Ivanka Trump in Africa to promote women at work program

Looking for new cheap labour for her new shoe factories? You know that every Trump administration's visit abroad involves making money for the family.

Better seeing a million people starve in Africa than the Trumps succeeding at anything.

Leaving behind the White House battles over border walls and tax returns, Ivanka Trump is visiting Ethiopia and Ivory Coast in pursuit of a very different goal — advancing a global women's program she hopes will outlast an administration better known for "America First" isolationism.

This is disingenuous. It's America First all right, but it's certainly not isolationism. The writer of this article, AP's Catherine Lucey, needs to correct this.

"The part of the proposal which is around looking at laws — that is a good thing to focus on," said Charles Kenny, a senior fellow at the Center for Global Development, referencing the initiative's support for changing laws, regulations and customs that create barriers preventing women from fully participating in the workforce. But he said the abortion-related ban could have a negative economic impact, saying that "I think one of the most powerful tools for women's economic empowerment is the ability to choose when and how many children they have."

Isn't abortion the termination of a life?

The wealth of her and husband increased by $80 million during the first year of Trump's term at the WH.

Newsflash - the wealth of a whole bunch of Americans has increased during the past 2 years. Manufacturers have added 6 times more jobs under Trump than Obama's last 2 years, unemployment is at 3.8% and at a record low for blacks and Hispanics.

Her resume is pretty good. She’s no dummy that’s for sure, she manages a lot of the Trump business and you can’t do that if you don’t know what your doing, impossible.

Nothing wrong with inheriting property, it’s actually a great thing. Not only did he gain it back and made millions off the 14 year hit show the Apprentice, he became the President of the US to be the most powerful man and once he’s out of office, the money he’ll make from book deals will add to more millions, brilliant.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with inheriting property; I was clearly pointing out how horrible of a businessperson Trump is. There simply is no refuting that he's a failure at business.

One thing I know for a fact about Hollywood and the NYT, they would never list your books as bestsellers and you’d never get a TV show let alone your own with knockout ratings if you were a loser or horrible, that’s just a fact.

Maybe not as much as Michelle Obama who this week is back at a packed London O, they just can't get enough of her.

Reminds me of how Americans couldn't get enough of Tony Blair. People with a bit of charm who have screwed up in their own countries often do well overseas when the locals have gotten wise to their game.

Killing babies with a heart beat, half of whom are presumably female, doesn’t do much to empower women. It is sad that people in poor countries live brutal lives - that goes for both men and women. They have corrupt governance and primitive cultures that hold them back.

Adding to that brutality by snuffing out the lives of babies will not bring about progress. I am not against abortion when it is done before the babies heart starts to beat and he/she becomes cognitively sentient. However, how a person can approve of cutting up a fully formed child is beyond my ability to sympathize with.

Ivanka can help these women by helping them become educated and more independent. That way their children (don’t forget those female children) will have the ability to build a better future.

Many people who own their own businesses, including Trump have had failures. Too many people do not appreciate how difficult it is to be successful even with the advantages Trump inherited from his parents. However Trumps company seems to be afloat at the moment.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people who have jobs and are getting a paycheck every month - that is a good thing. That’s the way capitalism works. It isn’t always easy to run a business and when hard times come you pick yourself up and rebuild.

I don’ understand the argument from the Left that a person is a failure because they have had failures in the past and ignoring what they have accomplished since. By that standard, pretty much everyone is a perpetual failure. Maybe that’s the reason Dems want Socialism so much - so all people can be equal failures.

The Trump administration put out an Africa policy late last year that largely sought to counter what it called the "predatory" practices of China and Russia in the region.

Which is ironic, given the Trump family interests in both China and Russia.

Used to bankruptcy laws appropriately and how they were designed to tell which is the reason why he was able to come back each time so good on him.

@zichi: Family planning isn't just about abortions. It's also about birth control. The planet can not support 10 billion people. Child birth morality rates and other problems including major diseases like AIDS.

Birth control is very important for women in poor countries and I wouldn’t mind supporting changes to foreign governments policies to make it legal. Paying for it is their own business. I am personally not even against abortion if it’s before the child becomes sentient. If we can punish people for animal cruelty I don’t see why fully formed and living children cannot also be protected. As far as how many people the planet can support, Malthusians are constantly wrong on this subject because they consistently underestimate human ingenuity. Who are we to tell other people whether they can or should reproduce?

Unfortunately the Left and the Right favor such laws that subsidize failure that are considered to be for the common good. Things such as windmills and ethanol for example. Perhaps your business doesn’t have a powerful business lobby or union that is paying off politicians on your behalf.

Not realistically. A small contractor can't afford the legal challenge that Trump can put up. They don't have any realistic legal recourse. It's how Trump managed to scam hundreds, if not thousands, of the little guy. Then so many of those little guys were stupid enough to think Trump was speaking for them.

Ivanka doesn't have enough sense to pour pee out of a shoe. What's she gonna do when her daddy/husband is gone? She knows nothing about female education, empowerment or independence. Notice how she got snickered at during that 'women's conference' last year in Germany. Ivanka Trump is a JOKE and smart women know it. She is a rotten role model for modern women. Having your father as your husband or boyfriend is NO 'women's lib'.

I'm all for gender equality - the famous 'yinyang', but Ivanka will never be an icon for that idea!
