Interesting. She supports sending arms to Ukraine. Well well.

It is a surprise to me too. Silvio Berlusconi is rolling over for Pootie-poo like a puppy for a belly rub bragging last week about exchanging "sweet" letters with his Russian idol. Just last week he was saying this and now he is saying that the invasion of Ukraine that happened last February makes it impossible to work with Russia. Did he just now realize Russia invaded Ukraine?

Excited to see how certain posters will square "fascist Italy is good" with "fascist Russia is good" and "Italy is opposing Russia regarding its illegal invasion of Ukraine".

Good but she will need support from the coalition to achieve it. Berlusconi who isn't a member of the government is a Putin supporter.

Odd, but better them than the US, Europe should definitely do more of the lifting.

So, you still like her then? Odd.

Why would Meloni support Ukraine? Got me thinking. In Italy, the two extremes of politics are the fascist right which she is a member of. And the communist left. Both hate each other to the point of killing each other.

Meloni and her fascist right hate communists. For decades, the Italian fascists, and the Spanish ones, hated the Soviet communists.

Maybe, in her psyche, she still regards Russia as born out of communism and these days, Putin is behaving more like a Soviet dictator than a democratically elected president.

Probably still do.

I think the left is just thinking waaaaay to deep on this one.

More like the other way around.

I know you are, but what am I?

So she did something you like. She’s a little less “fascist” today than yesterday?

No.

is there any action she can take to be any "less fascist"?

or is it just a label that you want to apply regardless of what she actually says or does?

Not being a fascist would be a pretty good start.

or is it just a label that you want to apply regardless of what she actually says or does?

Nope.

Honestly, the right's obsession with identity politics is baffling to me. Like, you're the kind of people who say, "Hitler was a vegan - so surely you agree that all vegans are Nazis??". And, like, no.

I am not on the left. I did live in Italy for many years and have an Italian family. A country close to my heart.

My opinion and comment are my own and I'm not a member of any group. My family has served in the military there. A nephew is a police officer in Milan.

The rightwing Italian Meloni supports Ukraine while the rightwing Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán supports Putin.

Even bad people do good things sometimes.

Meloni's "label" comes from being the leader of a fascist rightwing party, The Brothers of Italy, Fratelli d'Italia.

Sorry, it was the left that made identity politics a vile political conundrum

-Race

-Gender

Not only do the left use it non-stop, but I would also submit that is one of the reasons why so many people are turned off by the party, again, it helps the GOP, focus on the main issues and let the Dems hang themselves with their identity politics.

Ok, and?

I am not on the left.

Far left?

The rightwing Italian Meloni supports Ukraine while the rightwing Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán supports Putin.

I don't think the man supports Orban in that way, the left once again has taken the guy's statements way overboard.

It is also interesting that this is the first article I have read about Ms. Meloni that did not use the terms "Far right" or "fascist" or reference Mussolini. The closest they came is calling it a "rightist" government...

Perhaps because she is falling in line with the rest of the warmongers and joining the battle against Russia.
