Israeli defense officials said Wednesday they believe Hezbollah has Scud missiles that could hit all of Israel,

This is probably one more baseless accusation; Israel does that a lot.

But even if it were true, so what? Everyone in the region needs protection from the Israelis, who have constantly committed war crimes against their neighbors and the Palestinians.

sabiwabi. Have you ever read what the Iranian president rants and raves about Israel? Wipe them off the face of the earth! Israel has a right to protect itself. I hope they take their war planes and hit the scuds.

Oh dear, not that again. He NEVER said that, get over it.

Why not? During the cold war we built nukes and Russia built nukes. As long as Israel has helicopters and guided missiles and rockets and nukes their neighbors are going to want their own protection.

Just a case of Israel crying again. Come protect us, we're so scared. < :-)

It's probably a good thing if they do.

Israel are going in with bulldozers, and demolishing homes with the occupants still inside. Do you really think that people who indulge in sickening senseless murder like that need protecting from their potential victims? Serve them right if they do get scudded, although I hope it never proves necessary. If they stop their genocide and further invasion it won't be necessary. (Cue all the usual rhetoric about how Jews should be allowed to exterminate anyone they like because of Auschwitz, and Palestinians are evil for objecting to having their land and homes ripped from them by Jews, not to mention being killed by them. This isn't about religion, it's about lives. Not just Jewish lives either. It's all so unnecessary, and hideously sad. For all involved.)

Sabiwabi:

Of course it is true, and of course it is Israel who is under constant threat from its muslim neighours and not the other way around.

But thanks for keeping us up date with the islamist propaganda spouted in muslim countries. That sets a nice background to understand the psychology in the area.

Dammit:

" Israel are going in with bulldozers, and demolishing homes with the occupants still inside. "

You seem to share the same new sources as Sabiwabi. Where´d you get that from, Al Jazeera? Of course, no information about when and where such a thing should have happened -- it doesn´t matter anyway. The evil Jews are always at fault.

When will Jews, Muslims ever get along? Give peace a chance!

Actually, WilliB, you are so wrong. And you don't need "Islamist" news sources to understand why; our views are supported by the UN and various respected human rights groups such as Amnesty International, as well as some Israeli ones. Your news sources are the ones that should be questioned, your views are typical zionist talking points.

They used to, and many still do today. The problem is neither the Jews nor the Muslims, its the zionists who are wrecking everything.

adaydream: Why not?

The article pretty much sums it up:

“In Syrian hands, it was rationally administered, and now it’s not clear that in the hands of Hezbollah it will be administered rationally,” he said.

Looks to me that hezbollah is about due to receive a preemptive strike.

It looks like the Lebanese Government seems pretty happy with Hezb'allah, as they've just authorized them to clear israelis off Lebanese soil:

"Lebanon's foreign minister says Hezbollah has been granted the right to use power against the occupation of Lebanese territories. Ali al-Shami told Press TV on Wednesday that the movement has been given the right by the government to liberate the country's occupied territories. He added that a recent government policy statement recognizes the Lebanese nation's right to liberate the territories remaining under the Israeli occupation. The foreign minister has also denounced Tel Aviv for infringing on his country's sovereignty. Shami said that since 2006, Israel violated Lebanese airspace for more than 6,500 times, despite the UN resolution 1701 which brought a 33-day Israeli waged war to an end in the summer of 2006."

Anyone even remotely familiar with the events in the region will know that a recent meeting between Lebanon, Syria and Iran in Damascus was a war council. Next time the uppity israelis start throwing their weight around, they might be in for a very rude awakening. Considering Saddam was invaded and liberated for violation of UNSC Res. 1444, it would seem that some enforcement of the 210 or so resolutions against israel might be due about now.

There are certain things that most Muslims will not tolerate, such as a depiction of Muhammad, or a forced land grab. Many may become emotional and seemingly lose all reason.

There are certain things that Israel will not tolerate. Work it out. Do the maths. She will not spell it out, but if she feels the Holy Land itself is threatened, and if she feels cornered, she will strike out, possibly even disproportionately. It's in the nature of things, beyond reason.

Naturally she should also be making visible efforts to comply with UN resolutions, if she genuinely hopes to survive there.

Hezbollah everybody’s sacrificial puppet, Iran wants them to fight with Israel so supplies them with weapons, now Syria wants the same so they supply weapons and good old dumb Hezbollah just go out and kill and get killed. The Lebanon it now seems to want Hezbollah to do its fighting for it too. I could almost feel sorry for these fools. But I don’t. Israel may be very heavy handed in the way it goes about protecting itself and as such comes in for a great deal of flack, but what the Israeli bashers seem to miss is that a lot of other counties seem to spend an inordinate amount of time and money creating trouble for Israel and you can’t all be so dumb as to believe it is because these counties love the Palestinians so much that they just can’t stop themselves helping. I have a couple of very bountiful gold mines in Hokkaido for sale if any of you gullible souls are interested, going at a good price, but I do need the money in cash, it’s for my sick old grandmother you see and she doesn’t have a bank account.

Elbudomexicano:

" When will Jews, Muslims ever get along? Give peace a chance! "

The only country in the region where Jews and Muslims both have full and equal rights is Israel. In all the surrounding Arab muslim countries (and in fact in every islamic country in the world), non-muslims are discriminated against, and Jews in particular.

All the talking points of the Israel-haters here nonwithstanding, that is a fact, which can esily verify.

The root cause, of course is islamic doctrine. The more islam, the less tolerance for Jews.

adaydream: Come protect us, we're so scared.

Yeah, Israel scared. The US has done nothing but put the reigns on Israel. Israel could step on and destroy Hezbollah and Hamas if it were allowed. But there are naive wishful thinkers who believe there can be peace with Islamic terrorist groups. When actually peace will only come when these groups are eliminated.
