So some of my cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors etc...can finally wrok and live in peace and try their luck with the so called American Dream?? I think it is good, because, if it is a law to help young people who are going to school, going to do good for themselves and for their families, great. Now, the other side of the coin, how many US CITIZENS are gang members?? How many idiot fools, born and raised in the USA who kill, who drug and poison others but no way to deport them, what are we supposed to do with all of these parasites?? Oh, Joe Blow was born here in Texas? In Montana, but Joe Blow is a drug addict?? He is a loser, lazy?? But one more, say some losers are illegal, from China, Russia, Mexico, El Salvador etc..it sounds very easy to just deport them, but in the case with Mexico, the USA is just dumping them along with regular illegals, in other words, the USA is dumping rapists, killers, drug dealers etc..who are from deep, deep Mexico right on the USA southern border with Mexico, and these horrible criminals just regroup, get ready to contact their buddies back in San Diego, LA, Houston, Chicago etc..while killing, raping, etc..on the Mexican side of the border, oh, do you think the US government BOTHERS to let the Mexican authorities as to who is a low level criminal?? Who is a real killer?? NO!!! This is one big complaint from the Mexican government for years, and then these same animals are on the loose and they start killing on BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER!!!

While it is true that most are born in Mexico, the policy does not say anything about Mexico at all. With 12 million illegal immigrants in the USA, nearly every country in the world has a representative in the United States illegal immigrant underworld. Even some Canadians, Brits, and Germans will benefit. Not to mention...

What's worse is those animals teach their lack of values and of humanity to their children who are born in the States, and like you said, they can deport a good kid together with the killers, but the criminal's equally warped son gets to stay and jis juvenile record is sealed when he turns 18. I think it's time to do away with citizenship by birth and give "permanent residency by birth", and remind the kids that if they are good, they'll get to be citizens, if not, they'll get deported from their birth country back to where their parents were born.

A liberal estimate is 12 percent of the US population is "foreign" born. Illegal, however, is very low. Too often Americans confuse the two, because of fear of foreigners and the hysteria spread by pop-culture media like Fox News and hate radio. At least this law temporarily puts fear on hold for a few hundred thousand kids.
I worry that it only exacerbates the difficulty my "foreign" wife has in coming to the United States. The illegal ones get top priority visas, and she, legally waits indefinitely for never because of race.

If you have such issues with people in the states, then why to you still seek to live there? Either put up or shut up! Become an American and make changes or stay in your own damned country but don't try to have it bot ways. I came form one of those families that you complain about and am now living the "American Dream" because I paid my way through college and worked hard. It's not that difficult. You can do it yourself or on handouts like Obama..

Don't get me wrong, I like the law. Except this wasn't really signed by Obama into law because Congress lacked to guts to put a bill on his desk.
800,000 possible kids as compared to the total 100,000 all illegal aliens hiding in Japan might sound like a huge amount to absorb. But it isn't a strain at all. Because the US is already handling it, new law or not, and these kids can actually contribute without joining the underworld of illegal things.
The elephant in the room that nobody is talking about is the 12 million illegal aliens in the USA that are not covered by this new non-law binding policy. Not invited? I think they were when Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to their cousins when he was the POTUS.

So in other words, the parents of these children broke the law and they are not going to be held responsible for it. When a young person is illegal it isn't the fault of the US government or the people, it is their parents fault. So their children become their anchor babies as they no doubt will inevitably be granted US citizenship and will thus be able to sponsor their illegal parents. In no time 800,000 will become 8 million. No need to respect the laws of America, you got her by ignoring them - no since being a law abiding citizen now. America will be happy to borrow trillions more from the Chinese to set you up in a nice government home, with your food and medical costs paid for by Uncle Barry.
For those who obey the law and respect their prospective new country by applying to the government, paying the costs, and waiting for years, you are idiots and losers. You are stupid for obeying the laws that every other country on earth expects of non-citizens. You would have been better off disrespecting the laws of America and just overstaying your visa or walk across the border.
Let no law or amount of pandering stand in the way of Obama's re-election.

The issue isn't whether American's are model citizens. There are other laws that deal with them. It's about people that are in the country illegally. However, now that illegal aliens are exempt from the law, I don't see why American gang members should not also be given free reign to break laws as they fit. Heck, let's just let everyone break whatever laws they want and just forgive them. I'd like to stop paying my taxes - I wonder if the President will let me get away with that?
Obama has really gone mad! What other country in the world would invite such lawlessness and lack of control over it's own future?

What was the law back then? The story in the El Paso paper is that she told her father in Mexico that she was going to the Post Office. According to the story, that was the last time Jeb's father-in-law ever saw his daughter.

We started to control the executive power, until this guy from Texas, son of a POTUS, took the POTUS himself. Obama is crowne royal on that. It was wrong before and it is wrong now.
I have a "dog in the fight," because I am on my eighth year of bringing my Far East Asian wife, baby not included, to the United States. Baby died in the process. I know the law, and the law is not just "broken," it is corrupt in the USA.

At this time, I have no opinion on the matter. I would like to respond to your statement.
The current system is working. There are laws in place to address immigration. The Arizona immigration law is being decided by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court have ruled in favor of Arizona immigration law and would have likely give States more power to enforce the immigration laws.
Illegal immigration wouldn't be an issue today if the economy was doing fine.
Passion is over doing it more likely people are emotional about the subject matter from both ends on immigration. To say that they will contribute in taxes well wouldn't the young adult Americans who are hired in their place be contributing in taxes too.
The bottom line is what Obama have done is taken the decision from the Supreme Court and Congress so that he can get re-elected no matter what.
I have a lot of respect for Cesar Estrada Chavez who was a Latino civil rights activist. There were a time when ordinary people did extraordinary thing. Well today it seems like...

Why now? it is simply a shameless political move for the coming election. U.S. should enforce the immigration law while waiting for a new comprehensive law in dealing with illegal immigration. To by pass the congress and to use executive power like this is low and showing how desperate Obama is willing to do for his own self interest. Besides "economic stupid" policy, now this administration screws those who follow the rule and waiting in line for their turn. What next? Simply, it is not a good morality lesson for law abiding citizens, but does Obama care? Forwarding over the cliff!

Obama is ruling by decree here. In the US system it is up the Congress to make laws here, and not to the President. If the country allows this, it is a big step towards democracy. One shudders to think how much more he can corrupt the system if he is allowed to carry on for another 4 years.

Another attempt by Obama to by-pass Congress and rule this country by executive fiat. If anything, trying to placate minorities to win their votes just proves how desperate the administration is about the upcoming election.
But this might turn into yet another exploding cigar moment for Team Obama. Allowing 800,000 illegals to compete for jobs in our sagging workforce that Obama created isn't going to help The One get re-elected. Unemployment figures by the BLS show young blacks and Hispanic youths who're in this country legally hovers around 25 percent. Pretty sure folks eligible to vote in those demographics are not going to be very happy about Obama allowing nearly 1 million people living here illegally to vie for jobs a shrinking U.S. labor market.

They have the right to be a criminal if they so choose because they are legal. Just because someone broke the law to come to the US but they are nice people still doesn't dismiss the fact that they broke the law. Since you are on the legal criminals, how many of those in the prisons are illegals that the US taxpayer has to pay for?

Right! - because Congress has really been on the ball with this issue, fulfilling their responsibilities! I imagine full immigration reform is just around the corner! But wait - isn't the common complaint that Obama is too weak and vacillating?
Those who benefit from this decision are still not able to vote, yet he's trying to placate minorities by increasing competition for jobs with minorities who are able to vote? That is quite a muddled message.
Republicans have recently adopted as a slogan "predictability," as in "businessmen will not invest unless they are sure everything will remain the same forever." Well, there is a huge number of young, bright, talented people whose only "crime" is that they were brought here as children. Different states have different attitudes towards them: some allow them in-state tuition for state universities; some don't allow them admission to state university at all. Obama's decision will not change this, but it will give them "predictability": that if they stay out of trouble, they can get an education somewhere, gain legal employment, and embark on the path to gain legal citizenship.
Sounds quite realistic to me. It's not like they'd be going "home," and it's not like the US is cold-hearted enough to round them up and deport them. They're here and they're here to stay, so as long as they're good, why not throw them a bone?
Oh, and I can imagine how this will aid their parents in keeping them on the straight and narrow. Talk about an incentive to be a good kid!

Immigration wouldn't be a problem if there were no welfare state. If people came to America and KNEW that the only way they could get money was to WORK for it, there wouldn't be any problems. The same with citizens. If the only way people could get money was to WORK for it, there wouldn't be any problems.
As Milton Friedman (nobel prize winning economist) pointed out years ago, nobody had a problem with immigration in the U.S. when it wasn't a huge welfare state. All the immigrants that came knew they had a lot of hard work ahead of them, but it was better than where they came from.
Of course, this is the same thing that collapsed the Roman Empire, it slowly turned into a giant welfare state, destroyed their currency through devaluation, and self destructed. Same thing will happen in Europe and the U.S. It's only a matter of time.
As far as Obama's ploy, it's only that: A ploy to get more votes. Desperate times call for desperate measures. The handwriting is on the wall for BO, and he's trying everything he can to hold on to power.

The administration's announcement that it would suspend the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were born abroad and came to the United States without authorization as kids has immigration advocates showering hosannas on President Obama. There is another politician, though, who deserves quite a bit of credit for the administration's move: Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Two months ago, Rubio floated a watered down version of the so-called DREAM Act -- and the administration this morning essentially made it the law of the land (at least temporarily).
Rubio's contribution to the DREAM Act debate made it harder to allege the GOP was the "do nothing" party on immigration reform. The senator had been spreading the word in the media that the administration was telling DREAM Act advocates to refrain from working with him on his effort. It put pressure on the administration to shore up its credentials with Latinos, a voting block that could decide whether Colorado, Florida, and Nevada end up in the Red or Blue column this fall. With its announcement Friday, the administration did just that.
Senator Rubio released a statement criticizing the president's decision to bypass Congress in order to make that possible. But make no mistake about it: it was his own effort that helped spur the administration to action, and it has made Rubio the most influential freshman senator serving in the U.S. Congress today.

Remember Obamas statement on the issue last year: “The fact of the matter is there are laws on the books that I have to enforce. And I think there’s been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the Dream Act passed and getting comprehensive immigration passed by perpetrating the notion that somehow, by myself, I can go and do these things. It’s just not true,”
Well, that was last year, but now an election needs to be won, and big demographic groups need to be panderend to. So, the laws are all forgotten now, and yes, we can!

If he is declaring that they will not be deported without the approval of Congress, then it will be just as easy for him to issue anoter EO that states that children who were brought here illegally by their parents should have the same rights as other citizens and be allowed to vote. Still plenty of time to get them registered befor November. Or, as you state, why else would he ensure that people who can't vote now have their relatives who also can't vote be eligible to remain in the USA.

Sailwind - Rubio has done a great service with his legislation, but getting his own party to accept it proved an impossible task. (Let's also not forget the controversy over his claim that his parents were refugees from Castro, when in fact they left Cuba in 1956 during Batista's rule, three full years before Castro came to power. Still, it sounds good!)
Alphaape, the chief executive has certain authority over how federal law is executed, and Obama has duly exercised this. He has not given them legal status; he has given them breathing room by stating that the federal government under his administration will back off their deportation. Stating he could require that "children who were brought here illegally by their parents should have the same rights as other citizens and be allowed to vote" is simply silly.

Why are other people having so many problems bringing your foreign spouse to the US? We started the process for hubby's green card in 2009, got the first step approved right away, then when we decided to move in 2010 we did the other step. Medical exam, proof you can support yourselves after moving to the US, and a short interview was all that was needed. The green card was approved and sent 2 months later to the US, and then the social security card followed soon after. No. Problems.

Recognizing that his proposal was never going to be an easy sell for either Republicans or Democrats, Mr. Rubio said in an interview this week that he was moving forward with his plan to give students a chance to study and work here legally, albeit temporarily. The senator said he and his staff had been speaking with Democrats, conservative Republicans in and out of Congress, immigration advocates and the students themselves.
“I don’t want to be unrealistically optimistic about it,” he said, but added, “I have not been discouraged by anybody in my party.”
They left in 1957 and Batista was also a corrupt brutal dictator. I understand that Rubio may well be Romney's V.P choice though and one does need to get smears on early to discredit the man, even if Obama stole his immigration bill by "executive order".

Glad to hear it went so well for you. But for the other 99% of us the legal immigration process is a nightmare. There is a documentary out there titled "The Naturalized" from one of the cable networks, in it a young man tells how it took him something like 7years and $17,000 to immigrate to the U.S. and become a citizen. It also shows how badly immigration treats a couple where the U.S. citizen husband is trying to get permanent green card status for his immigrant wife, etc.
Obama granting legal status to ANY illegal is a slap in the face to those of us trying to do it the legal way (also to those who have done it the legal way).
Graduated from or be in school, they are illegals and that means that taxpayer money is paying for that. Discharged from the U.S. Military . . . How did an illegal get into the military in the first place? But I will allow for this one, if you serve our country you should be allowed in. Not convicted of a crime, well they may not be convicted, but their being in the U.S. illegally is a crime!
This is a ploy to get votes!

You do not need to be an American citizen to join the US military. If you are not, you can't get a secuirty clearance and thus you are limitied to the jobs you can preform. Also, to be an Officer, you must be a US citizen so the non-citizens can only be in the Enlisted ranks. That is why you see so many Filipino's in the USN. When we had bases in the PI, many joined there provided they could pass the test. After years of service, some became naturlaized and their family memebers also became naturalized.
I don't have a problem with those who have been honorably discharged or are still serving becoming US citizens. What I do have a problem with those who have not, and just wait for some in the government to grant them some amnesty. They have not had any "skin in the game" so to speak but yet are benefiting from the services provided by the US government.

Where would most Americans be today if the Native Americans had met our ancestors on the shores and asked to see our papers? What did they do then? Just began a westward advance! Romney made a pointed effort in his first response to Obama's announcement to include Senator Rubio.
“I’d like to see legislation that deals with this issue,” Romney said. “And I happen to agree with Marco Rubio, as he said this is an important matter, we have to find a long-term solution.”
And Senator Rubio's response in a statement was:
Today’s announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem. And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.
I think we will be seeing a response from Romney's camp soon pointing out the blatant political ploy Obama has done here. Obama did this for fear that Rubio was actually putting together a real bi-partisan deal with his leadership and commitment on this issue , and he couldn't have that. He cynically decided that now was the moment for pure, bold, crystalline pandering.

Ah! How long has the immigration "crisis" been brewing? I seem to remember that Saint Reagan back in '86 gave amnesty to undocumented aliens who were able to prove residency for a certain period - one of my oldest friends is now an American thanks to that. But, wow, how Saint Reagan would be eviscerated for even suggesting such a move now.
So both Romney and Rubio claim that they would like to see a "long-term" solution to this problem. Bravo for them! And welcome to reality, while we're at it! The unfortunate reality for both is that any real, long-term solution will have to incorporate the reality of a million youth who have been raised since childhood in the United States and an angry right wing who would like to repopulate them to somewhere they don't know. Rubio putting together a "bi-partisan deal" on this - in an election year? Sure, and there'll be unicorns an rainbows, too!
It is a short-term answer to a long-term problem, but for those involved, it means they can apply to college and get drivers licenses and do real jobs without the worry of immediate deportation. As for the timing - Congress should have acted on this long ago. When Congress abdicates, Obama acts.

Forgetting that he himself actually once understood that he is President of a Democracy .........Square this circle with pandering he pulled today.
Now, what we can do is to prioritize enforcement, since there are limited enforcement resources, and say we're not going to go chasing after this young man or anybody else who's been acting responsibly and would otherwise qualify for legal status if the DREAM Act passed.
But we live in a democracy. You have to pass bills through the legislature, and then I can sign it. And if all the attention is focused away from the legislative process, then that is going to lead to a constant dead-end. We have to recognize how the system works, and then apply pressure to those places where votes can be gotten and, ultimately, we can get this thing solved. And nobody will be a stronger advocate for making that happen than me.

This also gave me a mixed reaction. I like the fact that if certain requirements are met the children that were dragged along with their parents while hopping the border should not be blamed for their parents actions. I'm honestly to the point where I have no idea what an undocumented person can and cannot do. Driver's License? College? Welfare? Work? Health insurance? Social Security?
Generally speaking, I'm of the opinion that if there are here and if they've been here a long time it's easier to make them citizens and get them paying into the system like everyone else. There's zero change of making a dent in removing them and with that reality the solution should be more practical than idealistic.
After that's done, then make the laws extremely strict on undocumented people. Each time you make becoming a citizen easier then make the penalty for not taking advantage of the system more and more severe. Let the ones already in stay, get them legal, then focus on a much smaller pool of people who refuse to follow the rules in the future.

Under Arizona law Yolanda could attend Grand Canyon University but without proof of citizenship is not eligible for in-state tuition status or financial aid that is funded or subsidized by state monies. It will be very expensive for her to attend college there.
Under California law Justino as an undocumented student would have had to attended a state high school for three or more years, to have graduated from a state high school, and to sign an affidavit promising to file an application to legalize his immigration status to be considered a "resident" for California's student aid programs and in state tuition.
Short term politics aside, I also agree with most of your post for the long term solution.

Now that Obama has bypassed Rubio's plan by E.O, they have no incentive at all to work out a compromise with him on this which is exactly why they did it this way. However the corrected statistics are still telling . . . 200,000 living in garages, living without proper sanitation it must smell horrible. 27% of the births is still 27% too much for the taxpayers to be paying for. The prison population is still at least 10% more than it needs to be at the taxpayers expense. As for the radio stations, it's a free market economy and if it supports them OK. Obama is referring to original DREAM ACT bill not Senator Rubio's proposed legislation, he's derailed Rubio's version for good now and never had any intention of working with him or the republicans on this. Mission accomplished for the Democrats and saving a wedge issue for them, but not for the nation at all. Obama even when he has a golden chance to unify the country on a really difficult issue goes the other route.
The Republicans have been reaching out to hispanic community and seeking their support. Rubio's effort was at the forefront of that. This is an election year and on this issue the republicans were ripe to concede and compromise on lesser version of the original DREAM act to bolster that outreach effort. President Obama and his administration could have seized on that and showed the nation that it was quite possible to work with the republicans and achieve real compromise and some very contentious issues and set the tone for how the next four years of an Obama administration actually would be like. It would have actually bolster his chances for re-election if he would have chosen this route in my opinion, independents who have been leaving him in droves would actually give him a different look if he could actually showed that he gets how to Govern. But it just isn't in this Presidents DNA. Rather divide and demonize rather than work and compromise and here was a golden shot at a good compromise when the moment and timing was actually matching up in both parties for some real long term overdue breakthrough Immigration reform. Now there is no way that any sane Republican is now going to try and work with a President on immigration now when he has decided that by executive degree trumps Democratic governance and everything else just to gain political pandering points with his base instead of the for the actual good of the whole nation. It would be asking the Republicans to approve of a by decree Presidency and that sure isn't going to happen. Or to put it in a better context It would be like asking the Democrats if Romney was elected after he issued an E.O that he wasn't going to enforce the penalties in the Tax Code if the rich don't pay taxes because those obstructionist Democrats just won't compromise on his economic legislation.

Just because a person has not been convicted of a crime does NOT mean the are not a criminal, it just means that they have never been caught. Go to any website about Latin American family traditions and you will read that children typically follow in their parents footsteps.
In school or graduated, these are the same kids who tear down the U.S. flag and replace it with Mexico's at a U.S. public school, the same kids who sing the U.S. National Anthem in Spanish, The same kids who had an American student expelled from school for wearing a T-shirt with the U.S. flag on it on Cinco-de-Mayo a few years back. Lazy Americans with no skill, no educations can stay at jobs where they are flipping burgers. Mexico should clean u the corruption and take care their own, if Mexico was such a great place you would still be in that backwards country. So don't throw stones at the US and send your people here for freebies, all it takes is one Japan and the entire country will be there speaking spanish and not Japanese.

They don't deserve to cut in front of the line and have shortcut to permanent stay in U.S. The U.S. goverment should take hard line and deport these people immediately. What their parents did was illegal and they broke the law. Now you are saying we should reward these people that continues to break the law. These illegal immigrants are part of the rising health care problem and the hospitals should stop refusing to serve these people that are illegal.

Settling around US auto manufacturing belt? Where? The only auto manufacturing plant on these three states is in San Antonio Texas with Toyota Plant. If you didn't know, the auto manufacturing belt is in Midwest area, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Tennessee area.

Dog gone right they should. I called the immigration service phone center to check on the status of my wife's application and the automated answering system was giving priority to these people already. In the mean time my wife will have to wait and wait and wait . . .

Yes, I do. But many here are not ALL illegal immigrants. Many go through legal procedures to obtain a citizenship.

That is not entirely correct. In the early days of colonization of North America many Native Americans welcomed the settlers. Well maybe not MANY but some tribes did welcome the newcomers.
