Israel left Gaza in 2005 after a 38-year occupation, but still controls its border crossings. The Islamic Hamas militants seized control of Gaza in June 2007.

..and then turned it into their personal rocket launching pad. Lovely reciprocation.

Get ready for another war...This conflict is the perfect example of failed and greedy politics. 1971 was the perfect opportunity for this region to accept peace, instead Israel and the US preferred to perpetuate this comflict by not supporting the peace/territorial agreement. Hope for the best.

Israel warns Hamas because Hamas want freedom and equality. These Palestinians, how dare they demand equality!

Any person who believes people should have the same human rights despite religion or race would support the Palestinian cause.

Just take the Gaza back.

Level the playing field and play by HAMAS rules. No need to mount a military operation. Israel announces that for every unguided missle and mortar attack launched on her, Gaza receives exactly the same.

Provide a warning siren so the Gaza citizens can scramble into shelters and have to guess where they will hit. Announce that is the way its going to be from now on. HAMAS launches a rocket, Israel launches one back using the same low tech.

That's fair isn't it? HAMAS really can't complain then about the method used to retailate.

You miss a crucial detail into your equation. Gaza is under a siege. Palestinians are not free. If Palestine was an independent state and if Gaza was independent then thre would be some truth to what you say.

Every Palestinian leader together with every country in the UN Security counsil demands Israel to retreat to the 1967 borders. Israel was created by destroying 500 towns and villages and terrorising the majority of people out of their homes into refugee camps. This historic fact Israel and the western countries need to come to terms with if they ever dream of peace and stability in Israel/Palestine.

Hamas has agreed to make a state according to the 1967 borders.

Utter nonsense. If they wanted the 1967 borders they'd stop launching rockets, have a period of peace, then start negotiations. The militants are trying to take back land by force because that's all their elders ever taught them to do....blow stuff up.

So does Mandela support terrorism against Israel?

The terrorism against Israel is due to Israeli terrorism against the Palestinians. If we are to speak of terrorism both parties are at fault if we are to speak of who started terrorism first it was Israel as the creation of Israel was a sheer act of terror. One is committing acts of terror to maintain oppression the other is committing acts of terror to become free.

UN resolution 242 which every single Palestinian leader have agreed to and every country in the UN Security Counsil have agreed to demands Israel to retreat to 1967 borders. Israel has done the exact opposite by making new settlements. EVery new settlement being built in West Bank is therefore illeagal.

the first thing that needs to occur is the end of senseless killings. Hamas attacks and Israel retaliates. Contrary to what the pro palestinian crowd purports, this viscous cycle will not end even if Israel pulls back to its 1967 borders; the same borders it's arab neighbors tried to wipe out completely but failed miserably. It will only end when the arabs recognize Israel's right to exist or are successful in destroying it. Israel defending itself is not terrorism.

I have to say that the time for Israel to show restraint is at an end. They have a deeper agenda now. The Iran threat. I reckon they will start to flex their muscle a bit more this time. A real time war game for a real time threat. Hamas would be best not to antagonize Israel at this time however if they ceased to do so they would lose their Iranian sponsorship. You see the problem?

Hamas is on its last leg. It will finally be purged from the earth in 2009.

Wouldn't that be nice. And you can throw in Islamic Jihad and Fatah and Hezbollah and PFLP and Al-Aqsa Brigade and PFLP and Al Qaeda and... too many Islamic terrorist groups to list.

Israel withdrew from Gaza and instead of reducing tensions and creating better conditions for peace we've seen Hamas turn the land into a war zone, not only using the land to attack Israel but killing other Palestinians in the process. How can one look at the situation today and honestly say that returning more land is a near-term solution? Perhaps in the long term it is, and I believe that's true, but until Hamas can demonstrate that they won't use Israeli concessions to kill more Israelis they've made concessions look more like a death sentence than a path to peace.

creation of Israel was a sheer act of terror. "Well, you point kind of throws a monkey wrench into the "move back from the 67' borders" doesn't it?

and if the "creation of Israel was a sheer act of terror", I wonder what you think of the entire Western Hemisphere is/was.

Now, if the Palestinians accepted to live side by side peacefully with Israel, don't you think the supporters of the Palestinians would get upset? This issue is not just about the two parties, there is a lot of instigating going on.

Let's send Bill Clinton to offer an olive branch. If anything he could teach the Hammas guys how to bang their heads, and teach the Israeli soldiers to polish their helmets.
