. Ivanka is a summa cum laude graduate of one of the best Master's programmes in the world. She was also a VP in the Trump empire, in charge of global acquisitions. She is hardly a shrinking violet, and certainly a very intelligent, accomplished young lady. To say otherwise is simply inaccurate.

I've got a Masters and I've run a business (not Daddy's) but that doesn't make me an expert, or even informed, on development in Africa.

Perhaps if Trump had chosen to put people with the necessary expertise and experience in his delegation he wouldn't have had his daughter sitting there.

Nepotism is very ugly.

Typical dictator fashion, just decide you don't want to go and let a family member with zero qualifications (okay, Trump himself also has none) sit in your place.

Luddite: In that case, you would be wrong. To quote Angela Merkel,

“The delegations themselves decide, should the president not be present for a meeting, who will then take over and sit in the chair. Ivanka Trump was part and parcel of the American delegation so that is something that other delegations also do. It’s very well known that she works at the White House and is also engaged in certain initiatives.”

Again, the media is just itching for something to hang on Trump. And as is most often the case, it turns out to be nothing.

Leaders leave the main table all the time for one to one meetings. The usual practice is to have a high ranking aide or civil servant, with experience and expertise on the subject being discussed, to deputise.

I think having his daughter take his place was at the very least an idiotic diplomatic faux pas.

Liberals should be happy the most left learning member of the administration is standing in for Trump on 'migrant' issues.

Yeah, I don't really buy the myth that Ivanka is "left-leaning".

Why dos he have to repeat words for emphasis like some 12 year old?

Yeah, I remember the last president constantly talking down and repeating things shaking his finger as if we were all incompetent children. I get your point, it's quite annoying.

She's probably more mentally fit to be sitting there than her father.

“I try to stay out of politics...” Ivanka Trump, 6/26/17 (on Fox and Friends)

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Is it pure jealous or hatred? Ivanka was educated woman and she was qualified for sit in with other world leaders.

Much ado about nothing. There's enough to worry about this inept administration without being outraged about the molehills.

Angry grandpa was obviously wiped out.

He's over seventy years old and could, if he wanted, do a monumental truffle shuffle.....

The presidency is going to do him in one way or the other.

When Secretary of State only knows how to make money by increasing gasoline prices she had to attend so that in case her dad began yelling  at anyone ...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Daddy is giving her a leg up before she gets appointed to acting Secretary of State the last 6 months of the administration. Then she will run for a house or senate seat from NY and be appointed to some Whitehouse position/department head under the next President.

Clearly so she never need worry about health care costs, unlike the rest of us.

We can all see the playbook. Right?

According to the Russian emissary he stepped out for bilateral meetings.

Why are people trying to make a mountain out of this molehill?

Body clock could be screwed up with jet lag. Could be having a nap or maybe his trash tweet time alarm went off.

Has he tweeted any trash?

it doesn't really deserve the hysterics displayed here and elsewhere.

Probably ran out of energy again. All that thinking

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Uh ... what are your qualifications? Can I see your resume?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Since when Applebaum is a historian? She is a journo that made her career talking about collapse of communism in east eu...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

It was best she sat.  Did you notice other aids are ignorant big mouth?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Low-energy Trump couldn't handle a meeting where other world leaders were raring to go, so he asked his kid to take his place.

http://perezhilton.com/perezitos/2013-12-20-ivanka-trump-throwback-thursday-wollmanrink-with-ivana-trump

Ivanka Trump has been involved in politics since the Wollman (NYC-Central Park) ice rink. Without Ivanka's constant encouragement (pressure) and steadfast dedication most political pundits have concluded the rink would have been eliminated from Central Park. It was basically Donald's ingenious building and political/media wit and Ivanka Trump vs the NYC political elites and media. Ivanka won when no-one thought it could be done. The rink still stands and for many a center-piece of Central Park.

I'm not sure just how long "briefly" is but given that she stood in when "the president of the World Bank started talking as the topic involved areas such as African development -- areas that will benefit from the facility just announced by the World Bank." it doesn't really deserve the hysterics displayed here and elsewhere.

This is insanely WRONG on so many levels!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Why dos he have to repeat words for emphasis like some 12 year old?

He knows his audience?

...the president had to step out.

Why would that have been? Was there some crisis that couldn't have waited? - haven't heard of any. Or is it his health? He's 71 now but looks 80. Have you seen that video n which he's wandering around the tarmac looking for his limo, which was parked just at the foot of his stairs? Look more close at that yawn/burp he does coming down the stairs, and the entirely desultory manner of his gait. The man is not healthy.

Dodgy Donald is such a joke. America, you've been conned! If people think this is somehow normal or acceptable, they have serious issues.
