Putting religious zealots on duty against unarmed Palestinians in the West Bank , an area the zealots claim as a ""gift from God " is clearly an error and failure of judgement of the IDF.

The statement that one in five reported cases of abuses relates to the zealot group is proof enough.

Put them on the front line against an adversary who is armed .

Right you are Mick!

US generous enough to give sanction only to single military unit, not the whole military.

Recent development mass grave were discovered after occupier left Khan Younis, among those are elderly Women and children.

.

Occupier followed tactics from war in former Yugoslavia.

Many religious men receive exemptions from what is supposed to be compulsory service.

This is the problem with the ultra zealots - they're the biggest pushers of war, yet they can be excused from military service due to religious studies

So they're not even risking their own lives, but rather putting other servicemen's lives to fight their wars

The sheer arrogance and ingratitude of Israel is astonishing. They get promised a who slew of extra money from the US and seem to take that as their right, while throwing the toys out their pram about this possible sanction. The more this goes on, the more reprehensible they seem and the more suspicious I get over American appeasement and indulgence of these tantrums, while American self-abasement is getting cringe-worthy.

“If anyone thinks they can impose sanctions on a unit in the IDF, I will fight it with all my might,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, is fighting Islamic terrorists on all fronts.

There is no time for silly sanctions, when Israel is protecting its lands and is defending against Arab settlers in Gaza and Judea and Samaria.

The Leahy Law, named for former Sen. Patrick Leahy, bars U.S. aid from going to foreign military units that have committed human rights abuses.

The IDF in its entirety is a human rights abuse. The US is arming, funding, supporting and enabling the Gaza genocide and ethnic cleansing of millions of people while attempting to use this ridiculous sanction as a fig leaf to somehow hide its complicity. These people are insane, utterly deranged:

Sigh, PM, listen to your military commanders, these ultra-religious soldiers are bad apples and must be weeded out in order to maintain the integrity of the IDF. If you can't see that, you should be sanctioned too.

Slowly but surely the tie are turning and the world is beginning to see Israel for what it is. never was and never will be the Israel that it claims it is until it embraces Democracy, Justice, and respect the human rights of ALL of it's citizens.

Occupation SUCKS Freedom ROCKS, end the Occupation Israel so you can live in Peace.

The Entire IGF Gang should be Sanctioned, if killing 34,000 people including 14,000 children is not a good enough reason to do then I don't know what is??

5 ( +8 / -3 )

The only confusing thing is why the sanctions are only being applied to this one unit. It's clear a culture of abuse and inpunity exists across the entire of Israel's military and political infrastructure and leadership.

The egregious Israeli exceptionalism aided and abetted by a hypocritical America & its junior partners that has placed the IDF's bestial atrocities paving the road to genocide above all international laws and continues to violate every standard and measure of humanitarianism and human decency has only ruined for generations the image of the racist ethno-state and left it more vulnerable than ever to the flowering seeds of hate they have sown among Arabs and, what to many may sound abstract but is nevertheless very real, as a consequence of all this pitiless mass killing, Israeli society will be from now on weakened from within by the poisonous seeds of guilt and PTSD lodged in the damaged psyche of returning zionist soldiers carrying with them all the soul-destroying baggage of their war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Who angry can the Israel IDF be when the USA taxpayers are paying for $20 billion more worth of bombs and missiles to kill Palestinian women and children?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

IDF needs to be given free reign to remove remaining terrorists, rescue hostages and protect innocent Palestinians.

And don't forget the dead grannies (see photo).

“The battalion is professionally and bravely conducting operations in accordance to the IDF Code of Ethics and with full commitment to international law,”

Yup, and that's why the entire gang should be Sanctioned.

Well yea. We support many allies around the world but Israel is acting like as bunch of, well I'm not going to say it.

Absolutely.

The IDF is succeeding in defeating the terrorists in Gaza, Judea and Samaria, in Lebanon, and in Syria. All the while it is putting Iran in its place.

I changed my mind, Bring on the silly sanctions and just watch Israel turn up the intensity even higher.

Some people aren't going to like it.

Are they or is this just more of that double standard that Hamas uses and that some liberals in the west has fallen for hook, line and sinker.

Seriously, there are leaders in the IDF that would like nothing more than to disband the 'Netzach Yehuda', but only for Israel's internal politics to stand in the way because the Haredi leadership refuses the IDF to draft its own sons and daughters into the IDF.

In terms of holding Netzach Yehuda to account, there is no shortage of evidence they are dealt with more harshly for their wrong doings than say US soldiers would in similar situation. But it does not surprise me at all, because the hypocritical waft in the air is always around when it comes to the IDF and western liberals.

Specifically Oct7, for the most part the IDF has been exemplary, remember it was the IDF that advised Benji against going into Gaza en masse.

https://www.jpost.com/american-politics/article-798150

Some Netzah Yehuda soldiers were sentenced to several months in jail for beating Palestinians. Would the US put its soldiers in prison for ten years for a beating that does not lead to permanent bodily damage?

or this

One thing Israel could do would be to go more public with its findings in each case and ask the US to explain precisely what it would have done differently. For example, in one case, the IDF did not prosecute in no small part because the Palestinians refused to grant access to an autopsy.

Oct 7th, exemplary? It was the worst security failure in Israeli history. Ignored warnings, no coordination within Israel, friendly fire. It was an unmitigated disaster. It showed that Israel's army is built for occupation. Not defence.

I'd agree that for the most part the IDF and generals show more restraint than the political leadership. But that's only by comparison. The IDF leadership look only slightly more rational than Netanyahu and his political coalition of extremist, genocidal Zionists.

@Shimon

10/7 did not happen in a vacuum, your 'exemplary' IDF and settlers have been responsible for the deaths of 2,404 children since 2000
