This is NOT a good idea, I think. Kind of like adding a bit more "GASOLINE" to the "fire" of that so called "holy land."

occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day war then annexed, in a move still unrecognized by the international community.

That's right, it is inadmissible to acquire land by war. UNSC resolutions have demanded that Israel return the stolen land, but they ignore everything, and THEY GET AWAY WITH IT!!!!

Seidemann said that the plans were approved last year…

Yeah, approved by the Israelis, the same who are committing this crime.

Geez, Bluescript is correct and he gets more that 12 thumb downs?? I want to see all of these Pro Israeli posters have the the decency to at least DEFEND their comments, like hey GOD said we own Israel etc..so we just pushed them infidel Palestinians the hell off, etc..??? (So which GOD told who what??) Thank GOD I do not believe in any one GOD! NMRK!

Hola Elbuda Mexicano,

I don't bother with the thumbs down, if you click my ID and check my posts, you'll notice that they all have a comparable number of thumbs down, regardless of the topic or what I post. Most of the thumbs down are probably from the same guy who enjoys changing IDs and going through that list. Few posters bother responding to any of my comments.

But this case, it's impossible to defend the expanding settlements. God is definitely not a real estate agent and just because Jews lived there a long long time ago...

The antisemitic bias in the media is amazing. The daily shower of rocket and other attacks from e.g. Gazah on Israeli civilians hardly gets any mention, yet Israel gets lambasted for building 1000 homes in its own capitol city.

And to speak of East Jerusalem as an "annexed" territory is absurd anyway. East Jerusalem is the old part of the city, containing the central symbols of Jewish culture. When Jordan occupied East Jerusalem in the 60s, Jews were barred from visiting their own holiest sites. The equivalent would be Israel occupying the center of Mecca.... what do you think the reaction would be to that?

If the PA had any intention to live in peace with the Jewish state, then building 1000 homes would not even be an issue. But for the muslim Arabs, even the physical presence of Jews in their neighbourhood is offensive. Some partners in peace.

That some posters here have bought into the antisemitic propanda spread by Hamas, the PLO etc. is truly sad.

Bluescript : That's right, it is inadmissible to acquire land by war

Are you aware that most land on the planet has been acquired through wars?

Bluescript:

" it is inadmissible to acquire land by war "

There is a difference between aggressive conquest (such as Nazi Germany, and also, for that matter, the Ottoman Empire), and a war of self-defense such as the 1967 6-day war. ESPECIALLY so when the territory occupied (in this case the West Bank and East Jerusalem) was had been previously illegally occupied by Jordan.

So please check some history before repeating polemical talking points.

Tell that to all of the countries that invaded Israel after it was partitioned by the UN. I'm guessing they were planning on taking the whole thing over.

UNSC resolutions have demanded that Israel return the stolen land, but they ignore everything, and THEY GET AWAY WITH IT!!!!

And Arabs have used terrorism as a means to an end, and they get away with it.

You're not providing any solutions, just anger.

The puzzlement that continues is why the Jews continue to do these things...

You actually mean, how the Palestinians and especially Hezbollah controlled Gaza can constantly think that by using terror that Israel will ever think to capitulate, get on their knees and beg them to stop using terror to force Israel to get what they want. As long as you and I live, that will never, ever happen. As to why Hezbollah can't get it through their heads is the real and pure puzzlement that always befuddles me. he Jews want peace, pure and simple, if Hezbollah would renounce their terrorist ways, that can happen very easily, but they don't so they shouldn't expect toy surprise at the bottom of a box.

There is no serious scholar who accepts this

Curious, I did a search about this. This was the second hit. To paraphrase, it seems that for some, that clock started when they created their new user name. For others, it apparently started much earlier. This certainly does seem to explain a lot of things.

As for the often-mentioned borders of 67, Israel entered the West Bank after being attacked by Egypt, Jordan, and Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War. No serious scholar, even Israeli, says that today. Regarding the U.N Security Council Resolution 242, you forgot to mention that it emphasized the "inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war". What part of inadmissible do you not understand?

Israel is a tiny country, amd it is democratic and free. Its Capital, from ancient times, has been Jerusalem. That will never change. It is surrounded by hostile Arab nations with a desire to wipe Israel off the map and destroy every last Jewish person in the country. Most of these Arab States are umdemocratic and unfree, they are enslaved by Shariah Laws and harbour terrorists who will do anything to destroy Israel. Israel deserves the support of the Free World. Israel, and many more leople like myself, do not give a toss about what "International Law" states or decrees, since it is mostly Marxist and anti Israel in origin anyway. Israel is one of the few countries in the world today which fights for its people and also is proud of its own sovereignty, u like many Western nations which have sold their countries to sunserviemce to outside powers, like the EU. More power to the Israelis for taking this bold and good step of building more homes in the eastern section of their Capital. This year marks 65 years of freedom, and counting! Long live Israel!
