Israel is not a democracy. It's an authoritarian regime.

This is all part of a general crackdown on dissent in Israel as the government goes after not just journalists, but NGOs, artists and activists who don't toe the party line. Next up is the nation state bill currently before the Knesset that states: "the right to realize self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people". Israel is about to get its very own version of the Nuremberg Laws.

Getting rid of the press won't stop the need for an independent Palestine.

"tenants" seems to be quite apt given Al Jazeera's stay in Israel is only temporary.

Very good post. While I've got no time for the revolting Netanyahu, some of the views coming out of Al Jazeera are sickening. I remember the foul Al Qaradawi was a regular on this network ( a man who has found it difficult to travel to some countries due to his questionable views ).

I'm quite extreme when it comes to allowing freedom of speech, but even I'd be a bit uncomfortable with some of the types you see on Al Jazeera.

The Al Jazeera English we are all familiar with is significantly different from the Al Jazeera Arabic that few of us have ever watched (apart from the odd outrageously antisemitic clip that gets translated on Youtube). If there was a network being piped into Japan that constantly hosted guests who called for the extermination of ethnic Koreans, I wonder how many people above would be calling for it to be banned. Nobody likes censorship but there are limits to free speech.

Israel is not a democracy. It's an authoritarian regime.

It is still a democratic state. Or is America now also an authoritarian regime just because of Trump has been elected?

It is indeed unique to 'the Jewish people' since this is the precise language from the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine which legitimised the creation of the state of Israel. They aren't using this language out of religious zealotry, it is a legal issue. It is what it is. If you don't like the language in your country's own Declaration of Independence, sorry it can't just be changed.

@chugmagaga

With the best pro-Palestinian will in the world, I can't recall it ever being an "independent state". A Roman/Byzantine province, maybe. A British colony, maybe. But surely never a state.

Still, we live in hope....

Aljazeerah just show you the mirror, if you don't like to see your real face don't watch it, watch Fox news.

Al Jazeera have all kinds of dangerous religious crackpots on it.

Not a mirror for me.

Israel is no more a democracy than South Africa was when Mandela was a prisoner. And those who contend that Balfour/the UN legitimized the Israeli regime and it policy of refusing residency and voting rights to half it's population (the Refugees) have overlooked the central part of those statements/motions/declarations that all said the rights of the population (which includes the Refugees) were more important than the rest of what was stated.

Palestine was and will become an independent state very soon. Aljazeerah just show you the mirror, if you don't like to see your real face don't watch it, watch Fox news.

Al Jazeera is the most trustworthy and even handed news source available in America and almost the only news source who covers the Middle East in any way other than through the American propaganda lens. When Al Jazeera reports the brutal murders of unarmed Palestinians by zionists, the zionists call it 'incitement' because they want no one aware of what they do daily. If Al Jazeera were banned, the people in the Gaza Concentration Camp would have no voice whatsoever. Again, of the 10 or so news sources I read daily, I have found Al Jazeera to be the most even handed in its reporting. RT is somewhat reliable, and JToday seems to do fairy well but American sources (the least reliable), the Tehran Times, Beijing Bulletin, et alia, all report on the Mideast largely by omission. No one on the planet hides what it does more than do the zionists and anyone who tells the truth is their enemy. This behavior is identical to the German press of the 1930s except that it is more difficult for the zionists to put courageous Al Jazeera reporters into prison camp, albeit Egypt is doing that right now. Depending on one or two sources for reporting instills a kind of blindness whereas broad reading of events across many national interests allows one to 'average out' the truth and, again, Al Jazeera has the best record for this in my own experience.

Interesting how the silence from the msm regarding censorship is deafening. Can't imagine if it was say,cnn getting booted from say, Iran. Only democracy in the ME ei?

I digress tho.

I'm quite extreme when it comes to allowing freedom of speech, but even I'd be a bit uncomfortable with some of the types you see on Al Jazeera.

And it's your right to feel that way. Just like the right to express oneself no matter how you feel about it is sacred.

Oh! You mean that mandate that was based off of the balfour declaration that stemmed from a premise that held to the beliefs of the old testament? That mandate?
