The administration has been relentless in rewriting rules of asylum, saying the system is rife with abuse.

It is. In so many cases these people are just trying to escape poverty.

The rule at issue denies asylum to people who pass through another country on the way to the U.S.-Mexico border without first seeking protection in that country and being denied.

This makes sense, does it not? Matters not, the judge decides otherwise. Jeez,,,

saying evidence was lacking

That's a common theme by judges for Trump/GOP laws that get thrown out, from abortion to immigration to stricter voting standards.

Trump didn't get a law passed. He made an announcement/proclamation and thought that was enough because he didn't pay attention in 5th grade USgovt class. The US doesn't have a King who rules by proclamation.

Trump had 2 yrs to get new laws passed by Congress and failed. They wasted time on dumb fights and should have pushed 100 laws in 300 days. Had he Set the agenda and let the Congress take the lead on Laws, a bunch of things could have been addressed like removing the carrots from existing immigration laws, making crossing the border a felony crime with a real fine and repercussions for breaking that a reason to block future immigration. Mandatory worker validation checks across the country and a guest worker program for seasonal farm workers should have been done too. And fixes for the H-1b worker programs to end the 80% abuse rates while keeping the 20% good stuff.

Fortunately, Trump won't be re-elected and someone who actually knows how the US law-making process works will be President noon on January 20th.
