"The Palestinians" aka the PA and Hamas, have consistently refused any "peace" deal that does not involve the destruction of Israel. What is new in the situation is that their rich oil Arab sponsors are less willing to support their open-ended intifada (recognizing that the Iranian Shia regime is a bigger threat to them) and accept the fact that Israel exist. And yes, recognizing a country is a step towards peace.
Tobia
How can you honestly call this a peace deal without involving the Palestinians? And do you call this diplomacy? Israel will continue to grab Palestinian land and treat them like second hand citizens under military occupation. I am asking all readers to check how many UN resolutions were passed against Israel for their disregard for international law. Israel has been acting without impunity for several years. No peace WITHOUT justice.

It is a marriage of convenience to counter their mutual enemy Iran. It doesn't hurt that Hamas is, like Hezbollah, aligned with Iran though Hamas doesn't revere Iran's leadership in the manner of Hezbollah. Either way the enemy of my enemy is my friend and that is the only thing driving this. It would not surprise me if all those fires and explosions that wracked Iran in July were the work of the Saudis, retribution for September 2019 Abqaiq-Khurais attack. Too many default to the notion "oh, it had to be the Israelis" ignoring the other visceral emnities in the region.

Sadat was killed by the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and this is why Egypt does not support Hamas and keeps the border with Gaza closed. They are enemies.
Desert Tortoise
Iran funds Hamas. The Gulf states do not. It is an interesting and sometimes contentious relationship since Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and devoutly Sunni. But they won't turn down Iran's support and in fact courted Iran after the killing of IRG General Soliemani, sending a delegation to his funeral.

LOL, yeah, that is the playbook. Like when the economy was good, it was Obamas economy, The moment it turns bad, it is Trumps economy. So easy to predict. Same with every diplomatic move, Corona decision, or whatever.

Before getting all excited it is important to remember that the second UAE declared independence it had land stolen from it by both Iran and Saudi Arabia. Its not like they broke with old friends here or blazed a trail for them. There is very real bad blood there.

Yes, all the credit. Every single ounce of it.
You know this is correct, because if it had gone wrong he would have gotten every ounce of the blame.
WilliB
Yep, that is the expected contortion. The orange guy can not get an credit, cant have that now, can we.

The Arab world has a way to deal with traitors..... how did it work out for Sadat in Egypt?

Security on normal El Al flights is horrendous. Imagine flights from UAE.......

'Israel plane flew to UAE, carrying high-ranking US & Israeli delegation to Abu Dhabi in the first direct commercial flight.'
On the surface, it appears to be a significant sign for peace in the region. Below the surface, US-Israel are trying to instigate internal strife in the Arab World. Israel would only be safer and call the shots anytime in Mideast when the surrounding Arab nations are at odds with one another..
bobfor2
all of this is accurate

Don’t see 10000 Israeli children imprisoned without trial and tortured in Palestine for just being on their land.
whats left of it.

Palestinian terrorism,...
Tell us what terrorism is ?
When a nation bombs, maims it is not terrorism.
Talk about brainwashing.
Wolfpack
Ok - where does the money come from for Palestinian terrorism and the Qassam rockets that are fired by the boatload at Israeli civilians? Seriously- where do the impoverished and neglected Palestinians get the money to build concrete reinforced tunnels into Israel so civilians can be murdered in their communities? Instead of hospitals and food the destitute PLO somehow have money to pay for military hardware and terrorist training. Is it the average Palestinian taxpayer footing the bill?

Baby steps, be patient. Remember, relations between the US and Israel goes back to its inception, it’s understandable.
But that won’t happen in our lifetime
Their land??? Lol, I’ll say this, the West always shrieks about how the Palestinians are mistreated and yet, none of the Arab nations lift a finger to help them, they won’t even take them in and when they send them money inside Gaza, Hamas uses that money not to build schools or improve the infrastructure, they use it fund more terrorism or to create Qassam rockets to use to attack Israelis. So even the Arabs with their so called outrage don’t really want to be burdened with the Palestinian issue. If the Palestinians really want to come to the table and talk, renounce terrorism and then like with UAE the heating and trust can begin.

Expect more PR pieces showing photos of Israelis and Americans, but no Emirati rulers. Not surprising no one from one of the ruling families has been shown - yet - meeting with Israelis and Americans.
But not surprising the ruling families are looking for more ways to diversify their economy, knowing the days of incredible wealth generated from sales of oil might not be seen again.
Not surprising no mention is made of the thousands of Palestinians working in Abu Dhabi and throughout the UAE - because there are no opportunities for them in their native land.

Those who have interest in the Eastern Mediterranean gas reserves need to unite against Turkey. So I am not surprised that after Egypt and Saudi Arabia, UAE joined the bullier's club. In that regard I note that Greece has started militarising the Aegean islands and many of these islands are only about 2 - 10km to Turkey. This attitude of Greece is not only hostile but is against the international law since Greece had accepted not to arm the Aegean islands by the treaties of Lousanne and Paris.

Wow that was fast. Now I am waiting for the media to put a bad spin on it, to avoid giving any credit to Trump.
