soldiers had gone beyond that area, which was established more than 50 years ago

Next thing we know there will be settlement in that area only using the claim it was promised by God centuries ago.

.

Israeli officials have said they are striking military targets, including heavy weapons,

Syria is sovereign nation, what is the reason to do this? Is it "self defense" or hostage rescue?

Geez, of all the absolutely heinous things Israel has done over the last 14 months or so - and let's be real, they are a first class murder state right now, this almost shocks me the most. 350 military strikes inside Syria, an opportunistic land grab of more of the Golan Heights (let's be honest - they ain't ever going to give that back now) and troops pushing into Syria???? This is unbelievable.

And the US??? Quiet as a mouse......

So to recap:

Israel invading a country in the name of protecting security interests from perceived threats on its border = fine, normal, above board, nothing-to-see-here.

Russia invading a country in the name of protecting security interests from perceived threats on its border = wrong, evil, worst thing ever.

Israel has violated the UN Charter, a signed UN agreement and announced annexation. But certain quarters are strangely silent, it is deafening!

They have committed the ARCH CRIME of attacking the next-door neighbour - not a peep.

Moreover, Tel Aviv has been using one of the same justifications as Moscow - a change of government voiding previous agreements!

Has Israel any right, for a buffer zone it will keep controlling over the next decades unless a friend government takes the power in Syria ?

I do not think so. I am waiting for any US reaction

Syria has not attacked Israel but Israel does what Israel does. Since 1974 there has been a ceasefire arrangement between the two countries.

That is absolutely spot on:

I wonder what happened to those American patriots?

Seems "friendly" neighborhood relations set to continue!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I agree with all the above. Israel is a rogue state and is pushing for a regional war.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

So now they need a buffer zone for their buffer zone ?

Yeah, that threat from a country 28 times smaller than you...what exactly did they do to merit being invaded again?

Israel media has an IV with outgoing General in IDF where he admits Israel has provided weapons to Syrian opposition groups, dropped 2000 bombs in Syria in 2018 alone .....aimed at Iranian targets ?....while seeming to maintain relations with Syrias Assad,

Now Israel is bombing those groups it previously supported in Syria and stealing more of Syrian land as it does so,

With neighbours like Israel......sheesh....

Netanyahu's corruption trial seems underway......juggling an Israel supersport it seems.

Fighting , committing genocide, seizing land, expelling other races, facing ICJ war crime charges, fighting corruption and bribery charges in Tel Aviv....

No time to put your feet up and enjoy a cold beer .

TaiwanChina:

Surely these two terrorist groups weren't American assets to begin wth?

That's right they weren't.

That's not what Jake Sullivan was telling Clinton in 2012

Good! Push those backwards cultues back to the bronze age where they belong. The more Israel in the Middle East the better!

Another chapter in Israel’s land grab has started in Syria (in addition to the Golan Heights).

Since the United Nations created the State of Israel in 1948, the land grab by Israel has been nonstop.

Unfortunately it is aided and abetted by my United States of America and financed by the unwitting U. S. taxpayer.

Enough already Israel.

Syria is going to be another Libya, paradise on Earth.../irony OFF/anytime soon...

I think the Israeli strategy is to rattle Iran. It's been picking off its other client states in the region and probably hopes to push them into making some irrational moves.

Al-Queda, together with Turkey, US, and israel, carried out regime change in Syria. And immediately after accomplishing their goal, israel and the US turn around and attack them. I'm sure they'll appreciate it...

Geeter,Israelis Jews lived by sub primal religious zealots, you do not know anything about Israelis Jews, but to be controlled by them

I know they've turned sand and rocks into fertile farming land and that their women have more rights than those in backwards Middle Eastern countries. More Israel in the Middle East would be a good thing for the Middle East and the rest of the world.

You should spend some time reading the Arab press and some Turkish dissident websites. You would learn a lot. The Turks didn't want Assad gone. For the past year or more they have been urging Assad to negotiate a peace deal with Turkiye and the Syrian opposition groups. Why? Turkiye dearly wants to move Syrian refugees back into Syria and prevent the formation of an autonomous Kurdish region in Syria.

The Turks arm a group called the Syrian National Army or SNA. They semi-tolerated HTS in Idlib mainly because the SNA was made up of regional tribal militias that were more often feuding among themselves than fighting the Syrians. The Turks pushed the SNA to attack Syrian positions to put pressure on Assad to negotiate, publicly asking Assad to negotiate even as the SNA attacked.

What nobody saw coming was HTS exploding out of Idlib, nor did anyone imagine the Syrian Army would outright collapse like it did. The Turks don't want HTS running the show in Syria. They fear the presence of jihadis on their border. They wanted a deal with Assad that would get rid of HTS and get some stability on their border so they could concentrate on attacking the Kurds.

Now that possibility is gone.

The US considers HTS a terrorist organization and has a $10 USD bounty for the arrest or death of al-Jolani, their leader. The US has nothing to do with the SNA either. They are a Turkish creation, funded and armed by the Turks. The US supports the majority Kurdish Syrian Defense Forces, SDF. The are Turkiye's sworn enemy and US support for them who often fight the SNA is a major source of friction between Turkiye and the US. The US supports SDF to keep IS out of northeast Syria, western Iraq and Jordan. The US wants to keep IS from recapturing the oil fields east of the Euphrates river and using oil revenue to fund their jihad. The Kurds control the oil fields now and sell the oil, ironically, to the Syrian government, using the revenue to fund their regional government. The fear now is that with the chaos and power vacuum in much of Syria IS will use this to reconstitute its capabilities. There are a lot of weapons floating around Syria that IS could grab during the current confusion as much of the Syrian military has walked away from their units and left their equipment unguarded. Easy pickings for IS.

their women have more rights than those in backwards Middle Eastern countries.

You should familiarize yourself with Israels backward and oppressive marriage and religious laws. Number one, marriages of individuals of two different religions are prohibited. This is applied only to Jews being prohibited from marrying Muslims or Christians, but a Catholic could not legally marry a member of the Greek Orthodox church in Israel. There are twenty something approved Christian sects in Israel (which incidentally doesn't include the Methodist Church I used to attend ) and only marriages among members of those faiths are legal. Reform and Conservative Jews may not marry in Israel. Only orthodox Jews are allowed to marry. Many if not most Orthodox Rabbis do not consider Reform or Conservative Jews to be Jewish. A Muslim cannot marry a Christian or Jew. and a Jew cannot marry a Christian. Some democracy !

There are no civil marriages in Israel. What many Israelis do to get around these restrictions is travel to Cyprus to get married. Israel usually honors marriages performed overseas but that is not guaranteed. If an Israeli citizen marries a non-citizen their marriage is not recognized in Israel.
