in any way be seen as "defensive measures". They are clearly designed to murder and destroy. The IDF has a moral obligation to eliminate both as soon as possible. The fact that they are trying to do so while at the same time minimizing civilian losses is a testament to their moral strength and the justice of their cause.

I feel for the innocent people trapped in Gaza. They should perhaps escape into Egypt, after all Egypt and Gaza share a border. From there, the Sinai is a huge and empty place. THey could easily set up homes there and go about their lives.
