Jimmy Carter pardons Gerald Ford's attempted assassins (they didn't get Ford but did kill secret service men), but Chapman stays in jail.

That's liberalism in America!

Not quite what Lennon himself would have wished, I think....

"Lennon would have turned 70 this October."

No guarantee of that, really. After years of substance abuse, he was not in the best of health when shot. But it is as pure a supposition to say he would have died at 53 as it is to say he would have been 70 had he not been shot.

Logical quibbling aside, I support the parole board's decision. And I suspect he won't get out until Yoko, Paul, and Ringo have all shuffled off their respective mortal coils.

Liberalism??? What are you talking about? No secret servicemen were killed in the two attempts on Fords life, and Carter only pardoned Oscar Collazo, who attempted to kill Truman. Chapman is in prison because he killed John Lennon. Not an attempt. And that's where he deserves to stay. Forever.

Pump24 beat me to it. The only thing that was correct about that post was the spelling! It is worthy of an official footnote denouncing its utter falsitude.

Chapman will stay in jail because he is murdering scum.

20 years to life... and he's been in there 30? I'm not saying he deserves to be out -- just curious what 'life' means in the US system, since I thought it meant 25 years.

You think about what this guy did and it still causes a pang, followed by a bit of rage at the stupidity of it all. But I wonder, does Ono really think that he poses a threat to others (besides himself, I mean)? I can understand if she's still incredibly upset, I'm just genuinely curious if she honestly feels threatened or if it's just the aforementioned rage.

It's hard to guarantee that someone like this has a firmer grasp of reality than he did when he committed his crime.

They'll let this guy out about the same time they let Manson out.

I agree, but still..

This nutjob murdered a Beatle in a premeditated fashion. Do you really think Ono, McCartney, or Starr would, or should, feel comfortable with his release? If I were any one of them, I'd want him to stay locked up.
