Of course the worst choice will be made: Pete Hegseth.

Spent the past eight years on the couch of a Fox News morning show (another couch....?)

A Major in the National Guard (compare with Generals during previous administrations)

Doesn’t have any background whatsoever in (Department of Defence) policy

An unsuccessful run in 2012 for the Republican Senate nomination in Minnesota

Accused of sexual assault, infidelity and drinking in the workplace (again non-disclosure settlements)

All those great qualifications - like most of the coming Trump admin members - pot&kettle!!

The US military is what it is, people going there to get benefits, while serving the US in return for and education and paycheck, the US has not won a war since defeating Japan

Yes and with the looming threats the U.S. can no longer settle with mediocrity, Hegseth is going to change that.

What happens next? Trump will find some other perv, felon, or kook to nominate - MAGA-world is full of them...

Kid Rock as SECDEF? I wouldn't bet against it...

Sad commentary on America where recruiting non-whites, women and non-christians is thought to be settling with mediocrity. Yes of course only white christian males are competent to do anything and every one else better know "their place"

A guy who has about as much experience as managing a Burger King is about to manage something a million times bigger.

It kind of makes you wonder about Trump’s methods for his selections. As far as anyone can tell, it looks as though Trump is looking for people who know less than he does about each of these important departments. Trump wants the spotlight on himself as the All-Knowing.

The true mediocrity has not been among the men and women of the US military. It is the members of Congress who have habitually let the military down. No SECDEF can change that. None. Congress needs to decide what it wants the military do to and give it clear direction. Don't commit troops to combat but tie their hands. The US military that decisively defeated Iraq in 1991 was a diverse military. It succeeded because the civilian leadership gave it a clear objective, the necessary resources and used diplomacy to bring aboard allies to the cause. Nothing was done half way.
