Too bad Liu Xiaobo could not attend or even a family member accept. Just another example of how China sucks.

Congratulations to Liu Xiaobo and may he someday be able to pick up his prize and the money too (they should put it in an interest bearing account until he is able to collect).

This whole issue must be a huge thorn inside China's side. Good! In many ways China's government is like the Nazi regime. Let's hope sooner or later China get's paid back all the nasty sh*t that they deserve!

Let's not forget either how many times China has intervened without one blink when it comes to appeasing North Korea and how the whole world then turns to China. The award should have gone to China's leader this year. Maybe the world could respect China a little bit more.

China accuses the Noble Prize committee of pushing western values on to China, I love hearing that as an excuse, it just goes to show how backwards they really are.

Many are blinded that justice was not done to China with this award. It is being politicized. Nobel prizes should not be adorned to shame a country. The American President like using words like international communities and here the Norwegian uses 'universal' human rights. All these are arrogance of their own. Asia is a rising power in this millennium and Asian should be proud to show they can stand on its own rather be lackeys of powerful western countries. So far China is seen to be the only asian country that can stand on its own and with poverty out of the way, they will rise very rapidly to great heights without being subservient.

so let's all go out and shop for the holidays and buy more Chinese goods ...oh wait... How about we don't?

Granted, Foxie did have a bit of a point there with regard to China being the country the rest of the world turns to as the country that has the power to tell North Korea to heal, sit and stay. And sure, there are lots of good points about China...mainly its people, not necessarily its rulers. After all, the people don't get any say in its policies, who is running the show, etc. Maybe, just maybe if the Chinese people were allowed to have a voice, they wouldn't have so much infanticide or so many substandard buildings that crumble into dust killing everyone inside during an earthquake...and who knows, they might even get human rights too. But then again, China is capable of mass producing lots of products and making lots of money, therefore rising on the world stage, so we shouldn't criticize but should to think everything is sunshine and roses with them. Really?

The whole world celebrates Julian Assange so why is he sitting in jail? I find it worse, that the government has forced American companies to cease their ties to WikiLeaks and freeze the accounts. Where is the democracy there? Where are those human rights in the West then? Guantanamo etc. Where is our freedom? Everywhere you go there are cameras, you must have biometric passports, chips containing all your information in your ID card or driver's licence, restricted use of your cell phone, no parking, ban here, ban there. We too are critics of our regimes - Constitution enemies - enemies of democracy - pursuing political demonstrators are beaten and locked up. A Nobel prize has never been awarded to any peace activist, nuclear energy opponent. These people too were fighting for a better, healthier, more peaceful world. How China - Russia, the United States and any other states deal with dissidents is solely the internal affair of that state. Somewhere in Iran dissidents are hanged on the very next construction crane.

I'd like to thank China for their defiance of the Nobel Peace Prize this year. I had never heard of Liu Xiaobo before this hit the press. I have since learnt about him and his views and how he looks to a better China through progressive changes and acknowledgement of human rights. It's a brave thing China did taking on the international recognised body and trying to bully other nations into sanctioning this prestigious award, allowing Liu Xiaobo's story to be highlighted around the world on every front page. Well done.

The "whole world" does NOT celebrate Assange. He is sitting in a jail cell in England because he violate Swedish laws and fled from Sweden to England to avoid being tried for his crimes.

Just expression of opinions and then...jail for Liu in China! While in the West , wikileaks and its supporters are leaking serious US government secrets but still free.I am afraid that governments in the West will have much ,much tighter control of the Internet, soon.
